Hi Dubai12-05-2025

The second edition of the DXB500 Communication Training Programme concluded in Dubai on 8 May, equipping a new cohort of media professionals with advanced skills to elevate institutional communication across the emirate.
Launched by H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Media Council, and implemented by the Government of Dubai Media Office in collaboration with international partners, the initiative aims to strengthen communication capabilities across public sector entities.
Held over two intensive days, the programme featured practical workshops, expert-led sessions, and real-time simulations. Topics ranged from strategic storytelling and crisis communication to content creation for digital platforms. Highlights included sessions by industry leaders such as Manus Cranny of The National and Dr. Yasar Jarrar of the Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government.
Mona Al Marri, Vice Chairperson and Managing Director of the Dubai Media Council, said the programme reflects the leadership's commitment to developing specialised media talent that can shape narratives and project Dubai's global standing with professionalism and clarity.
The training focused on both theoretical foundations and hands-on experience, offering insights into media analysis, narrative building, and adapting messaging for fast-evolving digital trends. The initiative also emphasized the importance of transparency and audience engagement, especially during crises.
Each edition of DXB500 trains 50 communication leaders, with sessions held twice a year to ensure continuous professional development. By bridging local expertise with global best practices, the programme is fast becoming a cornerstone in Dubai's strategy to build a future-ready media ecosystem.

W Group unveils real-time programmatic DOOH platform

W Group Holding has launched a real-time, audience-targeting programmatic Digital Out-of-Home (pDOOH) platform. Touted as a global first, the AI-powered technology, AiOO, brings dynamic targeting to outdoor media by adapting ad delivery based on real-time audience traits and behaviour. AiOO is now being deployed across the UAE by Hypermedia, W Group's DOOH company that operates a large screen network. The technology is also being scaled globally through DXTA, the group's digital arm, giving agencies and advertisers access to new levels of precision across markets. Designed with a privacy-first approach, AiOO does not use facial recognition – instead using advanced audience analysis to detect real-time traits and movement behaviour and adjusts content based on relevance, while meeting international data protection standards. According to W Group, the platform is a step forward in how out-of-home campaigns are bought, measured and optimised, with the aim of helping brands connect with audiences more intelligently. The technology was officially unveiled during W Group's 25th anniversary event, held at the Theatre of Digital Art (TODA) in Dubai. The launch brought together industry leaders and representatives from government entities including Dubai Media Council, Mada Media, and the Department of Economy and Tourism. Habib Wehbi, Chairman and Group CEO of W Group Holding, said, 'Tonight, you witnessed a preview of our future: a real-time audience targeting breakthrough that redefines precision in Digital Out-of-Home. This innovation is more than a product – it's a strategic leap forward for W Group and the industry. Built to power intelligent, data-led media at scale, it marks the beginning of a new era in programmatic DOOH, starting here in Dubai and expanding globally. It reflects our belief in bold ideas, our confidence in local innovation, and our commitment to shaping what's next in media.' Following Wehbi's keynote, key industry and government leaders, from entities including the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism, Dubai Media Council and Mada Media, took the stage to share their perspectives on the unveiling of W Group technology. Mohammed Al Hammadi, CEO of Mada Media, said: 'We at Mada Media are delighted to be part of this groundbreaking moment as Dubai unveils the future of technology. Investments like these not only raise the industry standard but also inspire progress across the market.' Hesham AlOlama, Director of Strategy & Performance Management at Dubai Media Council, stated: '25 years in the making, W Group has been innovative, and it actually is a global leap for Dubai's creative economy. This is more than a project launch. It is a statement, a declaration that innovation is not just happening in Dubai, it is being led by Dubai.' The event also featured a panel featuring Ian Manning, Executive Director of IAB MENA, Tom Goddard, President of the World Out of Home Organization (WOO), Mickael Ferreira, VP and Global Chief Business Officer of Azerion, Hammad Benjelloun, CEO of AiOO, and Philip Matta, CEO of Hypermedia.

The National is searching for aspiring journalists for our graduate trainee programme

The National today launches its search for aspiring young journalists for our annual graduate training programme. We are looking for two talented recruits to join our global news operation for four months. These are paid positions for full-time work based in our newsroom on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. The selected candidates will train in all aspects of crafting stories, from written articles to multimedia productions. "The Middle East is the story on the global news agenda. We're looking for talented journalists who want to seize this opportunity to be at the forefront of telling that story," said Mina Al-Oraibi, Editor-in-Chief of The National. What we are searching for The two successful candidates will join us at a time of huge change in journalism and the global economy - both linked to the rise of artificial intelligence. The best candidates will be bustling with ideas of how to tell stories in new ways, and how to reach a smarter, more demanding local, regional and global audience. That may include everything from data visualisation and AI techniques for newsgathering to longer-form podcasts and video productions. To be eligible, you will have graduated from a university or postsecondary institution in the UAE in the past two years. You must be fluent in written and spoken English and be able to demonstrate strong writing skills when you are tested. You must be flexible when it comes to working hours and shifts. Trainees must be willing to go out and speak to people you don't know and take on assignments outside of your comfort zone. We're particularly keen to hear from Emirati graduates who want to document their fast-changing nation. How to apply To apply, you will need an up-to-date CV, a cover letter on why you should be chosen and a copy of your passport. We require three samples of written work. These can be published stories, for a student publication or website, school assignments, or a personal project you have taken on. And, most crucially, you will send three story ideas or project pitches that you could bring to fruition. These will include outlines of the angle, interviewee suggestions and a news hook. Why is this a story that we should be telling? Please be sure to include all of the above, as only complete applications will be reviewed. The deadline for applications is June 30. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by a panel of editors from July 14 to 18 and later complete a test assignment. Successful candidates will be notified by July 25. And the chosen two will start work on September 1.
