In months leading to the 2024 Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, Maharashtra's Tribal Development department had approved road works worth Rs 9,300 crore against the approved budget of merely Rs 2,830 crore. As per the data accessed by The Indian Express, the government has dues pending Rs 10,100 crore for the works undertaken in the past three years. The finance minister has directed to avoid taking up the new projects and focus on paying up the dues. Directions have also been given to review the works which were given administrative approval but could not be started for over a year. The Tribal Affairs department of the state government undertake road works in tribal areas (budget head 5054 5117). Since the year 2022-23 to 2024-25, works worth Rs 13,016 crore were approved against the approved budget of just Rs 3,230 crore. As per the data, in December 2023 (leading up to Lok Sabha 2024 polls) woks worth Rs 4,500 crore and in July 2024 (leading up to Assembly 2024 polls) works worth Rs 4,800 crore were approved, which amounts to a total of 70 per cent of the total works in the past three years. Prior to December 2023, the total amount of administrative approval for the year 2023-24 was Rs 2,900 crore only. As per the data, works worth Rs 700 crore were given administrative approval in the year 2022-23 against the budget of Rs 400 crore. On Tuesday, Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Ajit Pawar held a review of the financial situation of the department. 'The total pendency of the dues is around Rs 10,000 crore for last three years. The minister has directed us to ensure that dues are paid and there will be no new projects,' said an official who attended the meeting. Pawar has also asked to take the review of the pending road works for more than a year. 'There are works which did not start for more than a year despite administrative approval. Directions have been given that those works will be cancelled,' said the official. The associations of Maharashtra's contractors and engineers have been demanding their dues from the government since last year. In February they wrote a letter to state government's top leadership warning to stop all ongoing infrastructure works as payments worth Rs 89,000 crore from different departments have allegedly not been paid since July 2024. Despite stopping the works in phase-wise manner across the state, the contractors have yet not been paid. Jio Financial to raise ₹15,825 cr from promoters via warrant issue

In a major boost to Jio Financial Services Ltd (JFSL), the company's board on Wednesday approved a Rs 15,825 crore capital infusion from its promoter entities through a preferential issue of warrants. The funds will be raised through the issuance of 50 crore warrants priced at Rs 316.50 each, convertible into one equity share of face value Rs 10 at a premium of Rs 306.50, the company said in a stock exchange filing today. This will be one of the largest fund raises in the Indian financial services sector in recent times. As per a company statement, the warrants will be allotted to two promoter group entities — Sikka Ports & Terminals Ltd and Jamnagar Utilities & Power Pvt Ltd — subject to shareholder and regulatory approvals. Upon full conversion, the promoter group's combined stake will rise by 10.17 per cent. The Ambani family–owned promoter entities currently hold a 47 per cent stake in the company. Jio Financial Services shares closed flat at Rs 320 a share on Wednesday. Among the promoter entities, Sikka Ports & Terminals will increase its holding from 1.08 per cent to 4.65 per cent, while Jamnagar Utilities & Power will move from 2.02 per cent to 5.52 per cent after the conversion, the statement said. The warrants are convertible into fully paid-up shares within 18 months from the date of allotment. Unconverted warrants will lapse, and any amount paid on them will be forfeited, the statement added. A source said Jio Financial, which was demerged from Reliance Industries in July 2023, is actively scaling its presence in lending, insurance and asset management. The new round of funding from the promoters would be used mainly to enter the insurance sector. On July 19, Jio Financial Services entered a 50:50 reinsurance joint venture agreement with Munich-based Allianz Group through its wholly owned subsidiary, Allianz Europe BV. The company also signed a non-binding agreement with the Allianz Group to form additional joint ventures in India's life and general insurance sectors. Several financial services companies are raising funds from investors and promoters in recent months. Earlier this month, Adar Poonawalla's promoter entity approved a Rs 1,500 crore infusion into Poonawalla Fincorp, boosting its net worth to around Rs 9,700 crore and supporting its retail expansion strategy. Tata Capital, the unlisted financial services arm of Tata Sons, is also planning a $2 billion initial public offering before September to fund its growth in the fast-expanding Indian financial services market.

Months after Ratan Tata's death, Tata Motors seals biggest auto deal, buys Italian company for Rs 391200286500, company is... Tata motors is all set to buy famous Italian truck making company Iveco from the Agnelli family. This will be the biggest deal of Tata motors as the giant is set to acquire the company for about $4.5 billion dollars, or 3.9 billion euros. The last significant acquisition by the company was in 2008, when it bought Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) for $2.3 billion dollars. This acquisition would become the Tata group's second largest after Corus and the largest for its automotive division. When will be the official announcement? It is revealed that both Tata Motors and Iveco have scheduled board meetings on Wednesday in order to approve the deal. Iveco has also confirmed on Tuesday, that the company had engaged in 'ongoing, advanced' deals with various parties regarding two deals: once that would concern its defence operations and the other that for the remainder of the organisation. Why Iveco is a bet for Tata motors? According to sources, Tata motors plans to acquire 27.1% ownership from the Agnelli family's investment firm Exor, which currently holds 43.1% voting rights. Which will lead them to initiate a tender offer so they can acquire shares from small stakeholders. The deal does not include the defence division with Tata motors. This comes after Iveco announced in May about its plans to either separate or divest the company's defence operation by the end of this year, and that they already received purchase proposals as well. Hike in stakes? Iveco's shares saw a significant increase of up to 7.4% during trading hours, rising its market value to $6.15 billion dollars, a twofold increase in the current year. Both the company's boards, along with Exor, are extremely supportive of the potential transaction, given the longstanding alliance between the Agnelli family and the former chairman of the group, Ratan Tata. This comes after a past joint venture between Agnelli-owned Fiat motors and Tata in India. The Agnelli family maintains significant investments in Ferrari, the dutch automotive conglomerate that encompasses the Fiat brand. The transaction involves Morgan Stanley from Tata's side and Goldman Sachs from Agnelli's, with Clifford Chance providing legal counsel. 'Discussions have been ongoing for the last one and a half months and have intensified in recent weeks,' said one of the sources. 'Both sides entered into an exclusivity agreement for bilateral negotiations. The exclusivity is due to lapse on August 1.' This acquisition would be structured through a Dutch subsidiary, wholly owned by Tata motors. This acquisition presents opportunities for Tata motors, and helps them in expanding their commercial vehicle operations with access to advanced technology and expanded market presence. Iveco, generates most of its revenue from Europe (around 74%), and maintains operations across North and Latin America
