Newcastle turn to Brentford forward after cooling Ekitike interest
Eddie Howe's side had an offer of €75m (£64m) turned down for Eintracht Frankfurt forward Ekitike earlier this month. The Magpies have not submitted an improved bid for the Frenchman.
Liverpool are now pushing to sign Ekitike and are advancing in negotiations with the Bundesliga side. The interest from the Premier League champions has led Newcastle to consider alternatives, with Wissa now on their radar.
The Athletic are reporting that no contact has yet been made with Brentford but Wissa is a player of interest. Newcastle are determined to bring in another forward to support Alexander Isak, following Callum Wilson's exit from St James' Park.
Wissa scored 19 goals in the Premier League last season, as many non-penalty goals as both Isak and Erling Haaland. Only Mohamed Salah (20) managed more in the division. He thrived amid a more regular role in West London, following the sale of Ivan Toney to the Saudi Pro League.
Tottenham Hotspur have also expressed interest in Wissa, with Brentford battling to hold onto their leading assets. Thomas Frank has already left to take charge of Spurs, while captain Christian Norgaard has joined Arsenal.
Elsewhere, Manchester United remain in talks to sign Bryan Mbeumo and Brentford are reluctant to lose both the Cameroonian and Wissa in the same transfer window.
The latter has 12 months to run on his current contract, though Brentford have the option to extend for a further season. Brentford value the 28-year-old at around £40m.

Victor Osimhen / Credit photo : @GalatasaraySK Victor Osimhen makes his return to Galatasaray SK on the evening of Wednesday, July 30, 2025. The Nigerian forward leaves Napoli for good, signing a new contract with the Istanbul club after several long weeks of negotiations. Through images shared on social media, Galatasaray SK has officially confirmed Victor Osimhen's comeback. Loaned from Napoli during the 2024-2025 season, the Nigerian international striker convinced the Istanbul management to secure him on a permanent basis. Despite fierce competition from several European giants and Saudi Arabian clubs willing to break the bank for the 2023 African Ballon d'Or winner, Galatasaray and its fans managed to persuade the 26-year-old star to stay. The successful negotiations with SSC Napoli resulted in a deal estimated at €75 million, including €5 million in performance-related bonuses. An initial payment of €40 million is set to be made this summer, followed by a second installment of €35 million scheduled by 2026. According to sources, Napoli also included a clause prohibiting Galatasaray from selling Victor Osimhen to an Italian club before 2027, under penalty of a financial sanction. The Nigerian star will sign a three-year contract, with an optional additional season, and will reportedly earn an annual salary of €15 million excluding bonuses.

Viktor Gyokeres could make Arsenal debut against Tottenham in Hong Kong
Viktor Gyokeres could make his Arsenal debut in Thursday's pre-season friendly against north London rivals Tottenham in Hong Kong. The 27-year-old Sweden striker completed his £55million transfer from Sporting Lisbon on Saturday. Gyokeres, who was presented to fans ahead of the Gunners' 3-2 win over Newcastle in Singapore on Sunday, has only had limited training time with his new club. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta told a pre-match press conference: 'He's only done today's session, yesterday very little. We're going to assess tonight how he is. 'If the medical staff are happy as well with his condition to participate in tomorrow's match, it's a possibility. We're going to discuss that tonight.' Gyokeres fired Sporting to back-to-back Portuguese titles, scoring 68 goals in 66 league appearances. The former Brighton and Coventry player netted 97 times in 102 outings in all competitions during his two seasons in Lisbon, including registering a Champions League hat-trick against Manchester City last term. Gunners captain Martin Odegaard said: 'I think you've all seen what he's done in his career so far. Especially the last season at Sporting, the numbers speak for themselves. 'He's physical, strong, fast, good finisher, and intelligent as well. I think he's a very complete striker. 'You can also see the hunger, the energy he brings. I'm really excited to have him with the team. He's only trained a few times, but you can already see the quality, the energy, and the willingness. I'm excited to have a pitch with him.'
