Was Zbigniew Brzezinski a Cold War prophet?
Polish émigré Zbigniew Brzezinski – known as 'Zbig' – rose to prominence in America during the Cold War as a key intellectual architect of US foreign policy. He was National Security Advisor to President Carter and was a trusted advisor to many US presidents from John F Kennedy onwards. Yet, despite helping to shape American foreign policy during critical moments, he is not as well-known or celebrated as his lifelong rival Henry Kissinger.
The Financial Times' chief US columnist Edward Luce joins Freddy Gray on this episode of Americano to talk about his new book Zbig: The Life of Zbigniew Brzezinski, America's Cold War Prophet. The book aims to bridge the gap in the historiography of the Cold War and looks at Zbig's legacy – from preventing a Soviet invasion of Poland, to strengthening relations with China, to shaping America's response to 9/11. Trump vowed to resolve the conflict 'in 24 hours' upon taking office but more than three years on from Russia president Vladimir Putin launching a full scale invasion of Ukraine, no end appears in sight. Usyk, the former undisputed world champion at cruiserweight and heavyweight, painted a bleak picture of what life is like in Ukraine and believes Trump needs to have a clearer comprehension of the situation. 'I advise American president Donald Trump to go to Ukraine and live in my house for one week, only one week,' Usyk, the WBC, WBA and WBO heavyweight champion, told the BBC. 'Watch what is going on. Every night there are bombs, rockets flying above my house. 'People who don't live in Ukraine, who don't support Ukraine, who haven't watched what's going on, don't understand what's going on.' Usyk, who has won all 23 of his professional contests, is currently in a training camp to prepare for a rematch with IBF champion Daniel Dubois on July 19 at Wembley Stadium. 'I worry about what happens in my country,' 38-year-old Usyk added. 'It's very bad because Ukrainian people have died. It's not just military people – children, women, grandmothers and grandfathers, too.'

Elon Musk should relocate his American business interests in Scotland after his public falling out with US President Donald Trump, an MSP has suggested. The pair have clashed in recent days over a bill which the tech mogul says will increase the US budget deficit - he has since become one of Mr Trump's fiercest critics. Due to Mr Trump's family and business ties to Scotland, Ms Regan believes such a move by Mr Musk could 'prompt a bidding war between the president of the United States and one of the world's richest men as to who can invest more in Scotland'. He U-turned on this statement within hours, as SpaceX is the only US company capable of transporting crews to and from this space station using its four-person Dragon capsules. Cargo versions of this capsule are also used to ferry food and other supplies to the orbiting lab. 'Glasgow is already known as the satellite manufacturing capital of Europe, and we are on the verge of becoming a global player in the industry. Scotland is currently developing multiple spaceports, including the Sutherland Spaceport in the Highlands and the SaxaVord Spaceport in Shetland - Ms Regan says both these sites are ready for Mr Musk to relocate his SpaceX operations to. The Alba MSP said other suitable sites include the proposed Spaceport 1 in the Outer Hebrides, the Macrihanish Spaceport Cluster and Prestwick Spaceport. 'By creating innovative investment opportunities, we can then capitalise on Scotland's USP, ensuring we invest this bounty to benefit Scotland's businesses and communities.
