Consequences of moment of violence are ‘eternal', boy's mother tells killers
Aspiring rapper Kelyan Bokassa was stabbed around 27 times in the attack that lasted around 14 seconds as he travelled on a route 472 bus in Woolwich, south-east London, on January 7.
Two youths, aged 16, appeared at the Old Bailey to be sentenced on Friday after they pleaded guilty to Kelyan's murder and having a knife.
In a victim impact statement, Kelyan's mother Marie Bokassa said: 'I stand here not just as a mother but as a broken soul whose life changed forever the day my child's life was taken from me by another child.'
Speaking through tears and wearing black, she added: 'At least my son is at peace, and those two kids are going to have a really tough time.
'I ask myself what has happened to those two boys that has resulted in that terrible act of violence and I cannot imagine how can they be so angry.
'What they did was horrific and I do not know what has led them to do this and maybe I will never.'
'That moment of violence may have lasted seconds but its consequences are eternal,' Ms Bokassa said.
She told the court her son had loved food, cooking and football and brought her flowers on her birthday.
'He would put music on and we'd dance together in the living room,' she said.
'He loved Mr Bean, which we watched together, and he would laugh. I miss his laugh, miss his voice.
'I will never see his children or be a grandmother and he will never have his own family.'
Ms Bokassa added that she had spent her son's 15th birthday at his graveside and that she missed everything about him.
She said that some people in her neighbourhood cannot look at her and she is petrified to take public transport, particularly the 472 bus.
'I feel judged,' Ms Bokassa added.
'Maybe I will never recover, all I know is I will live and I will have to be strong for my son and I will have to constantly find a coping mechanism,' she continued.
'He would want me to try and solve youth crime and not give up on my life.
'My son loved me and would want me to go on with my life.
'These two young boys took my son's life without hesitation, they will now have to face the consequences of their actions here today.
'My only hope is they get the help they need before they ever get released into society.'
In a statement Kelyan's father, Hashim Mohamed, said his son's death had prompted him and his wife to consider 'youth violence' and to 'think politically' about knife crime.
'I never expected Kelyan's life to end tragically, to the contrary I believed he would one day thrive as an elite athlete or even as a creative,' he wrote in a statement read out on his behalf by prosecutor Deanna Heer KC.
The hearing was attended by around 20 members of the public, who filled the public gallery, all of whom wore black while some hid their faces and sobbed loudly as CCTV footage of the attack was shown to the court.
Kelyan's mother left the hearing briefly while the video of her son's murder was played.

'IT HAS BROKEN ME' In an impact statement, Ms Walsh said she was forced to take off 14 months and the altercation "changed my life enormously". "I can't quite believe that one passenger has had this much of an impact on my, my job, my career and my life," she said. "I am a strong brave, happy stewardess, and loved my job. I am well known within the company. "But I had to take 14 months off work. "I have been flying with Virgin Atlantic for 37 years. I was working when all flights were grounded on 9/11, and I've even flown into a warzone. But this incident has broken me. "But I don't feel strong enough anymore. I was abused for eight hours and 15 mins. It has broken me. It was a very personal attack. "I was doing everything in my power to protect passengers and the crew from him. I felt exposed and vulnerable, especially as we were 39,000 feet in the air. There was nowhere for me to go. "There was one moment where I felt I could not cope. I went into the cockpit and had a meltdown. I said to the captain I don't know what to do. "Even the threat of diverting the plane to Turkey or Baku, Azerbaijan, had no effect. "I was traumatised by the threat of being gang raped. "Never in my entire career flying for 37 years have I not been sure what to do. "I have had the best career in the world for 37 years. Mr Walker-Nolan added: "Although there were over 100 incidents over the course of eight hours, the most serious, including threats to kill, were limited. "The defendant has buried his head in the sand for a long period, and expressed regret. "He has a long standing drug and alcohol problem which he has not addressed for many years. "He is a successful businessman who employs a lot of people." THUG JAILED Iftikhar has six previous convictions arising from 15 offences, including common assault in 2004 and drink driving in 2008 and failing to stop and possession of cannabis in 2021. Judge Ms Recorder Annabel Darlow KC said: "Your threats to kill were made in the presence of children, specifically your three young children. "These were threats made with significant violence. "Your children had to be comforted by cabin crew staff while you made those threats. "Ms Walsh has given up a job which she has loved for 14 months, but thankfully has now returned to work. "This was a sustained incident which involved repeated racist abuse to Ms Walsh. "You have a lengthy and appalling record of misconduct. You have not addressed the underlying cause of this for many years, that is your drug and alcohol problem. "Given your lifestyle and your ability to earn money, your harm and risk has not moved. "This was an appalling incident which has caused long lasting and devastating consequences." Iftikhar cried in the dock as he was jailed for 15 months. His LinkedIn profile stated that he was the director and founder of recruitment firm Staffing Match. Virgin Atlantic was contacted for comment.

He said: 'I spoke to him at the weekend, and he was talking about it then. I just can't believe it I've had to go to the doctors for tablets today because I am so devastated.' Clive said he had been angered by online comments suggesting Lee may have taken his own life. He said: 'It's disgusting, he did not commit suicide. He had everything to live for. It was nothing to do with drugs, or being drunk either. 'He has never taken drugs in his life and he may have had a beer, who doesn't at a concert, but he certainly was not drunk. 'It was just a pure accident, a horrible accident.' He said the family were now rallying around Lee's partner and children saying: 'We are just doing what we can.
