Why Latest $10 Million Trade Rumors Make Perfect Sense For Red Sox
The Boston Red Sox have been on quite a roller-coaster ride this year. They came into the year looking like World Series contenders. Following a few injuries and the shocking trade of Rafael Devers, the Red Sox struggled. But they've since gotten hot and won a lot of games.
It seems like they're on the fence about buying and selling at the trade deadline. There's a chance the Red Sox can buy and sell at the same time this season.
Brian Burrows of Bo Sox Injection recently suggested the Red Sox could trade star closer Aroldis Chapman if they opt to sell ahead of the trade deadline.
BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS - JULY 10: Aroldis Chapman #44 of the Boston Red Sox high fives teammates after a 4-3 win against the Tampa Bay Raysc at Fenway Park on July 10, 2025 in Boston, Massachusetts.
BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS - JULY 10: Aroldis Chapman #44 of the Boston Red Sox high fives teammates after a 4-3 win against the Tampa Bay Raysc at Fenway Park on July 10, 2025 in Boston, Massachusetts."The Cuban flame-thrower (Aroldis Chapman) is having one of the best seasons of his career at age 37. He signed a one-year, $10.75 million contract in the offseason, making him one of the best rentals on the market," Burrows wrote. "Back in 2016, the Yankees traded Chapman at the deadline to the Cubs for four players, including Gleyber Torres (the Cubs' top prospect headed into the season). He's much older now, but could still net at least one high-quality prospect if he's moved."
Trading Chapman seems like the kind of move the Red Sox should make, regardless of which way they lean at the deadline. Obviously, if the Red Sox are selling, they will look to trade Chapman. But if they're buying, they could still look to deal away the star closer.
It's unlikely the team will re-sign him in free agency at the end of the year. While Chapman makes the team better, he would likely be more valuable to the future of the team as a trade chip. Boston could potentially net one or two potential star prospects in a deal that ships Chapman out of town.

Astros Predicted To Make Shocking Decision With Generational Top Prospect
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. The Houston Astros have quietly placed themselves at the top of the league this year despite not getting the expected production from Yordan Alvarez and Christian Walker. In the coming weeks, the Astros will be forced to make some big decisions. One of their biggest decisions is what to do with top prospect Brice Matthews when Jeremy Peña returns from injury. FanSided's Zachary Rotman recently predicted the Astros would demote Matthews in the coming weeks when a few big names on their roster return from injury. HOUSTON, TEXAS - JULY 12: Brice Matthews #28 of the Houston Astros jogs to the dugout after the third inning against the Texas Rangers at Daikin Park on July 12, 2025 in Houston, Texas. HOUSTON, TEXAS - JULY 12: Brice Matthews #28 of the Houston Astros jogs to the dugout after the third inning against the Texas Rangers at Daikin Park on July 12, 2025 in Houston, Texas."He's with the big-league team because of injuries to a slew of middle infielders, mainly Jeremy Pena, but Pena is expected to return from the IL shortly after the All-Star break if not immediately so," Rotman wrote. "When Pena returns, there's a good chance the Astros will use Mauricio Dubon regularly at second base, forcing Matthews to the bench. "Rather than letting their top prospect sit on the bench, the Astros would simply be better off demoting him back to Triple-A, giving him more time to develop. He's only 23 years old, after all. Matthews might be a cornerstone for the Astros sometime soon, but he probably shouldn't be in the everyday lineup for a team attempting to win the World Series." The expectations were high on Matthews coming up to the big leagues, but he's struggled in his limited time. This small sample size isn't indicative of his potential, but it could show that he's not ready for the big leagues yet. Matthews was only called up to Houston because of injuries. When these players all return healthy, he's likely going to be sent down to continue developing. It's the best decision for the franchise and its top prospect. Red Sox Predicted to Reunite With Chris Sale After Trade Update
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. After stringing together 10 wins in a row just before the All-Star break, the Boston Red Sox might have shifted the entire narrative of their season. The front office publicly butted heads with franchise slugger Rafael Devers and then opted to trade him away to the San Francisco Giants, which seemed to save a white flag on their near-term future. But the team might be in a better position without Devers and could be looking to add some win-now pieces at the upcoming trade deadline. If that's the case, it seems pretty likely the Red Sox will target reinforcement for the rotation. Outside of Garrett Crochet, the starting staff has struggled and would need another legitimate frontline option to advance in the playoffs. With that in mind, Talkin' Baseball's Jake Storiale predicted the team would reunite with veteran pitcher Chris Sale. TAMPA, FLORIDA - APRIL 13: Chris Sale #51 of the Atlanta Braves looks on prior to a game against the Tampa Bay Rays at George M. Steinbrenner Field on April 13, 2025 in Tampa, Florida.... (Photo by) More Aguilar/Getty "Chris Sale back to Boston," Storiale projected in a recent trade deadline segment for the channel. "He's got an option for next year, the Red Sox need high-leverage pitching. ... Chris Sale is going back to Boston." On paper, Storiale's projection has some merit. Sale would definitely fill the Red Sox's biggest need, as he's got a strong 2.52 ERA in 15 starts so far this season and should return from the injured list in August. And the team has familiarity with him, as he pitched for the Red Sox for six seasons. Plus, his contract situation could make him more than just a half-year rental for a team that acquires him. But any trade prediction involving Sale would ignore reports that the Braves have no intention of moving any player with controllability beyond this season. The latest trade update on Sale saw FanSided's Robert Murray report that Sale is off the trade block as the Braves look to keep its core intact. If that changes in the next few days, though, a reunion with the Red Sox could make sense. More MLB: Cubs Legend Responds to Health 'Fight' With Message to Fans

Where ESPN ranks Deion Sanders among all-time No. 5 NFL draft picks
Deion Sanders, one of the best athletes of his generation, was the fifth overall pick in the 1989 NFL draft, selected by the Atlanta Falcons. He went on to become one of the first two-way players in the NFL, winning two Super Bowls and a Defensive Player of the Year award. But where does the Pro Football Hall of Famer rank among all-time No. 5 draft picks? That is a tricky question considering all the talented players selected with that pick. ESPN's Ben Solak did the yeoman's work of going through every draft pick since the seven-round format began, attempting to select the best player drafted at each slot. Solak eventually concluded that Sanders was the best player ever selected at pick No. 5, a feat that, despite his immense talent, was no guarantee. After all, LaDainian Tomlinson, Junior Seau, Ja'Marr Chase, Jalen Ramsey, and Sean Taylor were all selected fifth overall. Here is what Solak had to say about Sanders: Sanders gets the nod for his unique place as a two-way player (not to mention his two rings -- one of which came in his Defensive Player of the Year season -- and his six first-team All-Pro appearances). Does he also get a bump for providing excellent return on a sixth-round draft pick in the MLB draft? Who's to say? It is a stacked draft position, and Tomlinson makes a case for the top spot, but in terms of athletic greatness, Sanders has to be on top, considering he not only played but starred in both a World Series and a Super Bowl. Sanders ranked up 512 tackles, 10 forced fumbles, 53 interceptions and an impressive 10 defensive touchdowns over his 14-year NFL career. Sanders now walks the Colorado sideline as head coach and has surrounded himself with other Hall of Famers from his playing days, one being Warren Sapp. Sapp makes this list as the best 11th pick in the NFL draft as the only Hall of Famer to come from that draft slot thus far. With both Sanders and Sapp coaching college football in Boulder now, Colorado is well-positioned to continue its upward trajectory that began when Sanders took over the program.
