(2/2) is taking so long is because it's like a big reinvention of the series, to the same level as RE4 & RE7. It's not going to play just like RE7/RE8 or the Remakes, it's trying new things & very ambitious. It will almost definitely be revealed this year, so just hold tight.

Dotemu's CEO on how it makes new games that feel retro

Dotemu is on a pretty good run. The video game studio and publisher has been around since 2007, and much of its history is largely working on remakes and remasters of older games. But it's also been involved with major hits in the form of sequels and new games that are in the spirit of older classics, including Streets of Rage 4 and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge. All of that work is culminating in what looks to be a promising 2025, with three new but classics-inspired games: Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound, a new side-scroller for the series; Marvel Cosmic Invasion, an arcade-y beat-'em-up; and Absolum, an original beat-'em-up with roguelike elements. 'We're open to everything,' CEO Cyrille Imbert tells The Verge. Despite his title, Imbert says his job involves acting like an executive producer to bring together concepts that answer specific needs for franchises. Before Shredder's Revenge 's 2022 release, for example, there hadn't been a good side-scrolling TMNT game for 'a while,' he says. (Turtles in Time, which helped inspire the game, came out in 1991.) 'We were convinced that there was a need for that.' There was: the game sold 1 million copies in its first week, developer Tribute Games said at the time. Dotemu takes on 'most of the risk' of a project based on an existing franchise, Imbert says, meaning that while the company needs to convince a franchise owner to get on board, Dotemu typically finances everything and is responsible for finding a studio to execute a concept. 'From A to Z, we are in control of the project, but we take the risk from A to Z as well,' explains Imbert. 'Sometimes the studio will also participate financially, but it's fairly rare, or it's usually a minority of the total spending.' With the new Ninja Gaiden game, for example, Imbert says he was familiar with the 3D iterations of the franchise on Xbox, and he also saw the success of recent action-platformers like The Messenger. So, he started conversations with Koei Tecmo, and then worked with The Game Kitchen, the developer of Blasphemous, on a pitch. 'That's the story, basically,' Imbert says. For Marvel Cosmic Invasion, Imbert says that following Streets of Rage 4, 'lots of people' had been asking for a new X-Men game that was like what you used to find in arcades. 'We knew there was a need and that people would really like it,' he says, especially if it got a similar treatment as Streets of Rage 4 or Shredder's Revenge. The idea was 'very obvious' to the Tribute Games team as well, so Dotemu and Tribute made a pitch to Marvel Games. Absolum, as a fully original game, is different from its other titles. From a pure business perspective, it's a way for Dotemu to diversify its lineup so that the company doesn't rely entirely on licensed games. Internally, the Dotemu team felt like they could do their own thing, and by making it inspired by classics, it would still fit in Dotemu's lineup, Imbert says. They also wanted to work with Guard Crush, which worked on Streets of Rage 4, on another beat-'em-up. It all adds up to what's going to be a busy year for the company. It has three games that show the different approaches it has to making these kinds of experiences, and all of them were chosen for a specific reason. 'That's how we're going to be proud of what we do.'

Hasbro's New Marvel Legends Figures Are the Bendiest Boys Around

Whether it's Mr. Fantastic or Shuma-Gorath (sorry, 'Gargantos'), Hasbro's newest Marvel reveals are all about that flexibility. Today Hasbro revealed a boatload of Marvel Legends figures, and they were united beyond the mere fact that they were action figures made by Hasbro, and were from Marvel properties. No, there was a standout theme among today's reveals: bendiness. It would be otherwise difficult to marry the two halves of Hasbro's reveals today—our first official look at action figures from The Fantastic Four: First Steps alongside a series of gaming-themed celebrations of Capcom's classic Marvel fighting games—but somehow the toymaker did it with a little help from Mr. Fantastic and… Shuma-Gorath. Hasbro Marvel Legends Gamerverse Gargantos Sorry, Gargantos. The legally distinct Shuma-Gorath, who looks a lot like Shuma-Gorath, and instead currently borrows its name from an incredibly obscure Namor the Sub-Mariner villainous octopus to avoid potential copyright issues. Either way, they've both got big long bendy limbs! Hasbro Marvel Legends Fantastic Four: First Steps Mr. Fantastic Thankfully, Reed also comes with a pair of normal arms that you can swap out if you don't want his wired, bendable stretchy limbs going all the time. But Gigantos is all bend, all the time, with multiple points of articulation across his six tendrils that make what is otherwise a giant green one-eyed tentacled eldritch abomination surprisingly expressive. Hasbro Marvel Legends Fantastic Four: First Steps Figures Of course though, non-bendy action figures were also on display. Rounding out the rest of the First Steps wave are, of course, the rest of the Fantastic Four, based on their MCU appearances: Sue, Johnny, and Ben all get figures, as does a fully flamed-on Human Torch. While there's no movie Galactus figure for them to battle against yet, the line is rounded out by his herald in the form of Shalla Bal, the Silver Surfer, who comes with not only her cosmic surfboard but a nifty little energy blast stand you can pose her surfing on. Hasbro Marvel Legends Gamerverse Figures The Gamerverse fighting game figures, beyond Gargantos, are all inspired by the early stages of Marvel's historic gaming collaboration with Capcom across a series of arcade fighting games, most notably Marvel Super Heroes, Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter, and the original Marvel vs. Capcom. Gargantos and a deluxe-sized Juggernaut, however, are the only standalone figures: the rest are available across a series of two packs, some of which will be exclusive in the U.S. to retailers like Walmart, Target. Here's the breakdown of who's facing off against who: Wolverine vs. Silver Samurai Psylocke vs. Thanos (Target exclusive) Captain America vs. Venom War Machine vs. Omega Red (Walmart exclusive) Hasbro's Fantastic Four: First Steps figures will hit Hasbro Pulse for pre-order tomorrow, May 30, ahead of a release this summer. The 'Gamerverse' two-packs will have staggered pre-order launches across Hasbro Pulse, Target, and Walmart across the month of June.

Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess is getting a new mode to coincide with the Switch 2 launch

Capcom just announced that Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess is getting a new mode to coincide with its launch-day release for the Switch 2, which is June 5 . It's called Otherworldly Ventures and introduces some roguelike mechanics to the action/strategy game. In other words, it's essentially an endless mode. You start off with limited abilities and choose from various upgrades when defeating waves of enemies. Lots of games do something like this, including titles like Vampire Survivors and Downwell . It will also introduce a scoring element, for those who want to ascend a leaderboard. To view this content, you'll need to update your privacy settings. Protagonist Soh won't have to rescue villagers and crystals will accumulate more quickly than in the standard game. Also, Yoshiro will make her own way to the gate, instead of having to be guided. The whole thing looks pretty fun. Despite launching alongside the Switch 2, Otherworldly Ventures will be available for every version of the game on June 5. This includes PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Windows and Steam. It's also free, which is always nice. To view this content, you'll need to update your privacy settings. We heaped praise on the game in our official review , calling it "perfectly balanced, lovingly crafted and metal as hell."
