Barcelona seeking La Liga match in Miami in December
The Spanish football federation (RFEF) approved a request from both clubs to move forward with planning the first overseas contest in the history of Spain's top flight.
The Villarreal-Barcelona game is scheduled for the weekend of Dec. 20, 2025. Both teams asked for the match to be moved from Villarreal's Estadio de La Ceramica to Miami's Hard Rock Stadium.
"After receiving and reviewing the paperwork received, and after the approval of the board, the RFEF will pass on the request to UEFA to begin the procedures for FIFA's prior authorisation of the game at Hard Rock Stadium, Miami, on December 20 2025, in accordance with FIFA's international game regulations and the applicable rules approved by the RFEF," the RFEF said in a statement Monday, per ESPN.
The other federations involved – U.S. Soccer Federation, Fifa, UEFA and Concacaf – would still need to sign off on the match.

Soccer-Champions Barcelona ease to opening win at Mallorca
BARCELONA (Reuters) -Barcelona cruised to a 3-0 win at nine-man Mallorca in their opening LaLiga game of the season on Saturday as England forward Marcus Rashford made his debut off the bench. Raphinha headed home after seven minutes and Ferran Torres doubled the lead in the 23rd minute to put the Spanish champions in command. Mallorca's Manu Morlanes was shown a second yellow card for a foul on Lamine Yamal and Vedat Muriqi was also sent off before halftime. Rashford, on loan from Manchester United, was sent on in the 69th minute for his debut, becoming the first Englishman to play a first-team game for Barcelona since former England striker Gary Lineker in 1989. The hosts made a dream start when Indonesian forward Ramadhan Sananta slid a defence-splitting pass for skipper Azwan Ali Rahman, who coolly slotted past goalkeeper Haziq Nadzli in the fifth minute. That early strike jolted Kuching into life, and they gradually took control of the contest. Their pressure finally paid off in the 42nd minute when Timor Leste winger Joao Pedro burst down the right and squared for Cameroonian striker Ronald Ngah, who tapped in the equaliser. Two minutes into the second half, Kuching went ahead through Nigerian defender James Okwuosa, who capitalised on a defensive lapse to score from close range.
