Caitlyn Jenner trapped in Israel, sends urgent message amid rising conflict

Reuters Caitlyn Jenner in Tel Aviv, Israel, June 11, 2025. REUTERS/Shir Torem Prominent American figures Caitlyn Jenner and CNN commentator Scott Jennings are currently in Israel during a period of heightened military tensions as Israel conducts strikes against Iran. Both, separately, are facing significant challenges in leaving the country due to the closure of Ben-Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv amid the escalating conflict. Jenner, who traveled to Israel as the guest of honor for the 2025 Tel Aviv Pride Parade, conveyed an urgent 12-word message to her daughter Kylie Jenner, reassuring her of her safety. In an interview on Israeli television, Jenner stated, "I communicated with my daughter Kylie, and she asked me to remain. I assured her, "Don't worry, I'll keep myself safe, and they'll take care of me." Jenner has been actively sharing her experiences and solidarity with Israel on social media. On June 12, she posted on X (formerly Twitter), "My heart is here, with the beautiful people, in @Israel,' accompanied by images depicting various scenes from Israel, including her visit to the Western Wall in Jerusalem. The official State of Israel account also highlighted Jenner's presence at the Wall, noting her participation in local events and media interviews. Her visit, initially planned to celebrate Tel Aviv's Pride Parade, was disrupted by the outbreak of hostilities. The parade, scheduled for June 13, was canceled due to concerns over potential retaliatory attacks from Iran following Israeli airstrikes targeting Iranian nuclear and military sites. Jenner expressed her heartfelt support for Israel in an Instagram post, stating, "My heart is with Israel now and forever. Evil shall not prevail!.' Scott Jennings, who was in Israel when the conflict escalated, reported being effectively trapped in the country due to the airport shutdown. From his hotel in Tiberius by the Sea of Galilee, Jennings described hearing missile attacks he attributed to Iranian retaliation. He shared a video on X showing what he believed were missile strikes and expressed strong support for Israel, emphasizing the existential nature of the conflict: "We are in a fight for Western civilization around the world. As I type this from Israel, it's abundantly clear they are in a fight for their very survival as a nation." The closure of Ben-Gurion Airport has left many travelers, including Jenner and Jennings, unable to depart Israel. The airport's official website posted a notice advising against traveling to the airport due to the cancellation of all flights amid the security situation.

Trea Turner's career gets even more decorated with surprising Emmy win for MLB documentary role

Trea Turner stuns fans by earning an Emmy for documentary work (AP Photos) Trea Turner has already checked off some of baseball's biggest accomplishments in his 11-year career—an NL batting title and a World Series championship among them. But now, the Philadelphia Phillies' shortstop finds himself associated with an entirely different kind of accolade—an Emmy Award . Trea Turner isn't just a baseball champ—now he's an Emmy winner too While Turner doesn't personally own the Emmy, he proudly hoisted it ahead of the Phillies' game against the Toronto Blue Jays in celebration of The Turnaround, a short sports documentary that captured his dramatic 2023 mid-season revival. The film, which documented how Philadelphia fans rallied around the struggling star, took home the Sports Emmy for Best Short Documentary in May. 'Trea Turner's an Emmy winner, absolutely,' said Kyle Thrash, the film's director. 'He definitely held it up like he owned it.' — AntSanPhilly (@AntSanPhilly) At the core of the documentary is Jon McCann—known by fans as "The Philly Captain"—whose mental health journey and emotional connection with Turner served as a powerful narrative thread. After batting practice, McCann shook Turner's hand and beamed, 'Cuz, we did it, huh?! Trea Turner, we share an Emmy together.' In August 2023, Turner's first season under an 11-year, $300 million contract had hit a rough patch. He was batting just .238, had only 11 home runs, and had been demoted to eighth in the lineup. The Phillies fan base, notorious for its tough love, decided to rally behind him instead. During a home series against the Kansas City Royals, they gave Turner repeated standing ovations—something rarely seen in Philly for underperforming stars. The support sparked something remarkable. Over that weekend series, Turner responded with a 4-for-12 performance that included two doubles, a home run, and five RBIs. His momentum carried through the rest of the season, helping lead the Phillies into the playoffs. To return the love, Turner later funded digital billboards across Philadelphia that simply read 'Thank You, Philly.' 'It's pretty incredible,' Thrash said. 'We get to bring a trophy back to the ballpark tonight and share it with so many people that were involved in the standing ovation.' The documentary was produced by Higher Ground, the media company founded by Barack and Michelle Obama, adding another layer of prestige to the project. During the Emmy ceremony, McCann recalled bracing for disappointment. 'During the ceremony, one of the award presenters said, 'When you go up against the Olympics, you lose.' So I kind of thought we already lost,' he said. 'We didn't. It was a great, great shock.' In a season filled with drama, resilience, and connection, Turner's story was no longer just about baseball. Thanks to the city that believed in him and a documentary that captured it all, his comeback earned more than redemption—it earned an Emmy. And the Emmy goes to ... Phillies star Trea Turner? Documentary on Turners ovation wins Emmy Award

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — And the Emmy goes to ... Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Trea Turner? Turner already won an NL batting title and a World Series championship ring in his 11-year MLB career. How about adding an Emmy Award to that trophy case? 'Trea Turner's an Emmy winner, absolutely,' sports documentary producer Kyle Thrash said. 'He definitely held it up like he owned it.' Turner may not actually have the award in hand to keep for good, but he got to hoist the real deal ahead of Friday's game against Toronto in a short celebration for the Emmy won for a best sports short documentary produced on the 2023 standing ovation credited with turning around his season. 'The Turnaround' won a sports Emmy in May and Thrash and Phillies fan Jon McCann — whose personal struggles with mental health and kinship with Turner were the heart of the film — attended the game to show off their new bling to Turner. 'Cuz, we did it, huh?! 'McCann said as he shook Turner's hand on the field after batting practice. 'Trea Turner, we share an Emmy together.' Turner read the inscription at the bottom of the Emmy and promised the fans he would wave to them in section 301 if he stole a base in Friday's game. 'We get to bring a trophy back to the ballpark tonight and share it with so many people that were involved in the standing ovation. It's pretty incredible,' Thrash said. Philly sports fans — often billed as some of the worst in sports — gave a slumping Turner standing ovations in at-bats throughout the weekend in an August 2023 series to show he had their full support. Turner was in the first season of an 11-year, $300 million deal with the Phillies but was batting just .238 with 11 home runs and 39 RBIs. He was even dropped to eighth in the batting order headed into that series against Kansas City. In three games over the weekend against the Royals, Turner went 4 for 12 with two doubles, a home run and five RBIs and he would eventually help lead the Phillies to the playoffs. Turner later helped pay for 'Thank You, Philly" digital billboards in the greater Philadelphia area. The documentary was produced by Higher Ground, the media company founded by former President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama MCann, also known as 'The Philly Captain," is a Philadelphia based YouTuber and was one of the fans — along with a Philly sports talk radio host — credited with rallying the fans to get behind Turner. 'During the ceremony, one of the award presenters said, 'wWen you go up against the Olympics, you lose.' So I kind of thought we already lost,' McCann said. 'We didn't. It was a great, great shock.'
