Better free agent target: Pete Alonso or Kyle Schwarber?
Yahoo Sports senior MLB analyst Jake Mintz is joined by Foolish Bailey to debate the free agency value of two NL East sluggers. View more Video Transcript I want to start with 3 versus 4 on this list, which is Pete Alonso versus Kyle Schwarber. I think this is a super interesting discussion. If you were doing a free agent ranking, who would you have ahead of the other? I think I'd probably go Schwarber. Schwarber, to me, is just a better complete hitter. Like the way he's hitting, even with his average now at like 250, 260-ish, he gets on base more than Pete generally, walks more than Pete. It just feels like he has a profile that is a little bit more replicable in terms of doing it over and over again in the long term. So I would lean a little bit towards Schwarber, um, who's been just, I mean, really consistently getting better and better every year over the last, you know, 3 years or so. So I went back and forth on this like 100 times, because I think there's legit arguments for both, right? Schwarber is 2 years older. And does not play a defensive position. However, he's left-handed. And I think the clubhouse element in general is overstated. I think he's one of the few players of baseball where it does have some sort of value, but I think that he has risen above Pete, like you said, in terms of offensive production this year. He's gonna hit like 60, he might hit 60 home runs. Certainly gonna hit 50 home runs. I believe he's currently at 40. Here's a separate question. Do you think he has a chance to win the MVP? I kind of don't. You know, we saw the glass ceiling be broken in terms of Shohei, but that was with a base stealing element as well, right, exactly. Um. But yeah, I mean, Shohei won it with a stolen base element in the 50/50. Yeah, no, I think we're in a situation right now where I, if it's, you know, him versus the field, I'm definitely taking the field. This gives me MVP for MVP 3 vibes. Close

2025 NFL Odds: Public Backing Aaron Rodgers, Steelers Over 8.5; To Make Playoffs
National Football League 2025 NFL Odds: Public Backing Aaron Rodgers, Steelers Over 8.5; To Make Playoffs Published Aug. 6, 2025 3:16 p.m. ET share facebook x reddit link Aaron Rodgers hasn't taken one snap as a Steeler yet, but that hasn't stopped bettors from backing him and Pittsburgh to make some noise during the season and into the playoffs. At BetMGM, the Steelers' 8.5 is the second-most-bet Over regular-season win total. They're behind the Seahawks, whose win total is 8.5 as well. Also at the book, bettors like the Black and Yellow to earn a postseason bid. In that market, Steelers +140 to make the playoffs is second in tickets and third in handle. Could bettors' faith in Pittsburgh be because Mike Tomlin has never had a losing season as head coach or because Rodgers — the four-time MVP — is under center? Let's take a glance at a few more Steelers odds at BetMGM as of Aug. 6. Can Aaron Rodgers help the Steelers eclipse their win total in 2025? Super Bowl +4000 (bet $10 to win $410 total) AFC Championship +2000 (bet $10 to win $210 total) AFC No. 1 Seed +2200 (bet $10 to win $230 total) AFC Super Bowl Winning Conference -115 (bet $10 to win $18.70 total) AFC North Division Winner +550 (bet $10 to win $65 total) AFC North Second Place +290 (bet $10 to win $39 total) Rodgers comes into his Steelers tenure after two years playing for the Jets. In his debut with New York, he tore his left Achilles tendon just four snaps into the first game of the season. Year 1 with Gang Green was over before it ever really began. In Year 2, he passed for 28 touchdowns and 3,897 yards, but the Jets missed the playoffs, finishing with a 5-12 record. Then, in February, the Jets announced they were moving on from the 10-time Pro Bowler, and in June, the Steelers announced they were signing him to a one-year deal. Will the Tomlin-Rodgers tandem spell success for the Steelers, ultimately helping bettors who've backed them to cash in? Well, according to FOX Sports NFL writer Henry McKenna, that answer is complicated. Geoff Schwartz on Rodgers-Steelers, Chiefs' AFC West title odds, Chargers, Caleb Williams ADVERTISEMENT "The Steelers have plenty of talent. Coach Mike Tomlin, Rodgers, DK Metcalf, T.J. Watt, Cameron Heyward, Darius Slay and Alex Highsmith could take this team to a championship. Technically," McKenna wrote. He continued: "Rodgers is a destabilizing force set to meet his match in Tomlin, one of the NFL's steadiest leaders. But chaos wins every time. Check out Murphy's Law. "It's possible to imagine Rodgers overwhelming Tomlin. And maybe everything falls apart in Pittsburgh, leading to a total cleaning of house. That's the wild thing about Rodgers. There might be no player with greater risk. And at his age, the rewards are less obvious." Want great stories delivered right to your inbox? HoopsHype: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander ranked as No. 1 point guard in NBA
It's August, which means it's the perfect time to forecast what the 2025-26 season could look like. The NBA has entered vacation with most offseason moves done. By now, we have a pretty good idea of what all 30 teams will look like when training camp kicks off in two months. To get ready for the 2025-26 season, HoopsHype ranked the 26 best point guards in the NBA. It's arguably the richest of the five position groups in the league. Considering how last season transpired with the Oklahoma City Thunder capturing their first championship, it's pretty easy to guess who sits at the top spot. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander came in at the No. 1 spot in the rankings. He's fresh off one of the greatest individual seasons ever. He won about every award imaginable, from MVP to NBA Finals MVP. He capped it off with a ring that cemented his spot among the league's best players. "Gilgeous-Alexander is pretty much unstoppable on offense, and with such a strong team around him, it wouldn't be surprising to see Oklahoma City repeat in 2025-26 with its star floor general leading the charge," HoopsHype wrote. "We also wouldn't be shocked to see the Top 2 players in this ranking be the Top 2 finishers in MVP voting next year." When you win an NBA championship, you get all the glory that comes with it. For Gilgeous-Alexander, a title was just the cherry on top of his rise to the NBA's best point guard. He's now entered all-time great conversations with an MVP award that was due after three consecutive 30-plus point campaigns. Considering the Thunder signed Gilgeous-Alexander to a supermax contract extension this summer, expect OKC to remain a title contender for the foreseeable future. We ranked the Top 26 point guards for 2025-26.(We placed Cade Cunningham ahead of Stephen Curry.)
