In light of previous incidents where five men have lost their lives during similar recruitment drives for home guards, foresters, and forest guards in different parts of the state, police said they had adopted all necessary precautions for the fitness test. "The recruitment venue was strategically chosen within a 400m radius of the district headquarters hospital to ensure immediate medical assistance. An ambulance equipped with an oxygen support system, paramedics, and a team of doctors were stationed at the site," Nath said. The running tests were scheduled between 6 am and 10 am under cloudy skies with normal humidity levels. "Adequate drinking water and staff support were available every 400m along the 1.6 km course. Prior to the test, candidates underwent physical screening by doctors and submitted self-declaration forms regarding their health status," the SP added. Sahadeb Mohanty, a retired police officer, emphasised the need for candidates to be transparent about their medical conditions. "Those with heart ailments, blood pressure issues, or other underlying health conditions should refrain from participating in rigorous fitness tests. Prior medical screening and proper medical support during such events are absolutely crucial," Mohanty said. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Graft allegations: Part-time administrator appointed
T'puram: The district cooperative department appointed a 'part-time administrator' on Friday at Nemom Service Cooperative Bank, which was marred by corruption allegations and various kinds of irregularities. The administrator was appointed for a period of six months after the inquiry conducted by the department found grave irregularities and siphoning off crores of rupees. Suji S, Pappanamcode unit inspector at the office of Thiruvananthapuram assistant registrar (general), was asked to take charge as the administrator on Monday, said an order issued by the department. The administrator was appointed after dissolving the current administrative panel, whose members were accused of corruption. The department followed the section 33 (1) of state cooperative rules to appoint the administrator. The administrator was also asked to conduct an election and form a new panel to govern the bank in six months. The order further states that the current panel members did not take any measures to resolve the crisis at the bank and were not willing to cooperate with the probe. The bank is in absolute administrative stagnation and a grave financial crisis. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Switch to UnionBank Rewards Card UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo By taking these into account, appointing an administrator became inevitable for further actions against the accused. "The accused were controlling the day-to-day activities of the bank despite being charged with cheating and corruption. The paid secretary at the bank was changed thrice by the panel. The amount collected from loan defaulters is paid to the depositors by flouting all norms with an intention to lessen the number of cases registered. The paid secretaries were changed when they raised their voice against it. Only administrator ruling can keep the system in place and we have been requesting it ever since the fraud came to light," said Mujeeb Rehman, a member of forum of depositors. Most of the depositors at the bank were retired govt officials, and the fraud came to light when the depositors stopped receiving interest. The bank did not allow the depositors to withdraw their deposits as well. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
