Nico Hidalgo, former Juventus and Cadiz midfielder, dies ages 32
Nico Hidalgo, a midfielder whose former clubs included Juventus and Cadiz, has died aged 32 after suffering lung cancer with bone metastasis.
Hidalgo had been diagnosed with the illness in 2021 and contracted bone metastasis — when cancer spreads from another part of the body to the bones.
An attacking right-sided midfielder, Hidalgo began his career at local club Motril in the province of Granada before joining Granada's B team in 2012.
He went on to join Juventus in 2014, but he did not make a senior appearance for the Italian club as he was loaned back to Granada and later Cadiz, whom he joined on a permanent basis in 2017.

Sinner takes two-set lead over Alcaraz in Roland-Garros final
Associated Press PARIS (AP) — Top-ranked Jannik Sinner is up two sets to none — 6-4, 7-6 (4) — against defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in the French Open final. After taking the opening set, Sinner carried his momentum into the second, securing an early break and holding serve to take a commanding 3–0 lead. The top-ranked Italian extended his advantage to 5–2, appearing firmly in control. However, a late surge from Alcaraz, sparked by a series of aggressive returns in the ninth game saw the defending champion break back, hold serve and level the set at 5–5. Alcaraz saved two set points in the tiebreaker before Sinner wrapped up the set with a forehand attack that his rival could not return. Sinner and Alcaraz share seven major titles, four for Alcaraz and three for Sinner, who is in the French Open final for the first time. Sinner has not dropped a set at Roland-Garros this year. Sinner is on a 20-match winning streak in Grand Slam tournaments, after winning the U.S. Open and the Australian Open. The 22-year-old Alcaraz owns a tour-leading 21-1 record on clay this year and has beaten the 23-year-old Sinner in their past four meetings. He leads him 7-4 overall. ___ AP tennis: in this topic

Fabulous Paolini-Errani: Italian women tennis players conquer Roland Garros
Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini conquered Roland Garros. The two Italian tennis players imposed themselves on the Serbian-Kazakhstan pair of Aleksandra Krunic and Anna Danilina at the end of a multi-faceted match: after an initial, 6-4 in favour of the Italians, the second set ended 2-6 in favour of the opponents. In the third set, however, there was no mistaking who was in charge. The Italian Olympians hit two consecutive breaks and always held serve, taking a 5-0 lead. The match therefore ended with a score of 6-1, which gave the crown to the Italian pair. It was the second consecutive title for Errani-Paolini after the one they had just won at the Internazionali in Rome. And it is a rematch on French soil, after last year's final defeat against Katerina Siniakova and Coco Gauff. The Italian tennis player's total haul thus rises to seven titles, including the Olympic gold medal (also in Paris) in 2024. Four in particular triumphed in WTA 1000 tournaments. Related Tennis: Jasmine Paolini and Sara Errani triumph at Internazionali d'Italia women's doubles Sara Errani reached 34 titles in doubles; Paolini eight. Together with Roberta Vinci, she had already won Roland Garros in 2012, the US Open in the same year, the Australian Open in 2013-2014 and Wimbledon in 2014. For the Bolognese tennis player, this year's is therefore the sixth Slam in doubles, while for Jasmine Paolini who also took home the mixed doubles title together with Andrea Vavassori, it is the first one.
