Tokyo-based online broadcaster brings DJs into fish shops and classic cafés
But all's far from lost for the capital's mom-and-pop shops, especially with a new generation of techno and house heads now spotlighting their community value. Yup, you read that right: Online music broadcaster Login.jp's new YouTube session series The Shoten has sparked buzz on social media by inviting up-and-coming local DJs to play sets in surroundings such as an antique furniture store in Shimokitazawa and an Akabane fish shop run by the same family for four generations.
The Login.jp crew came up with the idea of channelling the power of tight tunes to champion at-risk sites of urban culture after growing disillusioned with the lack of communication between the Japanese club scene and the wider community. They wanted to bring music and music fans closer to their neighbourhoods and vice versa, encouraging interaction and mutual understanding.
These efforts appear to have struck a chord: the first 'Shoten' video, in which Kanta Ando 's chill techno and house tunes soundtrack a morning's comings and goings at the Uoyou fish shop on Akabane's Suzuran-dori shopping street, has racked up over 12,000 views since February.
Even more popular is the clip from April featuring Kiyoko spinning deep techno at Yotsuya kissaten Coffee Lawn, a local staple that's been serving up a largely unchanged menu of coffee and snacks for seven decades. In the video, the DJ's beats add an intoxicating touch to the venue's timeless atmosphere.
Login.jp has been releasing new The Shoten videos at a steady pace over the past few months, with six episodes available at the time of writing. In the two newest clips they've taken their show on the road, setting up the decks in a traditional rice storehouse in the city of Takayama, Gifu.
With the Login.jp team hoping to release interviews and documentaries as well as organise live events in the future, we'll be sure to keep a close eye on The Shoten from here on – and very much look forward to stumbling into the middle of a DJ set at our local lunch spot or neighbourhood bathhouse one day.

Terry McAulay will be the rules analyst, with Rene Giraldo and Edgar Lopez handling the Spanish commentary. On the sidelines for the game will be YouTube creator Deestroying, combining with the website that helped make him famous in this venture into the NFL, as well as commentator Stacey Dales. Kay Adams and Cam Newton will be the lead analysts to make the trek to Brazil for pregame and postgame talk. Dales and Deestroying will also join the duo after the AFC West battle wraps up. The game will kick off on Sept. 5 at 8 pm with no subscription required. It will also be available on YouTube TV in the United States. Carr played for 11 seasons in the NFL, with his first nine coming with the Raiders before signing with the Saints.

The popular YouTubers included a special guest who proved very popular Sidemen's 'best guest ever' has been declared by fans and they are a YouTuber with millions of followers and Tourette's syndrome. The online group of content creators and influencers shared their most recent video in their regular Sunday slot and it included an immediate favourite amongst viewers. This week, the video dropped was a new edition of 20 vs 2, which included mostly women coming face to face with a couple of Sidemen. In a voiceover introducing the video, which ran for more than an hour and 20 minutes in total, KSI says: "Welcome to 20 vs 2. We have two Americans, Marlon and Lacy. They will both have to agree which of the 20 girls they would like to say yes and no to." If the duo both said yes to a girl, they would take part in the next section of the video. This would be in the form of an impromptu date. However, the girl chooses who of the two they would rather go on a date with. While this happens, six others watch on including Josh, Harry, Vik, KSI, Tobi, Ethan and Simon. Each of them have the opportunity to tell Marlon and Lacy what to do like mini challenges. Whether it be how they act or what they say. One person that was involved in both segments on the video and was popular with the Sidemen and viewers alike during her appearance was 35-year-old Anita. It turns out she is a major online personality in her own right, known as Sweet Anita. She has around 1.5 million subscribers on YouTube and claims to have more than 4 million followers across all her social channels. This includes Twitch, X, Instagram and Facebook. Anita herself commented on the video, thanking for the invitation to be involved in the Sidemen's video. In her post she said: "Lacy was such a good boy! Thanks for having me." It didn't go unnoticed by fans who were quick to reply themselves. It received the most interactions of any comment with more than 200 replies and 27,000 thousand likes. Many responded to tell Anita that they were their favourite guest. One person said: "You're iconic." A second simply stated: "Best 20v1 guest ever." Another added: "I love your vibe and energy, you're so unique." while a different account replied: "Anita , you made the vid, hilarious." Anita also has Tourette's. She has regularly shared clips and videos talking about her experiences of her condition and how it impacts her life on YouTube and on her social pages.
