But, Madiba said, it always seems impossible until it is done.
Now, SA Harvest is helping make the impossible possible for thousands of Grade 12 pupils.
It packed buckets of nutrition and love in Durban and Johannesburg for Mandela Day.
Those buckets will be distributed to pupils in underserved communities.

Helping Hands thanks Dannhauser school for recognising vital community work
Helping Hands — a community-based organisation dedicated to assisting the destitute, needy and vulnerable — has expressed heartfelt thanks to Dannhauser Primary School for recognising its work. Chairperson Farzanah Dookie told the Courier that the organisation strives to make a difference wherever possible. 'We do this through various initiatives. When people in our community face challenges, especially with basic needs like food and water, we step in to help wherever we can,' she explained. Helping Hands partners with local businesses to source food parcels, which are then repacked into smaller portions to reach more households. The group also receives a nutritious soup mix from 'Reach Out for Hunger', which is served to children on Sundays when no school feeding schemes are available. Dookie added that the organisation also appeals to churches and other groups for gently-used clothing, school shoes for children, and blankets for the elderly. 'We really appreciate it when people notice our work,' she said. 'It's not an easy task — we aren't funded by any organisation, so we do struggle at times. But with the support of caring people, we manage to help so many who are unemployed, especially given the high joblessness in our community.' She extended special thanks to the educators and staff of Dannhauser Primary School for their Mandela Day sponsorship. 'Your support means a lot to us, and we look forward to working with you again in future,' she added. Councillor calls for action against litter crisis in Midrand
Ward 132 councillor Annette Deppe calls for immediate action from municipalities to address the litter and waste management crisis that is plaguing both the ward and the wider region. 'The escalating issue of litter and waste in Ward 132, as well as across our city, has reached critical levels. 'Everywhere you drive in our ward, from provincial roads to suburban areas, and even around informal settlements in our region, there are mounds of litter accumulating, with seemingly no action being taken to address this growing concern.' 'The neglect is not just an eyesore; it's a public health concern affecting our community's well-being. 'Our countryside, once a symbol of natural beauty, is now marred by waste. This is unacceptable. I call on the authorities to strongly consider reintroducing fines for littering as a deterrent. Additionally, a dedicated task force should be established to monitor and manage waste effectively, as current enforcement is lacking.' Additionally, Deppe insists that e-hailing services, and other transport operators, must ensure their drivers uphold environmental standards, and refrain from littering in the streets and parking areas. 'As a novel approach, utilising prisoners serving sentences for petty crimes to assist in cleaning up our suburbs and countryside could be explored.' She added that this situation requires immediate attention and action. She encourages municipal officials, community leaders, and residents to work together to restore cleanliness to the environment. 'I remain committed to advocating for these changes and will continue to champion initiatives that protect and enhance our living spaces.' Dakota Beach crèche battles crime and decay
LINDOKUHLE Daycare Centre at the Dakota Beach informal settlement is facing immense hardships that include break-ins, deteriorating infrastructure, and fires that constantly raze the neighbouring buildings. Also read: Fire destroys shacks at Dakota Beach informal settlement One of the centre's teachers, Mollie Govender, showed the SUN what remains of it after thieves helped themselves to air-conditioner units. Rust has also eaten away at the shipping containers, which are used as learning areas. 'It's unsafe for us and the children. The roof caved in at the classroom, and whenever it rains, water drenches everything, including the food we cook for the children,' said Govender. Lindokuhle Daycare Centre was built using donated materials, but the donations have dried up. One of the few people who has continuously donated is Amanzimtoti resident, Dennii Dorning, who has often shared whatever she could with the centre. Her most recent acts of kindness were on Mandela Day when she bought each of the 35 children a tracksuit outfit, socks, and snacks. 'This daycare centre is close to my heart, and I care deeply about these precious babies and their teachers. We are looking for more people to donate and help make their lives a bit easier.
