Cristiano Ronaldo's son, Cristiano dos Santos, debuted for Portugal U-15 as they secured a 4-1 win over Japan in the Vlatko Markovic International Tournament.
All-time international top scorer Cristiano Ronaldo's son, Cristiano dos Santos, made his debut for the Portugal U-15 National Team as they defeated Japan 4-1 on Tuesday in the first match of the Vlatko Markovic International Tournament.
As for the game, the first few minutes were very competitive, with both teams looking to press their opponents high up. Clear-cut opportunities were scarce, although danger occasionally loomed at both goals.
However, the score was broken midway through the first half. With a great pass, Lourenço Fernandes found Rafael Cabral alone and he, one-on-one with the opposing goalkeeper, made no mistake and fired a shot to make it 1-0. We didn't have to wait long to see another change in the score. Rafael Cabral, in the 22nd minute, once again took on the role of protagonist of the play, and in a different move, he once again showed his skills as a striker. The number 18 received the ball in the penalty area, turned on his opponent and shot into the back of the Japanese goal. Another great goal from the Portuguese striker doubled the advantage in the match.
Until the end of the first half, Japan pushed up the lines and controlled the Portuguese team's quick attacks well. Even so, André Marques' goal was not threatened very often, nor with much danger, with the most notable move being a dangerous cross that almost deceived the Portuguese goalkeeper.
In the second half, Japan tried to target the Portuguese goal more often, but the Portuguese goalkeeper was getting the job done. However, it was the Portuguese team that scored. Rafael Cabral fell in the area, the referee awarded a penalty and the number 18 converted it, in a truly dream afternoon for the young Portuguese international, who thus completed the hat-trick.
With the score at 3-0, Japan accepted the defeat without ever stopping to look for the Portuguese goal. Portugal was already managing and promoting more debutants in the team, and one of these debutants would even score the fourth Portuguese goal. Henrique Amen, who came on in the 72nd minute, scored his first goal in the same minute as his debut, a true dream start for the young athlete. A shot that crowned an excellent quick transition by Joao Santos' team and gave the match the contours of a rout.
Until the end of the match, Japan, already in injury time, managed to reduce the deficit through Toa Fujisawa.
Vlatko Markovic made his international tournament debut, with moments of great brilliance and maturity from the youngest team in the National Teams, on a morning marked by many debuts.
The Quinas Team will play three more matches in this competition against Greece (May 14) and England (May 16). The fourth and final match will take place on May 18, with the opponent yet to be defined.

With shades of Man Utd, Urawa vow to bring the noise at Club World Cup
Their raucous fans are the self-styled bad boys of Japanese football and the team's red shirts, white shorts and black socks bear more than a passing resemblance to Manchester United. But while the fallen English giants won't be at the Club World Cup, Urawa Reds will and are set to be roared on in the United States by more than 5,000 followers. Japan's best-supported club face Inter Milan, River Plate and Monterrey in the opening round when the revamped competition starts on June 14. Urawa is a nondescript suburb about an hour north of Tokyo and the team have been known to draw crowds of over 50,000 to their Saitama Stadium home. Crowd trouble is extremely rare in Japan but Urawa were banned from last season's domestic cup after "ultra" supporters ripped down barriers and threatened opposition fans. In 2014 they were forced to play a game behind closed doors after fans displayed a racist banner. Supporters say they are misunderstood and are looking forward to hoisting their flags and belting out their songs in front of a global audience. "People who aren't really interested in football think that we're scary people, but I always tell them that's not true," Urawa fan Kakeru Inoue told AFP before a recent game. "I often bring workmates to games to show them what it's really like." Urawa began life as Mitsubishi's company team and their official name of Urawa Red Diamonds is a nod to the industrial behemoth's corporate logo. They were originally called Mitsubishi Urawa Football Club, or MUFC, another link to the Premier League side. Despite having been crowned Asian champions three times, Urawa have only won the domestic J. League once, in 2006 under German former player and 1990 World Cup winner Guido Buchwald. Urawa have appeared at the Club World Cup three times, most recently losing 3-0 to Manchester City in the semi-finals in 2023. Veteran goalkeeper Shusaku Nishikawa says they are proud to be the only Japanese team at the inaugural 32-team Club World Cup. "The competition will get a lot of attention from around the world and it has a big meaning for us," he said. "Who knows whether a Japanese team will play in it again because you need to become Asian champions to earn that right." Professional football only started in Japan in 1993 but it took root quickly in Urawa. The club signed overseas players including Buchwald and brought through homegrown internationals like Shinji Ono, Makoto Hasebe and current Japan goalkeeper Zion Suzuki. The club's achievements have at times been overshadowed by their fans, who hung a banner reading "Japanese only" over an entrance to the stands before a 2014 game. The incident earned Urawa the dubious distinction of becoming the first Japanese club to be ordered to play a game behind closed doors. One Urawa fan who has attended games since the J. League began said the club were "all about ultra culture". "That's something you can only get in Urawa," said the supporter, who gave his name only as Nakaji. "No other club can match us." Urawa are coached by Poland's Maciej Skorza, who is back for a second spell after leading the club to the Asian Champions League title in 2023. The Club World Cup is being played in the middle of the J. League season, which runs from February to December. Urawa have made a strong start to their domestic campaign and look poised to challenge for the title, having finished 13th last season. Norwegian defender Marius Hoibraten says the Club World Cup is "a motivation rather than a distraction". "Being able to meet the best teams from other countries is a nice experience for us, everyone is buzzing," said the 30-year-old, one of the few non-Japanese players in Urawa's squad. Spain tries to stay upbeat after shootout loss to Portugal in Nations League final
As Cristiano Ronaldo lifted the Nations League trophy and his Portugal teammates celebrated behind him, Spain's players watched in clear disappointment. There was no major letdown after the penalty shootout defeat in Sunday's final in Munich, though. There were no calls for a coaching change. There was no blaming of players who underperformed. The feeling was that Spain is still on the right track. Before leaving the field, coach Luis de la Fuente gathered his players and made sure they remained upbeat and ready to start focusing on next year's World Cup. 'It was time to remind them that we have to be proud of this team, of what we have been doing,' De la Fuente said. 'I reminded the players that I'm proud to have them in the team. Now we have to start focusing on the World Cup. I'm still counting on every one of them, on those who were here and those who couldn't come this time.' Spain is the European champion and as a nation has been enjoying one of its best runs in international soccer. The women's team is the World Cup and Nations League champion. La Roja also won the men's Olympic tournament in France last year, as well as the 2023 Nations League. 'You can't question what this team has been achieving,' De la Fuente said. 'It has been defining an era, a style, and it will continue to do so, not because of me, but because of the players that we have.' After beating France 5-4 in the Nations League semifinals last week, Spain lost the final 5-3 on penalties after a 2-2 draw following extra time. Striker Álvaro Morata was the only player to miss his spot kick. 'Morata is a champion and a reference for us,' De la Fuente said. 'I'm responsible for his missed kick because I'm the one who asked him to take the shot.' Martín Zubimendi (21 minutes) and Mikel Oyazarbal (45) twice gave Spain the lead but Portugal rallied with goals by Nuno Mendes in the 26th and Ronaldo in the 61st. 'We have to overcome this defeat as best we can and value the positive momentum we have had in recent years,' Zubimendi said. 'This time we let the title slip away because of details. We have to keep our feet on the ground. We have been used to winning. Since I joined the national team I've only experienced positive things.' De la Fuente took over from Luis Enrique following defeat to Morocco in the round of 16 at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. He recently had his contract renewed by the Spanish soccer federation until 2028 and the next Euros. He is leading a team with a bright future thanks to young stars such as 17-year-old Lamine Yamal, Nico Williams, Pedri, Gavi, Dean Huijsen and Pau Cubarsí. Spain's next match is in Bulgaria on Sept. 4 in the World Cup qualifiers.
