Cristiano Ronaldo's son named in Portugal squad for tournament
Cristiano Ronaldo's son has been called up to Portugal's Under-15 squad for the first time. Fourteen year-old Cristiano Ronaldo Jr – who is at Saudi Arabia side Al-Nassr where his father plays – has been included in a 22-strong group for the Vlatko Markovic International Tournament in Croatia. Advertisement The youth tournament will feature matches against teams from Japan, Greece and England from May 13 to 18. Ronaldo, 40, posted a picture of the Portugal Under-15s squad list on his Instagram story, with the message 'proud of you, son'. Cristiano Ronaldo Jr has also spent time in the youth set-up at Juventus and Manchester United, his father having played for both clubs before moving to the Saudi Pro League in December 2022. Last month Cristiano Ronaldo led the tributes to former Sporting Lisbon recruitment coach Aurelio Pereira, who scouted himself and other leading Portuguese players. Sporting announced Pereira had died at the age of 77 on April 7. Advertisement Pereira played for the club and later returned as coach following a spell at rivals Benfica. In 1988, Pereira created Sporting's recruitment and training department, which he headed up, going on to discover and help develop young talent such as Ronaldo, Luis Figo and Nani. Ronaldo joined Sporting at the age of 12 from Nacional and went on to sign for Manchester United in 2003 – winning the Premier League and Champions League before later successful moves to Real Madrid, Juventus and Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia. Advertisement 'One of the greatest symbols of world training has left us, but his legacy will live on forever,' Ronaldo wrote in a post on Instagram with a photograph of himself alongside Pereira and another of Pereira displaying Ronaldo's youth player ID card. 'I will never stop being grateful for everything he did for me and for so many other players. Until forever, Mr Aurelio, thank you for everything. Rest in peace.'

Cristiano Ronaldo Jr. scores match-winning brace in Portugal U15's final triumph against Croatia
Image Source: Getty Cristiano Ronaldo Jr. , only 14 years old, took strides out of his father's long shadow to create his own narrative. He scored an important brace (his 11th and 12th goals) in the final of the Vlatko Markovic International Tournament , helping Portugal U15s from behind to a 3–2 win against Croatia. Wearing the revered number 7 shirt, the 14-year-old not only excels, he amazes the world of football with an early performance far beyond his age and certainly beyond his wildest dreams, announcing himself in his first final wearing the national colors and doing so in unforgettable style. The goals, the celebration, and the spotlight Cristiano Jr. sent himself on his way midway through the first half, when he controlled a through ball, took a touch, and lashed a shot into the top corner. The strike, as clean and powerful as anything seen in the senior ranks, left Croatia's goalkeeper standing still, and his teammates swarming him in celebration. And then the 'Siuuu' — the leap he had seen his father make famous. Even a few Croatian players adopted the party, a sweet indication of the regard in which the Ronaldo name is held. But the magic wasn't over. With the score tied, 1-1, in the second half, Ronaldo Jr. displayed his instincts again, on this occasion with a fine run into the box and a perfectly timed header that put Portugal in the lead. Watch: Cristiano Jr Makes Portugal U-15 Debut, Makes Substitute Appearance Vs Japan
Published By : Amar Sunil Panicker Last Updated: Cristiano Ronaldo's son, Cristiano dos Santos, debuted for Portugal U-15 as they secured a 4-1 win over Japan in the Vlatko Markovic International Tournament. All-time international top scorer Cristiano Ronaldo's son, Cristiano dos Santos, made his debut for the Portugal U-15 National Team as they defeated Japan 4-1 on Tuesday in the first match of the Vlatko Markovic International Tournament. As for the game, the first few minutes were very competitive, with both teams looking to press their opponents high up. Clear-cut opportunities were scarce, although danger occasionally loomed at both goals. However, the score was broken midway through the first half. With a great pass, Lourenço Fernandes found Rafael Cabral alone and he, one-on-one with the opposing goalkeeper, made no mistake and fired a shot to make it 1-0. Portugal thus took the lead on the scoreboard, with the first clear opportunity they had (20′). — ???????????????????????????????? (@AsakyGRN) May 17, 2025 We didn't have to wait long to see another change in the score. Rafael Cabral, in the 22nd minute, once again took on the role of protagonist of the play, and in a different move, he once again showed his skills as a striker. The number 18 received the ball in the penalty area, turned on his opponent and shot into the back of the Japanese goal. Another great goal from the Portuguese striker doubled the advantage in the match. Until the end of the first half, Japan pushed up the lines and controlled the Portuguese team's quick attacks well. Even so, André Marques' goal was not threatened very often, nor with much danger, with the most notable move being a dangerous cross that almost deceived the Portuguese goalkeeper. In the second half, Japan tried to target the Portuguese goal more often, but the Portuguese goalkeeper was getting the job done. However, it was the Portuguese team that scored. Rafael Cabral fell in the area, the referee awarded a penalty and the number 18 converted it, in a truly dream afternoon for the young Portuguese international, who thus completed the hat-trick. With the score at 3-0, Japan accepted the defeat without ever stopping to look for the Portuguese goal. Portugal was already managing and promoting more debutants in the team, and one of these debutants would even score the fourth Portuguese goal. Henrique Amen, who came on in the 72nd minute, scored his first goal in the same minute as his debut, a true dream start for the young athlete. A shot that crowned an excellent quick transition by Joao Santos' team and gave the match the contours of a rout. Until the end of the match, Japan, already in injury time, managed to reduce the deficit through Toa Fujisawa. Vlatko Markovic made his international tournament debut, with moments of great brilliance and maturity from the youngest team in the National Teams, on a morning marked by many debuts. The Quinas Team will play three more matches in this competition against Greece (May 14) and England (May 16). The fourth and final match will take place on May 18, with the opponent yet to be defined. First Published: May 18, 2025, 18:29 IST
