BlackBerry phones running on Android could become a reality once again thanks to this Chinese company and its big plans.
Remember the popular BlackBerry Classic phone with the QWERTY keyboard and BB Messenger fad? Well, we could see this classic device make a comeback in a new avatar and running on Android. Reports this week claim a Chinese company could be making this move, and offer this phone with its own branding.
This Blackberry Classic 2.0 model will be manufactured and designed by Zinwa Technologies and the name of the new phone will be Zinwa Q25, as mentioned in a report by TechRadar.
So what will the Zinwa Q25 bring to the table beside the Classic design? The report says it will come with Android 13 version out of the box, and not 14 or 15 but the company assures you will get security updates and bug fixes regularly. It is likely to be powered by a MediaTek Helio chipset with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage.
The modern version of the Classic will get USB C for charging, NFC, and a single SIM slot with support for 4G LTE bands across the globe.
It could have a square-shaped body, with the simple styled keyboard and the LED notification light for messages and calls. The phone is likely to pack a 3,000mAh battery.
Zinwa also will have its own version of the BlackBerry cursor built into the Q25 which negates the use of a touch screen and let people navigate on the phone using the trackpad. You will get a single 50MP camera at the back and an 8MP selfie shooter.
The BlackBerry Android phase started with a lot of excitement but the company's ambitions and push fizzled out quickly.
There is hope that companies like Zinwa can give it a modern twist and bring the old BB memories back for the consumers.

China's BIG plan to conquer the Moon, to build lunar city, settlements by 2035, develops tech to transform moondust into...

Representational Image/AI-generated China Moon Mission: China's rapid technological advancement has dazzled the world over the last decade, and now the Asian giant has reportedly developed a technology that transforms moondust (regolith) into sturdy bricks which would be used in building houses on the moon, as Beijing plans to establish lunar settlements by 2035. What is China's 'moon bricks' technology? According to media reports, Chinese scientists have developed an advanced machine to build bricks from regolith on the surface of the moon. The machine collects moondust and superheats it a special chambers, where the high-temperatures fuse the dust particles together to form solid bricks that can be used to construct research bases and housing facilities on the moon. The technology is a major step towards establishing settlements in space as it nullifies the cost of transport construction material from Earth, as transportation for a single kilo could run into crores. How the technology works? As per experts, the machine makes bricks similar to how regular bricks are made back on Earth, by baking clay in a hot furnace. The machine heats moondust to a temperature of up to 1300 degrees Celsius by amplifying the available sunlight by 3000 times. The superheated furnace melts the dust and shapes it into durable space bricks. The machine was first tested with volcanic ash on Earth, but melting regolith is a challenging task as its composition varies in different spots on the lunar surface due to radiation exposure, temperature fluctuations and micrometeorites striking the moon. Where will the bricks be tested? China's Tianzhou-8 mission ferried a cache of regolith bricks to space where they will undergo rigorous testing for radiation and temperature effects for three years at the Tiangong Space Station. These tests are designed to determine their durability and efficacy for building installations on the moon. In 2020, China's Chang-e-5 mission brought back soil samples from the moon, and soon Chinese engineers designed a machine to create moondust bricks after studying the composition of regolith. The Chang-e-8 mission, which aims to lay the foundation of a Chinese research base on the moon, will carry the technology with it to the lunar surface in 2028. When China plans to build a lunar city? According to reports, China's Chang-E-7 mission will head to the moon in 2026 to search for water on the lunar south pole, while a manned mission is planned for 2030, and a permanent research base along with a lunar colony, is expected to be operational by 2035. Notably, China and Russia have teamed up to build a nuclear power plant on the Moon, which will power the proposed International Lunar Research Station (ILRS). The revolutionary project is expected to be completed by 2036.

AI Boom Seen Driving Next Decade of Emerging Markets Performance

(Bloomberg) -- Emerging-market funds are pivoting to capture the artificial intelligence craze, with some investors predicting that booming technology spending will drive returns for years to come. Encouraged by the success of Chinese AI developer DeepSeek and Asia's powerhouse semiconductor firms, asset managers like AllSpring Global Investments and GIB Asset Management are concentrating more of their portfolio in AI stocks. That's been a winning trade, with AI companies being the six biggest contributors to the rally in Bloomberg's EM stocks index this year. 'This trend could last for the next 10 to 20 years,' said Alison Shimada, head of total emerging markets equity at AllSpring, which oversees $611 billion. 'The impact on local populations within EM will be transformational.' While much of the AI investment frenzy has focused on a handful of Silicon Valley firms, EM companies that can harness the technology or supply crucial components are benefitting. AI servers, for example, have become the main growth driver for Taiwan's Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., which is known as Foxconn. The top contributors to Bloomberg's EM stock index this year are Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., Tencent Holdings Ltd., Alibaba Group Holding Ltd., Samsung Electronics Co., SK Hynix Inc. and Xiaomi Corporation, together accounting for 37% of the index's rally. Emerging-market stocks that are highly exposed to AI have even outperformed the so-called Magnificent Seven megacap tech firms so far this year, according to equities strategists at Citigroup Inc. 'You cannot invest in emerging markets without having a sanguine and optimistic view of what this AI story can evolve into from a corporate earnings perspective,' said Kunal Desai, London-based co-portfolio manager for global emerging markets equities at GIB Asset Management. Desai said that Taiwan and South Korea will be 'central drivers' of the EM market story over the next two to three years, with Malaysia, China, India, parts of Latin America and the Middle East seeing 'disproportionate gains' due to their exposure to AI data and applications. His fund has invested in AI stocks during recent market dips, predicting that a third of emerging market returns will come from AI-related stocks in the coming years. There are signs that the momentum will continue as AI adoption accelerates across segments including cloud computing and electrical vehicles. The average estimate of forward 12-month earnings for EM tech stocks has increased 15% since the start of the year, compared to 6% for EM stocks overall. 'The share of AI contribution from the performance standpoint will only grow from here,' said Xingchen Yu, an emerging markets strategist at UBS Global Wealth Management. 'The rise of AI and tech is creating a new layer of secular growth, especially in North Asia.' The AI revolution could help EM stocks overcome a key obstacle: earnings performance. Company results have lagged forecasts every quarter since early 2022, with MSCI EM Index companies collectively missing profit expectations by more than 12%, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. But firms in the AI-heavy information-technology sector have consistently met earnings projections since the fourth quarter of last year, boosting investor confidence. 'This sector has been expected to grow explosively and will continue to do so in the future,' said Young Jae Lee, senior investment manager at Pictet Asset Management Ltd. 'AI will continue to be a key sector within emerging markets.' --With assistance from Jorgelina do Rosario. More stories like this are available on
