Law & Order is going through yet another shakeup.
Ahead of its 25th season, the NBC drama is losing a lead detective as Mehcad Brooks, who plays Jalen Shaw, won't be returning. Deadline was the first to share the news, and reported that other cast members Reid Scott, Hugh Dancy, Tony Goldwyn, Maura Tierney and Odelya Halevi will be back when the show returns this fall. Of course, this kind of change is fairly familiar to the franchise, as cast members regularly come and go. But that doesn't mean it's not hard to say goodbye.

Brooks joined the series in Season 22 after the departure of Anthony Anderson, who was one of the few cast members from the show's original run to stick around for its revival. Shaw was partnered with Senior Detective Frank Cosgrove (Jeffry Donovan) until his departure at the end of Season 22, and Cosgrove was replaced with Detective Vincent Riley (Scott) in Season 23. Riley will now likely get a promotion and a new partner in Season 25.
While Dancy and Halevi have been part of the show since it was revived, Goldwyn and Tierney are both recent additions. Goldwyn replaced longtime Law & Order star Sam Waterston when he retired from playing DA Jack McCoy in Season 23, and Tierney replaced Camryn Manheim as the lieutenant in Season 24.

Season 24 ended on a cliffhanger that actually suggested it was ADA Maroun (Halevi) who might not return. The identity of her sister's killer was finally uncovered, but the suspect was only connected to that murder via inadmissible DNA evidence uncovered through a private database. It caused a rift and a huge debate among the cops and the prosecution team, and everyone had different arguments about how to approach a case where the most significant evidence is ironclad, but unusable.
Shaw and Riley were troubled by Brady (Tierney) and her decision to use the database, and Maroun struggled to see the case from a legal perspective. When the murderer turned up dead, Price (Dancy) was worried she had gone off the deep end. It doesn't seem likely that she'd kill a person, but at the very least, Maroun and Price were both deeply affected by the situation.
While Brooks may not be back on Law & Order, he'll be back on screen in a major way thanks to Mortal Kombat II. He played Jax in Mortal Kombat, the 2021 film adaptation of the video game, and he returns in the sequel, which is scheduled to release on Oct. 24, 2025. He is also recurring on Season 3 of the Sex and the City sequel series And Just Like That as Marion Odin.'Law & Order' Announces Shocking Cast Departure Ahead of Season 25 first appeared on Parade on Jul 19, 2025

Ichiro cracks jokes, shares wisdom and calls out lone voter in National Baseball Hall of Fame speech

All-Star right fielder and Seattle Mariners legend Ichiro Suzuki was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2025. But even as Ichiro was awarded the honor alongside CC Sabathia and Billy Wagner, it was his speech that stole the show. Ichiro, who typically gave interviews in his native Japanese throughout his career, opted to speak in English when addressing the crowd in Cooperstown. In his speech, the outfielder shared some wisdom, and dropped plenty of jokes. One of the best parts of Ichiro's speech was a reference to the lone Hall of Fame voter who kept him from being a unanimous selection. At the time, Ichiro joked that he wanted to invite that writer over to "have a drink together" and "a good chat." [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] On Sunday, Ichiro listed out some of his impressive statistics, saying that the achievements were "recognized by the writers." "Well, all but of one of you," he added, referencing the voter, whose identity is still unknown. "And by the way, the offer for that writer to have dinner at my home has now expired." During the speech Ichiro referred to himself as a "rookie" for third time in his career, noting his origins with the Orix Buffaloes in Japan and Mariners, with whom he made his MLB debut at age 27. The outfielder mentioned some of the Hall of Famers gathered on stage for the ceremony — 52 in total. "I am 51 years old, so easy on the hazing," he joked to those Hall of Famers. The humor continued, as Ichiro also got in a good dig at the Miami Marlins, who he played for from 2015-2017. "Honestly, when you guys called to offer me a contract for 2015, I had never heard of your team," Ichiro said, earning a hearty laugh from the crowd. Later, Ichiro got in a stellar, full-throttled impression of Mariners broadcast Rick Rizzs. But much of the outfielder's speech was very heartfelt. In between jokes, Ichiro thanked the Mariners for bringing him to the league, and thanked former pitcher Hideo Nomo, the first Japanese player to relocate to MLB, for his "courage" and for paving the way. Ichiro also offered some advice, speaking about his own mentality heading into the league, and learning to focus on your best self. "If you consistently do the little things, there's no limit to what you can achieve," Ichiro said. "Look at me. I'm 5'11, and 170 pounds. When I came to America, many people said I was too skinny to compete with bigger major leaguers. ... But I knew that if I stuck to my beliefs about preparation, I could overcome the doubts, even my own. "I have been asked, 'what is the best thing you can do for your team?' My answer is, taking responsibility for yourself," he added. "When you go home at night and wonder why you didn't get a hit, or you didn't make a catch, the honest answer is not because a great pitcher beat you, or the sun was in your eyes. It's because there was something you could have done better." Ichiro finished the speech by saying that he had not heard of Cooperstown until he visited for the first time in 2001, and began to understand the scope of the honor. "Being here today sure is like a fantastic dream," Ichiro said, in conclusion. Ichiro, Sabathia and Wagner will now be enshrined in Cooperstown, as well as Dick Allen and Dave Parker, who were voted in by the Classic Baseball Era committee.

Adam Sandler Pays Tribute To Late Co-Star With Subtle Easter Egg In ‘Happy Gilmore 2'

Adam Sandler paid tribute to his former on-screen son, the late Cameron Boyce, in his new movie 'Happy Gilmore 2' six years after Boyce died. After the comedy sequel released on Netflix Friday, eagle-eyed fans noticed that Boyce, who starred as Sandler's son in 'Grown Ups,' appeared on a TV in the background of one scene. The footage playing on the TV during the scene was seemingly from an episode of Disney Channel's 'Jessie,' which Boyce starred in from 2011 to 2015. Boyce died in his sleep at age 20 in 2019, according to a statement from his family. An autopsy later revealed that the young actor died as a result of an ongoing epileptic condition. Social media users on X, formerly Twitter, gushed over Sandler's touching easter egg dedicated to the late Disney star. Reps for Sandler and Netflix didn't immediately respond to HuffPost's requests for comment. Sandler also honored Boyce in the 2020 Netflix comedy 'Hubie Halloween.' Boyce was set to star in the film before he died. 'In loving memory of CAMERON BOYCE,' the on-screen tribute shown during the film's credits read alongside a photo of Boyce. 'Gone way too soon and one of the kindest, coolest, funniest, and most talented kids we knew. You live on forever in our hearts and are truly missed every day.' Following Boyce's death in 2019, Sandler reportedly remembered the young actor as 'the nicest, most talented, and most decent kid around' in a post on X. 'Loved that kid. Cared so much about his family. Cared so much about the world,' the director added. 'Thank you, Cameron, for all you gave to us. So much more was on the way. All our hearts are broken. Thinking of your amazing family and sending our deepest condolences.' Related...
