Usman ‘For Sure' Gets The Next Title Shot?!?!?
Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Welterweight champion Kamaru Usman completely dominated Joaquin Buckley, winning a unanimous decision in the main event of UFC Atlanta last night (Sat., June 14, 2025) from inside State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.

Before the fight, Usman suggested and planted a seed that a matchup with former Lightweight champion Islam Makhachev would be a 'blockbuster' event. Following his dominant performance, he's doubling down, arguing his win warrants a title shot.
'Let's be honest, I'm the biggest name in the division, and this is about entertainment- the UFC is an entertainment company,' Usman told reporters during the UFC Atlanta post-fight press conference (watch here). 'If you want to make the biggest fight, it's going to be [me] vs. the winner of JDM and Islam. If Islam pulls that one out, former pound-for-pound vs. current pound-for-pound, who doesn't pay for that?'
A reporter straight up asked him if his win over Buckley earned him an immediate title shot.
'Oh yeah, for sure,' Usman said. 'I mean, you don't feel like that? Who else?'

While 'The Nigerian Nightmare' makes a strong case, and the UFC often favors former champions for title shots, other welterweight contenders, like Shavkat Rakhmonov and Sean Brady, are equally deserving.
He was asked about a potential fight with Belal Muhammad because of their bad blood, and he didn't even acknowledge him, and seemed not to 'Remember the Name.'

Then, he installed himself as president and general manager — an unheard of move in the NFL — riling even more of the team's supporters. But none of his decisions in the early days of owning America's Team had prepared him for the extreme criticism from Cowboys Nation. 'I was Darth Vader,' Jones, 82, recalls in the new Netflix docuseries America's Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys. Jones told Arkansas state lawmakers at the time that he had received multiple death threats. 'They're serious about their football in the state of Texas, almost as much as we are in Arkansas,' he says in the doc. After Landry's firing, more than 100,000 people turned out for a parade through the streets of downtown Dallas to honor the Cowboys coach of 29 years. 'Jerry and the Jones family had broken into the museum and taken our most valuable possession,' former ABC affiliate WFAA-TV sportscaster Dale Hansen says in the doc, describing the affection fans had for the former coach. Yoel Romero gets date, opponent for BKFC debut
Yoel Romero has inked his bareknuckle boxing debut. The former UFC title challenger is set to make his first appearance for BKFC against Theo Doukas at BKFC 80 on Sept. 12 at Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood, Fla. The bout will be contested at heavyweight. The news of Romero's debut was announced by the promotion on Tuesday. Romero, 48, signed with BKFC in July. He was coming off two KO finishes competing in Mike Perry's Dirty Boxing Championship – which is a striking competition with small gloves but doesn't involve any grappling or groundwork. "The Soldier of God" is mainly known for his 10-year run in the UFC where he fought for the middleweight title multiple times and cemented himself as one of the world's best. After his UFC departure, Romero had a short stint with Bellator and PFL, going 3-2. Although now competing in bareknuckle boxing, Romero told MMA Junkie last month that he's still looking to continue his MMA career. Romero's opponent, Doukas, will also be making his BKFC debut. Doukas has competed four times in MMA, going 2-2. His two victories have come by way of stoppage. He last competed in MMA in April 2024 and was submitted in the second round. He's also 1-0 in boxing.
