Northern Ireland pair headed for top flight as Sunderland win promotion to Premier League

The Black Cats earned their place back in the promised land for the first time since 2017 as second half goals from Eliezer Mayenda and teenager Tommy Watson, who struck five minutes into added time, earned them the 2-1 win.
Ballard and Hume were immense in defence, both playing the full game, with Ballard producing an heroic block with the score tied 1-1 and Hume contributing with some crunching tackles as the Blades pressed.
The pair will now join fellow defender Conor Bradley in the Premier League, with Crystal Palace midfielder Justin Devenny making it four Northern Irishmen in the top flight, while there is still the possibility that Jonny Evans could land with a top flight club after his release from Manchester United and midfielder Jamie Donley is set to return to parent club Tottenham Hotspur after a season on loan at Leyton Orient.
With the win, not only do Sunderland return to the Premier League for the first time in eight years but they also bank an estimated £220million, the majority of which comes from the Premier League's new £6.7billion broadcast deal.
As well as that, Régis le Bris' side are also entitled to commercial fees, facility fees, and merit payments as a result of their promotion, while they are also guaranteed to at least receive parachute payments even if they are relegated back to the Championship next season, so their winnings could increase further if they survive an immediate return back to the second division.
Watson had only been on the pitch since the 73rd minute when he was given room just outside the box to advance on goal and send a beautifully-placed finish into the bottom corner, the 19-year-old sparking bedlam in the stands.
Sheffield United had looked set to seal themselves an immediate promotion following their relegation last season, Tyreece Campbell's goal midway through the first half handing Chris Wilder's side a lead they held until the final 15 minutes.
Mayenda then scored with a stunning drive to level for Le Bris' side before Watson produced a moment that will live long in Wearside folklore.

Since moving to Atalanta in 2022, the winger has gone from strength to strength - winning the Europa League and finishing 14th in the Ballon d'Or last year. Wright, 61, believes that Lookman would be well placed to improve Mikel Arteta's front line. On his Wrighty's House podcast, the former forward said: "I'm going to go with Ademola Lookman winning the African Player of the Year in respects of that man's journey. "You know, it's just… I can't help but look at his dark moment where it would have been dark for him. You know, especially all those loans going to another country. "And you know what? Mason Mount told to leave Manchester United and find new club in savage attack'

Mason Mount has endured two injury-ravaged seasons since joining Man Utd from Chelsea, with Old Trafford legend Paul Parker issuing a blunt message over his future at the club under Ruben Amorim Mason Mount has been branded a 'lost boy' and told to leave Manchester United to resurrect his career after two injury-ravaged seasons at Old Trafford. Mount has endured a nightmare time since his £55million move from Chelsea to United in 2023. Injuries have restricted him to just 13 Premier League starts for the Red Devils. The attacking midfielder, who starred for England at the 2022 World Cup, has lost his international place as a result and has seen his career stall since making the move to United. ‌ Against that backdrop, United legend Paul Parker believes it is time for Mount to move on, despite the 26-year-old having got back into the starting line-up towards the end of last season. ‌ "I've said it before, but I just can't ever see him having a key role at Manchester United,' said Parker. "He has no standout qualities and now we're really seeing why Chelsea were happy to let him go. 'He's played a bit because other players have been rested and yes, he's scored, but I haven't seen anything more from him. He's clearly one of those players who would benefit from finding a new club. "I think he needs to figure out who he is as a footballer. What is his identity? He has no identity. Nobody knows what he's actually good at and I don't even think he knows himself. 'He looks like a lost boy out there, so first and foremost he needs to find his identity. Otherwise, he won't succeed at a new club either.' Parker also claimed Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo would be a 'dream signing' for United, who have submitted a £55m bid for the Cameroon international. 'Mbeumo has been absolutely unbelievable,' said Parker, speaking to 'He's had a completely absurd season, and he has only improved since Ivan Toney left the club. What he's done for Brentford is incredible. ‌ 'He owes a lot to Thomas Frank. This is yet another example of why Frank is one of the best managers in the world, because he gets the best out of his players. He's outstanding. 'He would be a brilliant signing for United. A magical signing, because he would be a massive step up from the other players. He would be a dream signing. But does he actually want to leave Brentford? Honestly, I'm not sure. 'It's a fantastic club and if you take away things like money and status, Brentford might just be the best club to play for in the world." Keep Calvert-Lewin as 'squad player' on a 'reduced wage'

We asked for your questions for BBC Sport pundit Nedum Onuoha on your Premier League asked whether Everton should keep Dominic Calvert-Lewin on the expiry of his contract this you have got to say this next season is going to be huge for Dominic Calvert-Lewin have seen his talents but the goalscoring record that got him in and around the England squad is becoming longer and longer needs to find a stretch where he is healthy, fit and available because you want to be able to rely on a striker and Everton have not been able to rely on Calvert-Lewin for a long time have a potential England international in the squad is brilliant - but only if they are available. The club will need to have a serious look at what they can do to first keep him healthy, but then secondly to keep him sharp. This comes from competition in the is worth keeping for now because is there cover if Everton decide to let him go? Do they have someone who can fill those boots straight away?Beto has done well in parts and been trusted in the back half of the season. I do not think Calvert-Lewin himself, or anyone at Everton, really expects him to be a guaranteed starter going forward. Unfortunately for him, he just has not played enough football in the past few the club can find a way to offer him a new deal - on a reduced wage and perhaps appearance-based clauses - then I would keep him as a squad new contract would need to reflect his lack of football. He is just not going to get any deal on the same terms as when he was pushing to play for England, and if the player does not accept that or wants a fresh start then he should for Calvert-Lewin, he can work his way back to being a regular starter and regular goalscorer Onuoha was speaking to BBC Sport's Nat Hayward
