Tribal villagers happy for sanctioning road

Paderu (ASR district): Tribal residents of Kalyanagummi village in Gumma Panchayat, Alluri Sitarama Raju (ASR) district, expressed heartfelt gratitude to district Collector AS Dinesh Kumar for approving the long-pending road construction between Kalyanagummi and Neredlapudi village in Devarapalli mandal. The approval was granted during a special district-level past committee meeting chaired by the Collector on Friday, bringing cheer to the residents, who had long struggled with poor connectivity. In a touching gesture, villagers stood in a line with folded hands, offering their thanks to the Collector and Tribal Welfare Engineering Officer Venu Gopal Rao for addressing their decades-old plea. Until now, the villagers of Kalyanagummi had to take a lengthy and inconvenient route via Damaku in Devarapalli mandal of Vizianagaram district to reach nearby Gummu village. Recognising their plight, former ITDA PO Abhishek had sanctioned Rs One crore in July 2024 for gravel road construction. However, due to pending forest department clearances, the project had not commenced. Following protests from the villagers over the delay, the Collector convened an urgent meeting with the forest and other concerned departments to resolve the issue. With the necessary permissions now granted, construction is expected to begin soon. CPM district committee member K Govind Rao and tribal rights leader Rajarao also thanked the officials for understanding the difficulties faced by the tribal population and for taking timely action to approve the project.

AP partners with WEF for energy centre in Amaravati

Vijayawada: In a significant move to establish Andhra Pradesh as a global hub for innovation and sustainable development, the state government partnered with the World Economic Forum (WEF) to launch 'WEF-AP Centre for Energy and Cyber Resilience' in Amaravati. This initiative aligns with the government's ambitious 'Swarna Andhra Vision 2047'. A Government Order issued on Thursday formalized the establishment of this centre, which will operate under the WEF's global Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR) Network. Notably, it will be India's first thematic C4IR centre and will focus on two critical areas: energy transition and green industries in collaboration with WEF's Centre for Energy and Materials (CENMAT) and AI-led digital transformation and cyber security, in partnership with WEF's Centre for Cyber Security. This initiative stems from high-level meetings with the WEF in Davos and is poised to position Amaravati as India's leading center for green energy, sustainability, and cyber security. The project is being spearheaded by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and IT Minister Nara Lokesh, with the overarching goal of enhancing AP's international profile and attracting significant investments in clean energy, Artificial Intelligence, and digital infrastructure. The centre's key objectives include elevating AP's global standing, fostering international partnerships, supporting the growth of green industries, enhancing cyber security capabilities, and running pilot projects in clean energy, smart grids, and the application of AI in sectors such as agriculture and governance. Furthermore, it aims at upskilling the workforce in cyber security and emerging technologies and connecting the state with prominent global platforms like the WEF's annual meeting at Davos. The state government has allocated Rs 36 crore to support the Centre's operations for three years. It will initially function from Vijayawada or Amaravati and will be governed by a high-level committee chaired by IT Minister Nara Lokesh.

Formula E race: KTR gets fresh ACB summons

Hyderabad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), which is probing the irregularities in the Formula E race, has once again summoned former minister K T Rama Rao. The BRS working president has been asked to appear for an inquiry by 10 am on Monday. Meanwhile, Rao dared Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to take a lie detector test along with him since names of both figure in ACB cases. Earlier, the investigating agency had served notices on KTR on May 26 asking him to attend the inquiry on May 28. However, the BRS leader sought time as he was on his way to the USA and UK, which the agency obliged. Rao, who had earlier attended the Enforcement Directorate (ED) inquiry, went to depose on January 6 along with his lawyers. However, the inquiry officials did not allow the presence of others following which KTR left. Subsequently, on January 8, he appeared before the investigators, who grilled him for seven hours. The ACB is probing irregularities to the tune of a whopping Rs 55 crore. The agency has named three accused, including KTR (A1), senior IAS officer Arvind Kumar (A2) and former HMDA engineer BLN Reddy as A3. Each has been questioned separately.
