Driver slapped with severe penalties for speeding over double posted limit: OPP
Provincial police issued a 'critical reminder' for motorists to slow down after nabbing one driver allegedly speeding more than double the posted limit in Clearview Township.
Police say the accused learned a harsh lesson about the severe consequences of having a heavy foot after being clocked travelling 104 kilometres per hour in a posted 50 km/h zone along Poplar Sideroad.
The motorist was handed a hefty fine, a 14-day vehicle impoundment and a 30-day licence suspension, which are automatic penalties with a stunt driving charge.
In Ontario, stunt driving involves reckless driving behavoiurs, such as excessive speeding, street racing and dangerous maneuvers. Motorists can be charged with stunt driving if they exceed the speed limit by 40 km/h or more in zones with a speed limit under 80 km/h, or 50 km/h or more in zones with a speed limit of 80 km/h or higher.
Police say the message is clear: slow down and stay safe. 'It's not worth the risk to yourself or others.'

Speed traps to be activated in Midland in time for start of school year
A sign warning motorists an automated speed enforcement camera is active is pictured. Speed traps will be activated in time for students to head back to class in a few weeks in Midland, with the aim of reducing dangerous driving habits around schools and in community safety zones. Mayor Bill Gordon advised motorists the 'Coming Soon' signs would soon be swapped out for 'In Use' signage. "We must display these 'in use' signs while the cameras are capturing data," Gordon explained. 'Please practice driving the 40km/hr speed limit.' The town has two cameras located on Yonge Street in front of Mundy's Bay Public School and on William Street in front of Sacred Heart Catholic School. Both will be activated on Sept. 2 and will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, meaning tickets will start to be issued to anyone exceeding the speed limit. The penalties are strictly fines, no demerit points are applied. Tickets are mailed to the vehicle's registered owner.

Vehicle crashes into magic mushroom dispensary in Toronto's Annex neighbourhood
Police are investigating after a vehicle crashed into a magic mushroom dispensary in the Annex neighbourhood Thursday morning, marking the third incident at the magic mushroom chain this month. Toronto police said officers responded to the Shroomyz magic mushroom store in the Bloor Street W. and Brunswick Avenue area just after 2:30 a.m. after reports of a vehicle crashing into the storefront. The driver of the vehicle did not remain at the scene, police said. Security footage obtained by CBC shows a pickup truck driving onto the sidewalk and through the front of the dispensary. A person dressed in white can be seen leaving the vehicle and then running away. No injuries were reported, and the store was empty at the time of the crash, police said. It is not the first time a magic mushroom dispensary has been the subject of a police investigation this month. Police were called to the Shroomyz location at Yonge and Grosvenor streets to investigate a suspected arson on Aug. 6. Less than a week later, police said a vehicle crashed into the same store. In May, several mushroom shops across Toronto were targeted by gunfire, and a vehicle was also driven through a dispensary storefront. Police have said no injuries were reported in any of the incidents. Toronto police said Thursday's investigation is in its very early stages and can't share any details about suspects or if this incident is connected to the other recent incidents involving mushroom dispensaries.
