Sarah Silverman Says ‘SNL' Makes 'You Feel Like a Piece of S***,' Praises Conan O'Brien for Being the 'Best Thing' After Firing
During the early start of her career, the two-time Emmy Award winner joined the sketch-comedy show as a cast member in 1993. However, after just one season, Silverman was fired, and she recently reflected on her time with SNL being 'so magical' and 'amazing,' despite the 'anxiety' that comes with being a part of the cast.

'[SNL], it's so magical, it's so amazing, but there is just something about it where they just have this energy that puts you in your place where you feel like a piece of shit and terrified [with] the anxiety,' she said during an appearance on the Howard Stern Show. 'It's very hard to be zen and chill there.'
After the Wreck-It Ralph star was fired from the show, Silverman remembered being 'totally thrown for a loop' and being in 'such like denial about it.' However, the comedian said that 'the best thing for' post-SNL was appearing on Late Night With Conan O'Brien during his first year hosting the series.
'His first year [hosting Late Night] was my first and only year at SNL, and he put me on all the time even after I was fired,' she said. 'And that was the start for me, and I wouldn't have been able to be on Conan without SNL.'
'[SNL] was an incredible kind of boot camp experience,' she added. Earlier in her chat with Stern, the host asked if Lorne Michaels was the one to fire her, to which she responded, 'I guess, yeah.'
'I got a call from my agents and managers, like you know when they call you together it's either great news or terrible news,' Silverman said. 'I was so new to the industry, and they were like 'Yeah, you're fired,' and I was in such denial about it — I couldn't believe it.'

I Just Realized Why Catherine Zeta-Jones's Mom on 'Wednesday' Looks So Darn Familiar
Season two of Wednesday has officially arrived. The Emmy Award-winning Netflix series returned on August 6 and features eight episodes, split into Part 1 and Part 2. First premiering in 2022 and quickly garnering a cult fan base, the show now continues with season two following the life of Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega), the quick-witted teenager who attends Nevermore Academy. Aside from Ortega, many other actors from the first season have returned, including Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Isaac Ordonez and Fred Armisen. Speaking of the recognizable faces, there is one actor in particular who looks *so* familiar, and I hadn't been able to pinpoint where exactly I'd seen her before…until now. In the show, Zeta-Jones plays Morticia Addams, whose mother, Grandmama Hester Frump, aka Wednesday and Pugsley's grandmother, is a new character on the scene. Grandmama is played by Joanna Lumley, whose previous credits include the likes of The New Avengers (2025), Finding Alice (2018), Absolutely Fabulous (1992) and more. Lumley's first major role was as a Bond girl in 1969's On Her Majesty's Secret Service. But of course, she is best known for her role as Patsy in the BBC comedy series Absolutely Fabulous. Also appearing in a range of stage productions and television series, her additional credits include A Rather English Marriage (1999), which earned her a BAFTA nomination for Best Actress, Ella Enchanted (2004), where she starred alongside Anne Hathaway, and a starring role in La Bête, which opened in October 2010 at the Music Box Theatre in New York City. Netflix Lumley has garnered praise for her media work in the UK, where she has become one of the most recognizable voice-over artists. Some of her recent credits include the 2021 film The Picture of Dorian Gray and a six-episode stint on the 2025 television series Amandaland. As for her role in Wednesday, Grammy Frump is the fabulous, wealthy mogul behind Frump Mortuaries, one of the most successful outcast-owned businesses in the country. Described as cold and calculating, it hasn't taken long for her to stir the pot, making her an instant topic of conversation. I'm so glad I was able to figure out where else I have seen Lumley. Big-Name Actor Says Donald Trump Asked Her Out On Day Her Divorce Was Finalized
Two-time Oscar-winner Emma Thompson wasn't feeling anything near love actually when Donald Trump asked her out to dinner back in the day. The Howards End star said Saturday at the Locarno Film Festival that Trump called her in her trailer while she was filming the 1998 political movie Primary Colors. It was also the day her divorce from actor Kenneth Branagh was finalized. 'He said, 'Hello, this is Donald Trump.' I thought it was a joke and asked: 'How can I help you?' Maybe he needed directions from someone. Then he said: 'I'd love you to come and stay at one of my beautiful places. Maybe we could have dinner,'' she told the audience, per the Telegraph. 'I said: 'Well, that's very sweet. Thank you so much. I'll get back to you.'' Thompson, who received a career award and premiered her latest movie at the festival, The Dead of Winter, concluded Trump was 'stalking' her. 'I realized that on that day, my divorce, my divorce decree, you know, the final papers of my divorce had come through,' she said, according to The Hollywood Reporter. 'And I thought, I bet he's got people looking for suitable people he could take out on his arm, you know, a nice divorcee. That's what he was looking for, and he found the number in my trailer. I mean, that's stalking!' While she may have shown sense and sensibility in rejecting Trump, who's had a troubling history with women, she comically saw a lost opportunity. 'I could have gone on a date with Donald Trump, and then I would have a story to tell,' she said. 'I could have changed the course of American history.' Thompson has told the story before, leaving one to wonder again what having an actual British dame as the U.S. first lady could have been like. HuffPost reached out to the White House for comment.
