The animal experiences available in NSW are just as diverse and wonderful as our landscapes, which provide plenty of places to have close-up encounters in the wild. But if you're hoping to spot more than roaming wallabies and roos, our top wildlife parks also offer the chance to see Tassie devils, giraffes, echidnas and even cheeky quokkas. Want to know the best spots to see them all in one place? New research has just unveiled the most picturesque wildlife locations in the world, and the top spot is right here in NSW. The researchers at Titan Travel recently published a Wildlife Safari Index, which aims to spotlight the best destinations around the world for animal lovers outside of Africa. They compiled a list of locations offering the ideal balance of diverse wildlife, endangered species conservation and accessible travel, then ranked them across categories like most affordable, top-rated and most Instagram-worthy. The top scorer? Featherdale Wildlife Park in Sydney's west.
Located deep within Sydney's sprawling west – just a 45-minute drive from the CBD – Featherdale boasts the world's largest collection of native Australian wildlife. With more than 2,000 native animals, including 68 endangered species, the park puts a big focus on conservation – but also on unforgettable hands-on encounters with its (generally) cute mammals. You can hand-feed wallabies and kangaroos, pat a koala, step into a penguin enclosure and snap a quokka selfie – talk about a guaranteed Instagram win!
Victoria's Werribee Open Range Zoo ranks as the second most Insta-worthy wildlife location, with more than 126,000 tags. The highlight is the zoo's open-air safari buses, which take visitors on an African-inspired journey to see giraffes, rhinos, zebras and hippopotamuses splashing in the river.
Just outside of Melbourne, Healesville Sanctuary claimed fourth spot for the most picturesque wildlife experience (94,400 tags), with Moonlit Sanctuary Wildlife Conservation Park following closely in fifth (56,900 tags). You can check out the full results below.

The pair had also been planning to move in together this month – but their split will clearly put a stop to those plans. Harriett told us: "Yes! In June. Everything's happening at once. We're moving up towards London, which is exciting. It's really close to Matilda [Draper], so we'll be spending a lot of time with her, and going back and forth." Leading by a long way, the Great Barrier Reef Drive sped into first place, recording a remarkable 117 per cent jump in online monthly searches over the past year. Starting in Cairns, this 140-kilometre journey follows the coast north to Port Douglas and then over to the Great Barrier Reef, where travellers can live out their Little Mermaid dreams. We suggest making a pit stop at Mossman Gorge to swim in croc-safe waters, or take a guided Dreamtime walk through the ancient Daintree Rainforest. From there, continue cruising up to Cape Tribulation, where two immense World Heritage-listed wonders (the reef and the rainforest) meet together in perfect harmony. Australia's second-hottest road trip right now is the Grand Pacific Drive from Sydney to the Sapphire Coast, which saw an 83 per cent surge in searches. This scenic journey is another favourite for travellers chasing epic ocean views and dramatic cliffside landscapes – and it also brags what might be the most photogenic stretch of road in Australia: the legendary Seacliff Bridge. The third trendiest road trip is Western Australia's 1,200 kilometre South West Edge from Perth to Esperance, which saw a 33 per cent increase in search interest. Race Across the World pays heartbreaking tribute to contestant after sad death
Race Across the World paid tribute to a former contestant at the end of tonight's episode, after it was revealed that Sam Gardiner has died aged 24 in a car crash Race Across the World has honoured a past contestant following their untimely passing. The emotional tribute came at the close of Wednesday's episode for 24-year-old Sam Gardiner, who passed away this week. When the end credits began to roll, the viewers were met with a touching tribute to the series two adventurer. Displayed alongside Sam's photo, the message read: "In loving memory of Sam Gardiner, 2000 to 2025." Fans of the hit BBC travel show expressed their sorrow on X (formerly Twitter), with one posting: "They gave Sam Gardiner an end card. Sad." Another shared: "The tribute to Sam Gardiner [sad face]," and one more added: "Rest in peace to Sam Gardiner, who took part in series 2 with his Mum, Jo, back in 2020." A fourth viewer noted: "Lovely tribute to Sam at the end," while another wrote: "Rest in peace Sam." Sam tragically died in a car crash on Sunday (June 1), as confirmed by his family, reports Plymouth Live. The homage was wrapped up with: "Since filming, both Sam and Jo have been an integral part of the Race Across the World cast family and on behalf of us all from the BBC, production and the rest of the cast, we would like to extend our deepest condolences." Sam and mum Jo were unable to compete in the final leg of the race after they ran out of money. However, Sam had described his time on Race Across the World as a "life-changing" experience.
