One New Look pair scored a mere 3 out of 10
LEG IT I always struggled to find flattering trousers with my pancake bum – then I got the best summer pair in Primark for £10
BEING tall and having a pancake bum often makes finding trousers that fit right incredibly challenging.
Thanks to my size 12, 5ft 6in frame, buying trousers often ends up with plenty of huffs and puffs in high street changing rooms, with endless clothes that are either too long or too short, as well as being far too baggy on my behind.

Here, I, Abby Wilson, put eight pairs of trousers to the test, on a mission to find the perfect pair for summer.
And with the weather hopefully heating up soon, I was desperate to find trousers that are not only stylish and bloat-friendly, but lightweight and suitable for warm days too.
So if you're wondering which pair of trousers you should buy and which are best left on the shelf, you'll need to read on and take notes.
Next Pink Wide Leg Pull On Striped Trousers, £26
After seeing these Pink Wide Leg Pull On Striped Trousers as soon as I walked into Next, they instantly caught my eye and I was excited to get my hands on them.

These Next trousers are incredibly eye-catching and flattering

At £26, they aren't the cheapest pair available, but when you feel the quality of them, the price tag will make perfect sense.
Yes, they might look like pyjama bottoms but thankfully, they don't make my pancake bum look even flatter than it already is thanks to the flattering stripe design.
They're bound to turn heads and the elasticated waistband gets a thumbs up from me.

If you're looking for a pair of trousers that will feel as comfortable as your favourite PJ bottoms, look no further.

This pair look like PJs, but are a great length

I'm undecided if I'm brave enough to wear these Textured Gingham Wide Leg Trousers out of the house, but where length is concerned, they're a great fit.

Fashion fans 'need' Primark's new £14 linen trousers - there's two colours to choose from and they're great for spring
They're a really flattering style and yes, they're super casual and surprisingly, I'm a fan.
I can't say they do any favours for my flat derrière, but from the front, I'm impressed.

New Look Cream Stripe Print Wide Leg Trousers, £29.99
Finding trousers fit for the beach has often been a struggle for me, and it appears that I'll need to continue my search after trying on this New Look pair.

The lack of pocket let this pair down
Credit: Abigail Wilson
Much to my disappointment, these Cream Stripe Print Wide Leg Trousers are too short.
And to top things off, they don't have pockets, which is a real bugbear of mine.
If that wasn't bad enough, at just under £30, they're pretty expensive, so unfortunately don't get my seal of approval this season.

New Look Rust Crinkle Texture Wide Leg Trousers, £29.99
Things looked up for New Look with this pair of Crinkle Texture Wide Leg Trousers, as I'm a huge fan of the colour and the length is perfect.

While this New Look pair crease very easily

But like the previous pair, they don't have pockets, which is a big letdown.

And that's not all - they also crease easily, which is less than ideal.
If you don't mind working up a sweat and doing the ironing on holiday then these could be good for you, but for me, I'll unfortunately have to pass.

Hottest fashion trends of 2025
Fabulous' Fashion Editor Clemmie Fieldsend shares the biggest trends from the high street.
The East/West Bag
Baguette bags have had a good run, after returning from the 1990s' shoulders of Sarah Jessica Parker to modern-day fashion icons, like Hailey Bieber.
In 2025, the East/West bag is a similar but elongated shape and has long, thin straps that are easy to throw over your shoulder.
They've been on runway models' arms at nearly ever designer show - think Burberry, Givenchy and Bottega Veneta - and are hitting the high street now, too.
Powder pink
Bright fuchsia pink had its day after the release of Barbie in 2023 and now the more polished and expensive-looking pale shade is taking over for 2025.
Pantone may say that it's the year of Mocha Mousse, but the catwalks say otherwise! From Prada to Erdem, the subtle look was all over the spring/summer catwalks, worn head-to-toe or on its own.
If the sugary shade is too girly for you, then look to sharp suiting for a androgynous take on the colour.
The shell jacket
The '80s classic is back, but with a sleek and minimal new twist for 2025.
We all know we're likely to see rain for most of spring, so your practical coat of choice should be a cagoule jacket.
Depop revealed one of its big trend predictions for this year is retro sportswear, with surges already seen in '80s windbreakers'.
Seen everywhere from the stylish streets of Copenhagen to the Miu Miu catwalk, now mums who have an emergency raincoat crumpled underneath their pushchair are very much in fashion!
The turn-up jeans
While the shape of jeans remains the same for this year and barrel-legs will still be everywhere, the way we're styling them is different.
This season, transform your wide-leg, baggy denims into turn-ups.
For this look, size doesn't matter, so while deep turn-ups are a hit from jean trend-leaders Citizens of Humanity, a slight fold is still just as good - but only as it's just one single fold.
Peep-toe shoe
Get your pedicures booked in sharpish, as this season your toes are the main event.
After a long hiatus, the peep-toe has been welcomed back into the fashion fold, with brands like Hermes, Miu Miu and Tory Burch showing plain and embellished footwear in this style.
From mules to pumps and clogs (yes, clogs will be around too!), there are lots of different styles that are set to sweep the high street.
Sheer blouses
See-through looks have always lived on the catwalk, but have rarely filtered into everyday life - until now.
Designers Ralph Lauren and Tom Ford loved sheer looks on their S/S '25 catwalks and M&S even had sellout success with its black sheer pencil skirt last season.
Expect to see more sheer looks lining supermarket aisles and high street shops in the form of skirts, tops and frocks.
M&S Rose Pink Crepe Elasticated Waist Wide Leg Trousers, £29.50
If you're on the hunt for a colourful pair of trousers that are sure to turn heads, these M&S trousers could be just the pair for you.

This pink pair from an M&S get an 8 out of 10
Credit: Abigail Wilson
These rose pink Crepe Elasticated Waist Wide Leg Trousers are not only a stunning shade, but they're spot on with the leg length too.
Even better, they're incredibly versatile - they are appropriate enough to be paired with a white shirt for a business meeting, but are flowy enough that they'll look equally as great with a T-shirt and trainers.
My fellow tall girls will be pleased to know that they're available in a long length, which is a real win, but sizes are selling out fast, so you'll need to move quickly to nab them.

M&S Navy Linen Blend Wide Leg Trousers, £27.50
The M&S Linen Blend Wide Leg Trousers are another pair selling out fast, but there's plenty of other colours I'm desperate to stock up in.

This navy pair are also impressive

I got these comfy and lightweight trousers in navy and they are the newest summer staple in my wardrobe.

Thanks to their lightweight material, I'm sure they'll be effective for keeping cool, without having to scrimp on style.
Why Everyone Is Loving M&S
Deputy Fashion Editor Abby McHale revealed to Fabulous why M&S is the shop of the moment. She explained:
'M&S has really pulled it out of the bag this season, there is so much good product to be excited about.
'A brand once known for its 'frumpy fashion' that notion is long gone with it now being one of the leading high street stores for womenswear.
'Its handbag range in particular is super strong with them selling 170% vs plan, with lots more designer dupes for just a fraction of the price.
'The brand is now also the #1 for style perceptions, compared to the #3 spot it had last year, this comes from a really strong design team focused on modernising the brand, not only taking into consideration how the pieces look, but how easy they are to wear also.
'Price is also a big factor with you being able to get many good quality pieces all for under £30.
'After having a sneak peak of the upcoming collection there are so many more amazing pieces that are dropping over the next few months to keep your eyes on.
'Think leopard print dresses, colourful co-ords, embroidered boho jackets, plus lots of swimwear and amazing accessories, as well as great wardrobe staples that will last year on year.'
They are the perfect wide leg and the elasticated waist is a winner for me - so you can say goodbye to uncomfortable trousers digging in at your stomach after scoffing a tasty meal thanks to this M&S pair.
My rating: 9/10
Primark Wide Leg Plissé Trousers, £10
Unlike all of the other trousers I tried, these Wide Leg Plissé Trousers are without doubt the most flattering on my bum.

But the winning pair is only £10 from Primark
Credit: Abigail Wilson
According to Primark bosses, these floaty trousers are 'made for movement (and compliments)' and I can definitely see why.
The pull-on waistband went down well in my book and for once, I actually look like I have a bit of a bum in these.
To top it off, they're incredibly lightweight and can also be great dressed up or down - what's not to like?

Primark Crinkle Wide Leg Trousers, £12
And it's clear that Primark are slaying the trouser game this summer, as these Crinkle Wide Leg Trousers are another winner for me.

And this pair are another great bargain
Credit: Abigail Wilson
They're only £12, so a proper bargain and they're really cool and airy too.

The crinkle style is ultra flattering and even better, the colour is bang on trend.
The only downside is they don't have pockets, but despite this, I can already see myself wearing these time and time again this season.

And the best part? It's currently on sale at 40% off. The 50-year-old looked 'stunning' in the Amara Embroidered Jersey Dress from celeb-loved retailer Boden on Thursday's show. Though it comes in four colourways, Charlotte opted for the vibrant red option with pink detailing, pairing it with some red court shoes. Usually £120, the frock is currently on sale for £72, saving shoppers nearly £50 off the RRP. Made from 100% cotton, the dress is ideal for wearing in the warm weather or for taking on holiday, boasting a 'flattering' fit and flare shape, detachable belt and side seam pockets. It has a notched V-neckline and on trend puff sleeves, with the tiered skirt falling to the mid calf, so it can be paired with heels or flats easily. For a similar look, Next is selling this Another Sunday Red Puff Sleeve 100% Cotton Embroidered Tiered Midi Dress for £70, available in sizes 8-18. Crafted from cotton, it features a flattering V-neckline with delicate rickrack detailing for a touch of charm. Amara Embroidered Jersey Dress £120.00 £72.00 Boden Buy here Product Description Alternatively, Nobody's Child is offering their Red Starlight Midi Dress for £85. This puff sleeve midi dress features button front detailing that falls to a flowy, A-line shape. GMB's Charlotte loved the Boden dress so much, she immediately shared a snap to Instagram wearing it. Her followers were quick to compliment the star, writing: 'This dress is so gorgeous.' Another person said: 'Charlotte is absolutely gorgeous. Queen of hearts,' while a third addded: 'stunning dress.' And is not just Charlotte's fans who loved it, either, with the swishy number racking up several five-star reviews on the Boden website. 'She happened to be in the same flight as me and I couldn't resist asking her where she had bought it. The rest is history, I love the dresses, they fit perfectly and look so unique.' It missed the mark for others, though, with one saying it was 'underwhelming'. They wrote: 'This dress is nice enough. Good quality lots of compliments but not my favorite. Design wise it's a little underwhelming in person. It's user friendly and easy to wear.' A fourth added: 'This dress is absolute perfection. The fabric and embroidery quality is excellent. It is heavy and well made, but still very comfortable. I love the pockets, and the length is just right, hitting just above the ankle (I am 5'4" for reference). I got several compliments the first time I wore it.' For another celeb-approved Boden pick, Lorraine Kelly sported the Boden Chirstabel Cotton Midi Dress in a 'gallery blue and walled garden' print as she jetted off to Zimbabwe over the weekend. My bargain Shein haul if you're struggling this wedding season & the dress you couldn't pay me to expose my cleavage in
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) WEDDING season is officially in full swing - but finding the perfect frock can often prove to be a real challenge. Searching through thousands of results on numerous websites for a stunning wedding guest dress can often feel like a full-time job and when you're a tall girl, it's even harder. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 8 With a wedding to attend right around the corner, here, Abby Wilson shares her honest thoughts on six dresses from Shein Credit: Abigail Wilson 8 Not only did she get candid on the biggest loser of them all, but she also revealed the dress fashionistas will need to race to nab Not only do you want a frock that will fit nicely and be bloat-friendly as well as suitable for hours of dancing, but many of us are after something that won't burn a hole in our purse. As a result, Abby Wilson, a Senior Digital Writer, who is a size 12 and 5ft7, ordered six wedding guest dresses from Shein, on a mission to find the best bargain buy that is not only the right length and fit, but is affordable too. Here, the Shein shopper shares her honest thoughts on her recent haul, including the best dress you won't want to miss. As well as this, the bargain hunter also got candid on the biggest let down of all, that left very little to the imagination… Dress #1, Floral Strapless Maxi Dress When I saw this Strapless Maxi Dress on the Shein website, I instantly knew I had to have it. 8 This dress scored a 4/5 Credit: Abigail Wilson As well as being super trendy, it's also not too tight, which is great for a post-wedding meal and endless glasses of Prosecco. While it was originally £24.99, I managed to get it for just £15.49, which I think is a real steal. As well as being purse-friendly, it immediately left me really impressed when I tried it on. It's pretty, floaty and in my books, is perfect for a summer wedding. My rating: 4/5 Frankie Bridge slammed by fans again for SHEER wedding guest dress that's 'too much' and will 'upstage the bridge' Dress #2, Lavishia Solid Color Mini Dress My hopes were incredibly high for this Solid Color Mini Dress, which had been slashed from £15.99 to £8.27. 8 But this frock was a big loser Credit: Abigail Wilson It looked gorgeous in the pictures, but was somewhat of a horror show when it arrived. Yes, beggars can't be choosers when spending less than a tenner on a dress, but unfortunately, there was not much right and a lot wrong with this frock. The material of the dress, particularly the skirt part, felt very cheap and rather than chic, how it appeared online, it instead looked a bit of a flop on my figure. I liked the colour and neck scarf, but the material of the bodice didn't do me any favours, making this dress something I couldn't force myself to wear out of the house, let alone to someone's special day. My rating: 2/5 Dress #3, Plunging Back A-Line Dress I imagined I would feel out of this world in this A-Line Dress, but the plunge neckline was not appropriate for any event, let alone a wedding. 8 This dress left very little to the imagination Credit: Abigail Wilson The saving was impressive - while it was once £24.99, it had been reduced down to only £11.68 - but you couldn't pay me to bare my cleavage in this. The colour was nice and the material was great for the price, but when it says plunge, this dress really means plunge. Wedding Guest Outfit Etiquette If you're struggling to decided on a dress to see you through wedding season, here's a few rules on what not to wear so you don't get in trouble. Folklore says that wearing red at a wedding means you slept with the groom. Casual attire like jeans and flip flops should always be avoided. Any colour that could be picked up as white or cream - even if it's not. Most would agree that your cleavage needs to be covered. Wearing white is a massive no-no if you're not the bride. My entire chest, literally everything, was on show with this maxi dress, which made me feel more exposed than ever before. If you're not afraid to get your assets out, it might not be a total loser, but for me, it's a definite no go. My rating: 1/5 Dress #4, Sleeveless Ruffle Tiered Spaghetti Strap Dress Yellow is super on trend at the moment and what perfect colour for a destination wedding on a sunny day? 8 If you're searching for something flattering, this could be your best bet Credit: Abigail Wilson I'm a huge fan of ruffle dresses, which are super flattering for those who are self-conscious of their tummy. This Spaghetti Strap Dress, which I got for just £19.49, after it was reduced from £31.49, left me beaming. Not only is the shade gorgeous, but it's super comfy and a great length too. To top it off, it's also got a lovely tie back detail and for less than £20, is a win win in my books. My rating: 4/5 Dress #5, Halter Tiered Chiffon Maxi Dress With a 48% off saving, bringing this Chiffon Maxi Dress from £29.49 to £15.38, it was a great price, but not so great a dress. 8 This dress comes up very large and is super heavy Credit: Abigail Wilson As well as being incredibly heavy, it didn't look anything like the picture and barely covered my side boob. It comes up big and if you want something that looks like a sack, then it might be for you, but for me, I'll be sending it straight back. While it is described in the listing as 'elegant', in my opinion, it's the total opposite. Yes, it arrived quickly thanks to the fast posting of Shein Club, but it left me not very disappointed with the unflattering, oversized fit. My rating: 2/5 Dress #6, Asymmetrical Neck Ruched Ruffle Hem Dress Last, but certainly not least, this Ruched Ruffle Hem Dress is the star of the show for me. 8 This frock took the top spot, with a five out of five rating Credit: Abigail Wilson Not only is the colour great, but it's super flattering too. While I thought it might be somewhat uncomfortable, this £13.49 frock, which had been reduced from £28.49, proved me very wrong (in the best way). If you're searching for a last-minute wedding guest dress, you'll want to nab this, and fast Abby Wilson My partner gasped when he saw it and not only is it sure to turn heads, but even better, it's really comfortable too. I'm normally more of a flowy dress kind of girl, but now I'm not surprised this beautiful, bold frock is a Shein bestseller. If you're searching for a last-minute wedding guest dress, you'll want to nab this, and fast.
