O2 and Xbox unite to offer customers Game Pass Ultimate with a big saving

Daily Mirror28-04-2025

The gaming pass gives access to hundreds of Xbox games, with existing and new O2 customers able to take advantage of the offer
O2 and Xbox have joined forces to offer gamers the Game Pass Ultimate. The gaming pass gives players access to hundreds of games, including Grand Theft Auto V, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Minecraft, with online multiplayer also available.
O2 customers are able to purchase the Game Pass Ultimate for £14.99 a month and can enjoy a £1 discount off their airtime bill every month as an added perk. Games are available online from Xbox Game Studios, Bethesda Softworks, Activision Blizzard and more and can be played on a selection of smart TVs, iPhone 16, Samsung Galaxy S25 and META Quest 3 with Xbox Cloud Gaming (Beta).
Shoppers wanting to switch to O2 or upgrade to a new plan can choose the Game Pass Ultimate as a paid extra when completing their order online, in store or over the phone.
Customers who love gaming and already have Xbox Game Pass Ultimate can still take advantage of this offer, but will need to cancel their existing subscription with Microsoft to avoid being billed twice, which may be time consuming. There is a minimum Game Pass Ultimate sign-up period of six months, and the charge will appear in customers' monthly bills from O2.
The Game Pass Ultimate isn't the only perk for O2 gamers, as they can also enjoy exclusive access to Virgin Media Gamepad, the ultimate free gaming destination based at The O2 in London.
Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is the newest subscription service to join O2 Extra's catalogue of perks, with customers also able to get Disney+ from £4.99 per month, Prime for £8.99 per month, Cafeyn for £7.99 per month, McAfee Mobile Security Plus for £4.99 per month or McAfee Mobile Security Standard for £1 per month. O2 Extras appear on a customer's monthly bill alongside their Airtime.
O2 isn't the only network offering the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate as an add-on. EE customers who have a monthly plan that includes Inclusive Extras can select the gaming pass, however, unlike O2, EE isn't offering a discount on airtime when the gaming pass is added to a customer's plan.
New O2 customers can also save on a variety of SIM-only plans, including the 24-month Ultimate Classic Plan which costs £16 a month for the first six months, then increases to £32 a month. Alternatively, EE is currently offering its Unlimited Essentials Plus 24-month plan for £24 a month, down from £26. Sky's Unlimited data plan is £27 a month for the first 12 months, before increasing to £29 a month.

New Nintendo Switch 2 bundles can be paid for in instalments

New Nintendo Switch 2 bundles will be available at launch, but not everyone will be able to buy them and not just because of limited stock. You're no doubt already aware how difficult it has been to secure a Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order, ever since they went live last month – despite Nintendo's efforts to make enough stock to meet demand. Now that launch week is upon us, some UK retailers have announced that they'll be able to supply a small amount of Switch 2 consoles on launch day itself, which is Thursday, June 5. Smyths is running a midnight launch across its stores, Argos has informed customers that it'll have new stock by launch day morning, and now a new set of bundles have been announced… although they do require some extra hoop jumping. These bundles will be exclusively available through mobile network operator and internet service provider EE and its own online store. Not everyone can just hop on and purchase them though; you need to already be an EE mobile customer. If you are, then this is a golden opportunity for scoring a Switch 2 at launch. Plus, you don't need to pay the full price straight away, as EE is offering monthly plans. The first bundle is for the console and a copy of Mario Kart World (EE hasn't specified if it's a digital or physical copy). Normally, Nintendo sells this for £429.99, but EE's deal asks for £20 upfront followed by monthly payments of £22 on a 24-month plan. More Trending This does come to £548 in total, but the bundle also includes a 12-month Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription (the one that'll let you access GameCube games) and 24 months of Gamer's and Video Data Passes for streaming and playing games without using up your mobile data allowance. The second bundle is the same as the first, but it throws in the Switch 2 camera accessory as well. For this, you pay £20 upfront and then £25 a month on a 24-month plan. The third and final one has all the same content as the second one, plus an extra pair of Joy-Con 2s and £50 of game credit. It is the most expensive of the lot, requiring the usual £20 starting fee and then £30 a month on a 24-month plan. If you meet the criteria, you'll be able to purchase one of these bundles on EE's own online store on June 5. Unfortunately, EE doesn't mention an exact time for when they'll go live, and you know these will sell out super quickly, despite being limited to EE customers. Two major games to stop working on some PlayStation and Xbox consoles – it'll cost fans a fortune to keep playing

There are a number of reasons why games lose support for older consoles, such as development costs and hardware limitations GAME OVER Two major games to stop working on some PlayStation and Xbox consoles – it'll cost fans a fortune to keep playing TWO popular games are winding down this month as they lose compatibility with older consoles. To keep playing, fans will have to upgrade to the newer PlayStation 5 and Xbox X|S - costing as much as £499. 2 Black Desert Online will end support for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One after nearly a decade Credit: Pearl Abyss 2 The First Descendant is also ending support for last-generation consoles, less than a year after it first launched Credit: Nexon Black Desert Online and The First Descendant are the latest titles to ditch support for the aging PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. After nearly a decade of service, the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the Black Desert Online will be shutting down on 26 June. The creators at developer Pearl Abyss said they were shifting focus to the existing PC version of the game and the all-new PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions. In-game purchases for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players are set to be restricted. Gamers will be able to keep playing - and pick up from where they left off - only if they upgrade to a new console. When Black Desert Online is eventually made available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S after maintenance, players on the respective PS and Xbox platforms may continue with all their saved data, its creators said. All game data, including purchased items and in-game currency will be stored and accessible on those platforms. The First Descendant is also ending support for last-generation consoles, less than a year after it first launched. The title is set to be discontinued on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One from 19 June, just two weeks before the game's first anniversary. The Sun tries new Nintendo Switch 2 and Mario Kart before it's out The creators at Nexon Games pinned the decision on the "increased scale" of the game. The developer added that the team was spending "a lot of effort and difficulty maintaining the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One builds," prior to the shutdown. The First Descendant has been on a downward trajectory for the last few months as its player count dwindles, according to The Gamer. There are a number of reasons why games lose support for older consoles, such as development costs and hardware limitations. Older hardware can't keep up with modern game features, making it harder to deliver new content smoothly on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The Last of Us fans hit with disappointing update for season three release date

The Last of Us fans may be expected to wait a lot time for the release of season three of the hit HBO show... Fans of the HBO hit series The Last of Us can likely expect a long wait for the third season of the critically acclaimed post-apocalyptic drama television series. Season two of the drama finished last week, with some fans branding it as "disappointing". The season finale ended with Bella Ramsey's character Ellie confronting vengeful killer Abby, who is played by Kaitlyn Dever. The series is based on the video game franchise developed by Naughty Dog, which was released in 2013 on Xbox and Playstation. ‌ The show quickly became a fan favourite due to viewers enjoyment of the game. Despite mixed reviews for the season finale, it was already renewed for a third season ahead of the season two release date. Similar to the game, the next season is expected to shift to Abby's perspective. ‌ At a press conference last month, according to Vulture, co-creator Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann admitted they still aren't sure how much viewers can expect to see characters Ellie, Dina (Isabela Merced), Tommy (Gabriel Luna), and Jesse (Young Mazino) in the next season. This led fans to believe the creators haven't completed writing the season yet. This theory was later appeared to be confirmed by Bella, who recently told Variety that they hadn't "seen any scripts," yet. When Bella was asked whether their character would take on a smaller role in the third season, the 21-year-old said: "I haven't seen any scripts, but yes, I do expect that. I think that I'm going to be there, but not a whole bunch." ‌ Although they did not give anything away, they continued: "We've had conversations about that. I sort of have a rough idea of what it's going to be, but I can't tell you." However, creator Craig revealed: "All I can say is we haven't seen the last of Kaitlyn Dever and we haven't seen the last of Bella Ramsey, and we haven't seen the last of Isabela Merced, and we haven't seen the last of a lot of people who are currently dead in the story." As Neil teased: "Whether you will see them on screen or not, their presence will be there throughout." ‌ Speaking previously about the show's future, Craig assured viewers that they were "not going to go past the game." He told The Hollywood Reporter: "I'll just say that flat out. So if people are thinking, 'Oh, these guys are planning the old cash grab thing… ‌ "I'm basically setting a decade of my rapidly dwindling life on fire to tell this story. The show is so hard to make. It has to have an end. So I'm not going to go past." Fans of the show could not be more upset with the long wait for season three, as they took to social media to discuss their upset. One fan wrote on Reddit: "I don't understand why they didn't just film season 2 and 3 at the same time or at least make season 10 episodes and have parts of 5. Honestly and a lot of people agree with me on this 2027 to see another 7 or 8 episodes is a joke." Which promoted another viewer to reply: "They should have made season 2 as long as it took. 15 or 20 episodes. Just f*****g do it." As a third replied, showing their distrust to HBO: "The current head of HBO sucks and is making terrible decisions."
