The Last of Us fans hit with disappointing update for season three release date
The Last of Us fans may be expected to wait a lot time for the release of season three of the hit HBO show...
Fans of the HBO hit series The Last of Us can likely expect a long wait for the third season of the critically acclaimed post-apocalyptic drama television series. Season two of the drama finished last week, with some fans branding it as "disappointing".
The season finale ended with Bella Ramsey's character Ellie confronting vengeful killer Abby, who is played by Kaitlyn Dever. The series is based on the video game franchise developed by Naughty Dog, which was released in 2013 on Xbox and Playstation.
The show quickly became a fan favourite due to viewers enjoyment of the game. Despite mixed reviews for the season finale, it was already renewed for a third season ahead of the season two release date. Similar to the game, the next season is expected to shift to Abby's perspective.
At a press conference last month, according to Vulture, co-creator Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann admitted they still aren't sure how much viewers can expect to see characters Ellie, Dina (Isabela Merced), Tommy (Gabriel Luna), and Jesse (Young Mazino) in the next season.
This led fans to believe the creators haven't completed writing the season yet.
This theory was later appeared to be confirmed by Bella, who recently told Variety that they hadn't "seen any scripts," yet.
When Bella was asked whether their character would take on a smaller role in the third season, the 21-year-old said: "I haven't seen any scripts, but yes, I do expect that. I think that I'm going to be there, but not a whole bunch."
Although they did not give anything away, they continued: "We've had conversations about that. I sort of have a rough idea of what it's going to be, but I can't tell you."
However, creator Craig revealed: "All I can say is we haven't seen the last of Kaitlyn Dever and we haven't seen the last of Bella Ramsey, and we haven't seen the last of Isabela Merced, and we haven't seen the last of a lot of people who are currently dead in the story."
As Neil teased: "Whether you will see them on screen or not, their presence will be there throughout."
Speaking previously about the show's future, Craig assured viewers that they were "not going to go past the game."
He told The Hollywood Reporter: "I'll just say that flat out. So if people are thinking, 'Oh, these guys are planning the old cash grab thing…
"I'm basically setting a decade of my rapidly dwindling life on fire to tell this story. The show is so hard to make. It has to have an end. So I'm not going to go past."
Fans of the show could not be more upset with the long wait for season three, as they took to social media to discuss their upset.
One fan wrote on Reddit: "I don't understand why they didn't just film season 2 and 3 at the same time or at least make season 10 episodes and have parts of 5. Honestly and a lot of people agree with me on this 2027 to see another 7 or 8 episodes is a joke."
Which promoted another viewer to reply: "They should have made season 2 as long as it took. 15 or 20 episodes. Just f*****g do it."
As a third replied, showing their distrust to HBO: "The current head of HBO sucks and is making terrible decisions."

There has been speculation that the two co-stars had drifted apart after being on the HBO show, which follows the lives of guests and staff at a luxury resort as dark secrets are revealed and tensions rise over the course of the holiday. The third series sees the positive Chelsea, played by British actress Wood, 31, try to keep her mysterious older boyfriend, Rick, played by 53-year-old US actor Goggins, calm in Thailand. Following the 2025 series, Goggins appeared to step away from his fellow co-stars, and unfollow Greater Manchester-born Wood on Instagram. They both addressed the swirling rumours during a joint interview for US publication Variety, which was published on Wednesday. Goggins said: "There is no feud. I adore, I love this woman (Aimee) madly, and she is so important to me." Article continues below He added that "she's special", and explained he had not addressed the reports before as he did not want to talk about Wood when she was not there. "I think it's such a comment on where we're at culturally. Why is everyone obsessing over Instagram? That is irrelevant. We don't give a shite about Instagram," Wood said. Goggins said that when he finished The White Lotus he "needed to just back away from everyone", as it is his "process" when filming a project ends. "It's all so ridiculous," he said. "It's just a part of me just saying goodbye to this character so that now Aimee and I will be friends for f****** ever." Wood previously criticised a Saturday Night Live sketch, with an cast member impersonating her with exaggerated prosthetic teeth, calling it "mean and unfunny" on Instagram. She told Variety that it "felt misogynistic. It felt like the punchline was a woman's appearance, which is just not funny. It's not cool". Goggins shared the same sketch online and praised Jon Hamm for playing a version of his character, before deleting the Instagram post, ahead of hosting SNL> He said he was "gonna say it (something) to your face", and added: "I don't use social media in any way, and I'm not a mean guy." SNL apologised for the April sketch, according to Wood, and the comedian and cast member who impersonated her, Sarah Sherman, sent her flowers to apologise. Wood is also known for Netflix teen show Sex Education, BBC comedy Daddy Issues and the 2022 drama film Living with Bill Nighy. Goggins has been in Western series Justified, post-apocalyptic series Fallout, and drama Sons Of Anarchy. Amanda Holden defends Beckhams as she tells co-star to 'stop it' after jibe
Amanda Holden wasn't impressed when her Heart Breakfast co-star Jamie Theakston appeared to make an indirect dig at the Beckhams during a showbiz segment on the radio show Amanda Holden firmly told her Heart Breakfast co-host Jamie Theakston to "stop it" during a live broadcast after he made an indirect jibe at David and Victoria Beckham and their brood. On the showbiz segment yesterday (Wednesday, June 4) Ashley Roberts, formerly of the Pussycat Dolls, dished out some juicy gossip about one of HBO's The White Lotus stars. The news centred around Patrick Schwarzenegger, who portrays Saxon Ratliff in the acclaimed third season of the series and is also the offspring of Hollywood icon and ex-Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger. Despite being 31 years old, Patrick is determined to carve out his own niche in the industry and distance himself from the stigma of being a "nepo baby". Ashley revealed that despite his reservations, he was advised against changing his famous surname. Amanda chimed in with her take on the matter: "I tell you what I'm not enjoying, I'm not enjoying that whole nepo baby, nepo baby. It's everywhere. It's like the latest craze that the press are using," reports Gloucestershire Live. "For people's children that are actually doing really well off their own backs - and I'm not including mine in this, I'm just saying - do you know what I mean?" Nepo baby (nepotism baby) has become a commonly used term to describe an individual who enjoys success due to familial connections, perhaps as a result of being related to a celebrity. Jamie joined the conversation, suggesting that the label "takes away from their efforts". Ashley contributed by mentioning that Patrick had expressed a deep passion for acting and had dedicated "so much time and so much effort" to perfecting his craft. Amanda quipped: "If you're not talented, it doesn't matter who you're related to, you will not make it." Jamie then said that he could think of a "couple of examples" where the offspring of celebrities might challenge her statement, leading Amanda to press him for names. With a hint of mischief, Jamie suggested "maybe a Beckham", to which Amanda swiftly retorted: "Stop it! I won't have their names sullied on this show." Ashley, sensing they were treading on thin ice, quickly tried to steer the conversation away, proposing they "abort this mission". The Beckham clan has indeed been no stranger to such controversies. In 2024, Cruz Beckham, the third eldest child of David and Victoria, faced criticism after sharing a snippet of his music on Instagram. One commenter insinuated that his success was down to "mega money and training", prompting Cruz to respond with: "Not at all. Just a guitar". Yet, as the scrutiny intensified, he controversially said that "Jesus was also a nepo baby," only to erase the comment within less than half a day. Brooklyn Beckham, the couple's oldest child, has similarly been labelled a 'nepo baby'. In an interview with Grazia, he admitted to his privileged birth but insisted that "couldn't help" how he came into the world. He added: "There's always going to be people that say rubbish. But as long as you do something that makes you happy and you're kind to people, that's all that matters."

Period drama fans have just days to watch 'emotional' film before it's axed
The British biographical drama film stars Felicity Jones, Kristin Scott Thomas, and Tom Hollander A highly praised period drama directed by and featuring Ralph Fiennes is ready to depart from BBC iPlayer soon. The biographic film, The Invisible Woman (2013), is set in the Victorian era and centres around an important cultural figure. Adapted from a 1990 novel bearing the same title, it unfolds the tale of Charles Dickens's clandestine affair with Nelly Ternan, played out over 13 years with a budding young actress. Haunted by memories, an older Nelly, now a teacher and a wife, grapples with her concealed past involving the illustrious author, as flashbacks unravel their complex connection. The movie delves into Charles Dickens's mental landscape, the societal dilemmas presented by their relationship, and Nelly's trials following their separation. It provides insight into the difficulties faced by someone entangled with a renowned personality through the lens of Nelly, as the drama investigates themes of love, individuality, and the ramifications of keeping secrets, reports the Express. Regarding his dual role as actor and director for the piece, Fiennes confessed his initial unfamiliarity with Charles Dickens' body of work to Vulture, stating: "I was ignorant. "I had only read Little Dorrit. I knew his obvious ones - Nicholas Nickleby, Oliver Twist, Great Expectations - through adaptations. And Christmas Carol. I didn't know much about the man." Nevertheless, Fiennes's portrayal earned widespread acclaim, with many reviews commending his and Felicity Jones's acting prowess. The film has garnered a positive consensus on Rotten Tomatoes, where it boasts a rating of 76%, reflecting the viewers' commendations. Critics have praised the film, with one saying: "This is everything a period drama almost never is: underplayed, witty, poignant and, above all, real". Another reviewer simply put: "Beautiful to watch. Acting perfect. Based on truth". Other viewers have also shared their thoughts, with one commenting: "This is a slow and emotional watch, ideal for fans of period drama. I found it quite engrossing and intriguing to get to know Charles' love interest at the time its set." The cast's performances have also been commended, with one viewer noting: "The cast do well giving good performances and the dialogue was quite thoughtful at times, although at other times it's more a case of what isn't said, than what is. "And indeed I enjoyed the dialogue-free scenes as they had an almost dream-like quality to them and allowed the viewer to contemplate what the characters on screen may be thinking." Upon its release in 2013, The Invisible Woman was not only well-received by critics but also achieved box office success, grossing £2,380,130.78 worldwide. The Invisible Woman (2013) will no longer be available on BBC iPlayer after June 7.
