'We're beyond this sort of hypersensitive woke time in the United States of America, maybe we're going back to the point where an ad about jeans is just an ad about jeans and not about politics.'

In his words, it was images of emaciated children in Gaza that Trump saw on television -- his main window into the world that has long shaped his political and diplomatic decision-making.
