Laulala came up through the ranks at Canterbury and made his Super Rugby debut for the Crusaders before stints with the Chiefs and the Blues.Following the 2023 World Cup, he moved to Toulouse, but his time in the Top 14 was cut short due to his injury. He has spent the last three months at Gloucester regaining fitness."I'm really grateful to George and everybody at Gloucester for welcoming me to Kingsholm after going through a pretty rough time in France," Laulala said."It was a scary time not knowing where my future lay, but I'm looking forward to repaying everybody here for the faith they've put in me."I've heard great things about Gloucester and the Cherry and White fans, and I can't wait to get out there and play in front of them."

Celtic v Kairat: Rodgers names starting team for Champions League play-off
Brendan Rodgers has named his starting line-up as Celtic prepare to take on Kairat in the first leg of their Champions League play-off. The Kazakh side are in Glasgow to take on the Hoops for a place in Europe's top competition. Celtic have started the season well with three wins from their opening games of the campaign. The Scottish champions have defeated St Mirren and Aberdeen in the Premiership and Falkirk in the League Cup, scoring seven goals and only conceding one in the process. However, Kairat will represent their biggest test yet and they will be wanting a healthy lead to take to the away leg which will see them travel further east than Afghanistan. In addition to the prestige of Champions League football, they will earn around £50m if they reach the lucrative eight-game league phase of the tournament. Celtic got past the league phase last season as they reached the knockout phase of the competition for the first time in 12 years. And they will be aiming to reach at least as far again this campaign, but first they will have to get past Kairat, and a good home performance could be vital to their chances. Rodgers has started with Kasper Schmiechel in goals behind a back four of Alistair Johnston, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Liam Scales, and Kieran Tierney. Captain Callum McGregor anchors a three-man midfield alongside Reo Hatate and Benjamin Nygren with James Forrest and Daizen Maeda either side of Adam Idah up front. Rangers transfer latest as club go in desperate search for striker as Russell Martin's loan strategy backfires early
RANGERS fans were dreaming of how their club would spend the £40million they could bank for qualifying for the Champions League. But after being easily defeated in the first leg of their play-off round tie against Club Brugge, the questions now are on who they've already brought in and how quickly they can add almost ANYONE else. 6 Russell Martin knows he has work to do to turn things around at Rangers The Light Blues lost 3-1 to the Belgians at Ibrox on Tuesday night following a calamitous start to the game in which they found themselves 2-0 down within seven minutes. Russell Martin remains confident his side can turn it around in the return leg but even in the event of that miracle, many fans are convinced the squad as it stands are far from capable of challenging Celtic in the Premiership or indeed anyone of decent calibre in the Champions League. Here, SunSport's David Friel talks to Ryan Rowe about how the rest of the transfer window could look for Rangers - particularly given the fact they have missed out on one of their top striker targets. Striker search Dor Turgeman has been heavily linked with Rangers for some time but the Israeli star is on his way to New England Revolution Danilo started the summer as the third choice striker. We have spoken in numerous videos, numerous transfer shows about this being his chance to shine because he is the only one who has been fit right throughout. 6 Dor Turgeman WON'T be joining Rangers - but who will? Credit: Alamy What we're saying is take your chance, stake the claim, make that jersey your own. Now he scored last night, it was his first goal in a long time for Rangers competitively and Martin made a point of talking him up after the game. But I didn't really see it. to be honest with you Ryan. I thought he was OK at times. I think a Rangers striker has to do more. And if you're asking me on the basis of what Danilo has shown so far this season, is he ahead of Cyriel Desslers when fit? No. Is he ahead of Hamza Igamane when fit? No. So I think Russell Martin is trying to give him more confidence. Maybe he is, he's had injury problems, maybe he is a bit short of confidence. And the goal last night probably will do him all the good in a sense. Rangers fans should NEVER have walked out on their team despite Brugge battering However, I think Rangers still need much more from a guy who has played for big clubs, who cost a lot of money and who has been given a chance, a prolonged chance now really, to go and show what he can do. And I don't think he's done it. Will Rangers still consider selling Igamane and Dessers? I don't think Dessers will go now. I know AEK Athens didn't get close in terms of a fee to what Rangers wanted for him, but just even personally, I know Dessers came from Serie A, came for a lot of money, I dare say he's on a decent wage. I think Dessers will stay now. 6 Have we seen the last of Hamza Igamane and Cyriel Dessers at Rangers? Credit: Willie Vass Igamane, well it just never goes away, doesn't it? There was talk the other day of Lille coming in with an initial loan with an obligation to buy down the line, which is quite common these days. I don't think it's anything Rangers will entertain. Something about this just still tells me that Hamza Igamane, come the end of the window, not be a Rangers player. I just think there's so much noise. He's not been fit and I think you could tell… Yeah, he's not done himself any favours perhaps, it's been a distracting time. He is a player who, again, last season it took him a little while to get up to speed. I think this summer he was delayed coming back. I don't think that ever helps. Rangers probably missed a really sharp Igamane last night, because he is capable of doing something a little bit different. You know, even when he came on, you could see little flashes. Where does it leave him? I don't think Dessers will go. I still think there's a fair chance Igamane might go. And if one does go, essentially Rangers need to sign a striker. I still think they'll be scouring the market. Can they bring in another one? If all three stay, would you be able to operate with four out-and-out strikers? I'm not so sure. Maybe a younger one? But I do think Rangers will still be looking at potential options in the eventuality that one of them does go. The loan Rangers Three of the four who started in defence for Rangers against Brugge were loan players - is this strategy already proving a mistake? I don't want to contradict myself, because I've been pretty consistent over the summer and the show is talking about. I don't mind loan moves. 6 Max Aarons downbeat after the full-time whistle against Club Brugge I've always said you need to get the best short-term player you can get in, while also having an eye on the long-term. But I do take on board, and it was getting pointed out last night, that five defenders played for Rangers last night: James Tavernier's out of contract at the end of the season, John Souttar's out of contract at the end of the season, Max Aarons is a loan, Jayden Meghoma is a loan, and Nasser Djiga is a loan. Now that's not great for forward planning. I can understand why people are starting to say, well, this is just kicking the can down the road. You need a solid defence. You need to build from the back. That's always what's been said, or always what is said when people are building teams. And it looks very short-term. I just wonder whether there's another centre-half to come in now. I think I gave Djiga the kiss of death because I talked him up and talked to him about how he was a defender and never got into trouble. Then he got a red card and then he wasn't great at certain times in other games. And then last night, obviously, the mix-up with Jack Butland. And I definitely think that with Ridvan Yilmaz and Jefte completely out of the picture Rangers need another left-back, surely. We've seen that the Max Aarons experiment at left-back doesn't work but are you going to just operate with, essentially, a 19-year-old in Meghoma? Who, by all accounts, is a very good player, very promising. That's a lot to ask, given the amount of games Rangers are going to be playing this season. You can't just blame the defence. It's part of a team structure, but Rangers give up a lot of chances. I do wonder whether Martin looks at the loan market, I suppose, if you're not going to get the cash there to go and spend. The forgotten man In theory, Rangers do already have an experienced defender who can play at left-back as well as centre-back... I would never say never in terms of Ben Davies coming back to feature under Russell Martin, but he's so far out of the picture. 6 Ben Davies spent last season on loan at Birmingham City Credit: Alamy I genuinely, and I mean this, I'd forgotten about him until a story came up the other day about QPR and Oxford looking at him. I mean, Kieran Dowell, he was at Birmingham last season as well as Davies on loan but Dowell has been playing, been in and out of the team, but he's been part of things. Ben Davies just hasn't. So you start to wonder, where is he? Rangers are clearly short on options there because we're ruling guys out. So I can only see it in one way, that Ben Davies is allowed to leave, whether it's permanently, whether it's on loan. He's a guy that came from Liverpool and will be on very, very good wages. So he's more than entitled to say, well if I'm going to go I want X amount of money, just as Robin Propper did. Has the ship sailed on Scottish signings? Barry Ferguson said if he got the Rangers job he'd have had a Scottish-based focus for his first transfer window. Have Rangers now missed that boat with the Premiership season underway in earnest? The two that immediately sprung to mind were Josh Mulligan and Lawrence Shankland. I don't think you need to be a rocket scientist to know that they were two players that Rangers were keen on if the interim management team had been given the permanent deals. I think a Scottish core is something that Rangers lack, badly. I think if you look at all the best teams in their own nations, the vast majority have a homegrown core throughout the squad. Now Rangers do have John Souttar, Lyall Cameron and Connor Barron but they need more. And only one is a regular starter. I also think as well as helping foreign guys bed in and understand the club and the expectations, standards, all that sort of stuff, I think it also gives hope to the younger ones coming through. Young Bailey Rice, a player with great promise it's good to see him get a chance. But others like Leon King and guys like that have just kind of fallen by the wayside. Others have left this summer, Robbie Fraser went to Dunfermline for example. You just look at it, I don't see many options out here out there just now for Rangers to go and sign Scots between now and the end of the window. But I think long term it has to be a real part of the strategy. I get that we're in a cosmopolitan game now, it's a global game. There's always going to be a probability the majority of players at big clubs aren't going to be from your home country. But you only need to look across the city and Celtic have: Callum McGregor, James Forrest, Luke McCowan, Kieran Tierney. Greg Taylor's just left. Celtic have always kind of had that Scottish core and I think it is important. It's something that Russell Martin needs to start identifying for Rangers to get the best local talent because they will give you absolutely everything. They will understand it more and I think down the line with Rangers next couple of windows, they have to start looking at that. 6 Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page
