Philly's Wells Fargo Center to be rebranded the Xfinity Mobile Arena

Axios06-05-2025
The Wells Fargo Center will get rebranded as Xfinity Mobile Arena this fall.
Why it matters: Sixers and Flyers fans have walked under the South Philly arena's yellow-and-red logo since 2010. But the new splash of purple will also bring big changes.
Driving the news: Philly's media and tech giant Comcast Corp. — which operates Xfinity as its residential cable, internet and telephone business — will own the naming rights to the arena starting Sept. 1.
The deal, announced Tuesday, runs through the 2030-31 season.
Crews will start removing Wells Fargo signs this summer.
💵 A Spectacor spokesperson declined to reveal how much Comcast Corp. is paying for the naming rights.
The intrigue: Xfinity also holds the naming rights to the popular sports bar in the stadium complex, Xfinity Live!, which is in the midst of its own redesign.
🛜 What to expect: As part of the deal, Xfinity Mobile will offer new WiFi capabilities to the arena, which Xfinity customers can use for free.
That includes accessing the company's WiFi PowerBoost feature.
The Xfinity name will also be splashed across the arena's roof.
Catch up quick: The deal comes after arena owner Comcast Spectacor, the company's sports and entertainment arm, buried the hatchet with Sixers owner Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment following years of acrimony.
The pair announced plans in January to replace the arena by 2031 — a pivot for the 76ers owner following a yearslong push to build a new arena in Center City.
Comcast will also own the naming rights to the new South Philly arena, per Spectacor and Harris Entertainment.

Sixers star Joel Embiid ranked No. 17 center in history of the NBA

Philadelphia 76ers big man Joel Embiid has gone through a lot in his NBA career. The 2023 MVP winner has just been unable to avoid the injury bug as he continues to fight to be in the best shape possible every year to lead the Sixers on a deep run like they expect every year. The 2024-25 season was a challenging one for everybody, but none more so than Embiid. The big fella was hampered by a bothersome left knee injury and he was limited to only 19 games. He underwent surgery in April--the second one he's had in a span of 14 months--and he is looking to get back for the 2025-26 season. With that being said, when he's right, he's easily one of the top 3 players in the game. HoopsHype put together a list of the top 20 centers in the history of the NBA and ranked Embiid at No. 17: When ready to go, he's one of the most unstoppable big men ever, thanks to his massive frame, mobilit,y and deep bag. The problem with him is that he doesn't play that many minutes, considering he misses a lot of time due to health reasons regularly. Plus, his track record in the playoffs is spotty as well. If he manages to stay in shape and healthy and gets the Sixers to make deep runs in the postseason, he could move up in this ranking. Embiid is one healthy playoff run away from moving into the pantheon of greatness. The big fella can do so many different things on the offensive end as he is a legitimate 3-level scorer and is evolving as a playmaker. He is one of the best players this league has ever seen regardless of position. He has just had an unfortunate history of injuries.

Trackhouse Opens up on Connor Zilisch's Chances of Racing Return After Scary Fall

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Trackhouse Racing owner Justin Marks has opened up about the timeline for Connor Zilisch's return to NASCAR after the injury he suffered while celebrating his Xfinity Series race win at Watkins Glen International. Zilisch tried to climb on top of his car to celebrate his victory, but he lost his balance and fell hard. The 19-year-old driver was rushed to the medical center, where he was diagnosed with a broken collarbone, which meant he would be absent from the Cup Series race for Trackhouse the following day. With the next weekend being an off-weekend for the Xfinity Series, it will offer Zilisch enough time to recover. However, it remains to be seen if he will be race-ready for the following race weekend. Speaking on the topic of when the young driver would return, Marks suggested that the matter isn't simple, as it warrants discussions with several parties while ensuring Zilisch receives the care and motivation to bounce back stronger. He said: "I think it's a discussion that we all have to have. We haven't really talked about much, obviously, since yesterday, but in the little bit that we've discussed in some of the quiet moments over the last 24 hours, it's going to have to be a group decision. More"It's going to have to be sponsors, Chevrolet, the team, taking care of his development, taking care of him as a human and as an athlete, and then keeping his motivations high and making sure he knows he's got a group of people behind him that are supportive of him." Zilisch gave a detailed account of the events that led to his fall. He said: "I was climbing out of the car, and obviously the window net was on the door and as soon as they started spraying water, my foot slipped and the last thing I remember was being halfway down and falling. So glad it wasn't any worse and that the collarbone the extent of the injuries, but I hate I couldn't make it to the race today and give myself a shot to get a good result for Trackhouse and Red Bull." Zilisch has been having a spectacular Xfinity season so far, securing five wins in the last eight races. He currently leads the points standings in his rookie year. However, with his racing return date still not confirmed, it remains to be seen if he will be ready to race in the Wawa 250 at Daytona International Speedway on August 22.
