Enterprise Ireland names Jenny Melia as new CEO
Enterprise Ireland has appointed Jenny Melia as its new chief executive officer (designate).
Ms Melia, who has worked in the state agency for 29 years, is currently an Executive Director of Enterprise Ireland, which includes the role of Chief Client Officer.
She will take up her new role as CEO in July and will replace interim CEO Kevin Sherry.
Ms Melia has held a number of senior leadership roles across the organisation throughout her career and has worked extensively with client companies of varying scales from all sectors, including food, industrial and technology, and has also worked with the High Potential Start-Up (HPSU) Division, and the Research and Innovation team.
Enterprise, Tourism and Employment Minister Peter Burke said that Ms Melia is a dedicated public servant, who has spent much of her career supporting and fostering the development of the Irish enterprise base through her impressive tenure with Enterprise Ireland, which spans almost three decades.
"I am looking forward to working with Jenny and her leadership team, as this Government continues to focus on supporting Irish exporters and indigenous SMEs," Mr Burke said.
"Irish-owned enterprises are critical to our economy, and we are committed to supporting this sector to continue to be agile, and to grow and scale both domestically and in international markets," he added.
Michael Carey, Chairman of Enterprise Ireland, said the new CEO has an outstanding track record of providing clear vision and strategic leadership within the organisation, has established deep relationships working collaboratively with key stakeholders from across the ecosystem, and has worked extensively and directly with our client companies.
"Enterprise Ireland has successfully helped Irish enterprise to scale and grow enormously in recent years, with our client base now employing and exporting at record levels, and Jenny has played a pivotal role in this success," Mr Carey said.
"She will bring this vast experience and leadership to her new role, and we look forward to working with her to achieve our long-term ambition, that exporting Irish companies will become the primary driver of the Irish economy," he added.
Mr Carey also thanked Kevin Sherry for his leadership as interim CEO, adding that Kevin, who will return to his position as Executive Director in July, demonstrated an exceptional level of commitment as he filled this role in recent months.
Employment at companies supported by Enterprise Ireland rose to a record 234,454 earlier this year, and the organisation's new strategy sets out a number of ambitious targets for the Irish enterprise base, including plans to increase exports to €50 billion by 2029.

Munster hurling final ticket update as provincial council provide timeline
The Munster council are expecting Saturday's mouth-watering senior hurling final between Cork and Limerick at the TUS Gaelic Grounds to be a sellout. John Kiely's Treaty side beat Cork to finish top in the round robin phase but both counties ended with a remarkably similar record - won two, drew one and lost one each. Pat Ryan is hoping to lead the Rebels to a first provincial title since 2018 while Limerick are going for their seventh Munster title in a row. It is one of the great days in the Irish sport calendar and there is still a prospect of some tickets being returned for general sale. That will only happen if clubs do not take up the full allocation they were given in the two counties. However, a Munster council source does not expect that to happen, given the excitement and demand around the game. Tickets for the Munster hurling showpiece are still with the counties so the council can't say if it is a sellout until Thursday when any leftover tickets are due to be returned. The TUS Gaelic Grounds in Limerick has a capacity of 44,023. While it was previously expanded to 49,866 in 2004, subsequent renovations and safety regulations have limited the official capacity to 44,023.

Connacht appoint Stuart Lancaster as head coach
CONNACHT HAVE APPOINTED Stuart Lancaster as the province's new head coach on a two-year deal. The coaching coup sees Lancaster, 55, return to Irish rugby having previously spent seven years at Leinster, where he helped the province to a Champions Cup title as well as a Pro14 four-in-a-row. Lancaster, who coached England at the 2015 Rugby World Cup, was most recently the director of rugby at Racing 92 in France's Top 14 before parting company with the Parisian giants in February. He will take charge out west ahead of pre-season training in July, and will take responsibility for Connacht's defence as well as his overall head coaching role. The appointment completes Connacht's coaching ticket, which also includes the incoming Rod Seib as attack coach, Cullie Tucker as scrum and contact coach, and John Muldoon as lineout and maul coach. 'I'm hugely excited to be joining Connacht Rugby and begin this new chapter of my life in the West of Ireland with my wife Nina,' Lancaster said on Tuesday.
