CNG demand in India may grow along with EV adoption, despite policy pressure: Report

New Delhi: Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) could continue to grow as an auto fuel in India, even as electric vehicle (EV) adoption gathers pace across key states, according to a recent report by Nomura.
The report highlighted that state governments, especially Delhi and Mumbai, are expected to roll out aggressive EV policies to address the problem of rising air pollution. While this could put some pressure on the growth of CNG, analysts believe both fuel types could still co-exist in the coming years.
It stated, "CNG as an auto fuel could grow alongside EVs.... EV policies by states to continue pressuring CNG growth."
The report added that Delhi, which had already banned diesel vehicles older than 10 years nearly a decade ago, may now consider placing restrictions on CNG vehicles as a next step in its clean fuel transition.
The state is seen to be intensifying its focus on cleaner mobility solutions to tackle worsening air quality.
In contrast, Mumbai, being a coastal city, usually records better air quality index (AQI) levels. In the short term, the EV policy focus in Mumbai could shift more towards reducing the use of liquid fuels like petrol and diesel, rather than targeting CNG.
The report noted that this could work as a policy tailwind for both CNG and EV adoption in Mumbai.
Further, the report mentioned that the ongoing High Court-monitored committee on EV adoption in Maharashtra includes participation from Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL), a key supplier of CNG in the region.
During its recent investor day, MGL's management expressed confidence that CNG could benefit under the state's upcoming EV policy. The company sees potential in policies that promote a multi-fuel transition instead of focusing only on electric vehicles.
The report also pointed out another key development that could benefit gas suppliers, the possible inclusion of natural gas under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime.
Currently, natural gas is subject to a combination of state VAT, central excise duty, and central sales tax. Moving it under GST would simplify the tax structure by eliminating these cascading taxes and potentially lowering the overall tax burden for businesses.

Reliance Aerostructure, Dassault to manufacture Falcon 2000 jets in India for global market

New Delhi: Reliance Infrastructure Ltd subsidiary, Reliance Aerostructure Limited (RAL) and French manufacturer Dassault Aviation have announced an agreement to manufacture Falcon 2000 LXS Business Executive Jets in India for the Global Market. The development is particularly significant since the French manufacturer will be manufacturing Falcon 2000 jets outside France for the time time, an indication of India's increased importance in the global aviation manufacturing. Dassault Aviation, in a press statement, said that this is an epic moment for India as it joins the elite club of countries manufacturing next-generation business jets after the United States, France, Canada and Brazil. DRAL will be the first Centre of Excellence (CoE) outside of France for Dassault Aviation's Falcon series, including the Falcon 6X and Falcon 8X programs. Eric Trappier, Chairman and CEO, Dassault Aviation said: "This new agreement, which will make DRAL the first centre of excellence for Falcon assembly outside France and which will eventually enable the establishment of a final assembly line for the Falcon 2000, illustrates, once again, our firm intent to meet our 'Make in India' commitments, and to contribute to the recognition of India as a major partner in the global aerospace supply chain. It marks the ramp-up of DRAL, in line with the strategic vision shared with our partner Reliance, which led to its creation in 2017 and is a testament to our unwavering belief in our future in India and serving India." Anil D Ambani, Founder Chairman, Reliance Group said, "This collaboration reflects our commitment to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's vision of 'Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self Reliant India)' and 'Make in India for the World'. Our partnership with Dassault Aviation for manufacturing of Falcon Business Jets in India is a defining moment for the country, Aviation Industry and the Reliance Group. This will help position India as a key force in the global aerospace value chain." The release states that by 2028, the first flight of the "Made in India" Falcon 2000 will take place from the DRAL Facility at MIHAN, Nagpur in the Western State of Maharashtra, India, following the transfer of full fuselage and wing assembly operations and significant facility enhancements. As part of the agreement, Dassault will also transfer the assembly of the front section of Falcon 8X and Falcon 6X, in addition to the wings and complete fuselage assembly of the Falcon 2000 to DRAL. "This landmark initiative will see India emerge as a strategic center for high-end business jet manufacturing, underscoring the nation's growing prominence in the global aerospace ecosystem. The new final assembly line will cater to rising demand in India and other international markets," the release added. In 2017, Dassault Aviation and Reliance Aerostructure formed a joint venture called DRAL. Later that year, a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility was established in Mihan, Nagpur, marking the start of operations. DRAL has constructed more than 100 key subsections for the Falcon 2000 since delivering its first Falcon 2000 front section in 2019, demonstrating its superior precision manufacturing skills and contributing significantly to the Falcon global production program. As per the release, DRAL is expected to recruit several hundred engineers and technicians over the next decade to support its expanding operations. "This growth underscores Dassault Aviation's deep commitment to strengthening India's aerospace manufacturing ecosystem and advancing the nation's emergence as a global center of excellence for high-precision aviation production," the release added. Dassault Aviation has established a reputation for excellence in the design, manufacture, marketing, and maintenance of all kinds of aircraft, from the Rafale fighter to the premium Falcon family of business jets, military drones, and space systems. Over the past century, the company has delivered over 10,000 military and commercial aircraft, including 2,700 Falcons, in more than 90 countries. Dassault Aviation reported EUR6.2 billion in revenue in 2024. The corporation employs 14,600 people.

Indian Rupee likely to trade between 85.25-86.25/USD in near term: Bank of Baroda Report

New Delhi: The Indian rupee is expected to trade in the range of 85.25 to 86.25 against the US dollar in the near term, according to a report by Bank of Baroda. The report also warned that there are risks to the rupee's stability due to rising geopolitical tensions and possible changes in US tariffs. It stated, "We expect INR to trade in the range of 85.25-86.25/USD in the near-term. Risks remain from a significant escalation in geo-political tensions". The report highlighted that the rupee has depreciated by 0.6 per cent in June 2025 so far, adding to a 1.3 per cent decline in May 2025. Much of the pressure on the rupee came in the second week of June, especially after reports of a conflict between Israel and Iran. Before this, the rupee was trading in a narrow range between 85.39 and 85.63 from June 2 to June 12. However, after news of Israel's attack on Iran came out, the rupee fell sharply by 0.6 per cent on June 13. This was the biggest one-day fall for the rupee in a month. Since then, the rupee has stabilised but is still trading above the 86 per dollar mark. The report also noted that global currencies gained in June 2025, mainly because the US dollar weakened. The dollar index (DXY) dropped by 1.3 per cent. This happened as US economic data, such as inflation and labour market reports, showed that price pressures in the economy remain under control. The labour market data, however, showed mixed trends. Due to these factors, investors are expecting the US Federal Reserve to cut interest rates later this year. The chances of a rate cut in September 2025 have increased to around 60 per cent, up from about 50 per cent a month ago. Despite the global uncertainty, the Indian rupee has remained mostly stable. This is in line with the trend seen in other global currencies, which also saw a brief fall but later recovered. Going forward, the rupee may face some volatility due to global headwinds and the approaching end of the US tariff pause.
