Drop in school children vaping since Australian ban: study
The Generation Vape Research Project by Cancer Council reported that vaping among 14-17 year olds decreased from 17.5 per cent to 14 per cent between early 2023 and April this year.
The government's 12-month campaign against illegal vape sales has resulted in the seizure of over 10 million illicit vapes, valued at half a billion dollars, in the past year.
Although some vapes continue to enter the country, the ban has made disposable vapes more difficult to acquire and substantially increased their price, positively influencing young people.
The ban aims to counter the targeting of children by the vape market and disrupt profits for organised crime, with the UK also implementing a similar ban on disposable vapes.

Attempted murder charge after man found slashed in Preston

Elderly couple, 83 and 77, die in 'sickening' arson attack on their home as police launch murder investigation
An elderly couple have died in an 'absolutely sickening' arson attack on their home as police launch a murder probe. Emergency services rushed to the scene on South John Street in St Helens at around 12.40am on Tuesday following reports of a house fire. The end-terrace home was ablaze when firefighters arrived to rescue the pair who were rushed to hospital. But Merseyside Police have now confirmed Peter Eric Greener, 77, died on Wednesday, July 16, and his partner, Sheila Jackson, 83, died this morning. And a joint investigation with Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service has found an accelerant was used to start the fire maliciously. Neighbours have explained how the door was ablaze, preventing fire crews from initially rescuing the couple. Gavin Thelwell, who lives on the same terrace, said: 'When I came out of my house, there were fire engines that had already arrived, but the front door was on fire, which was stopping the firefighters from getting inside. 'They had to put that out before they managed to get them out of the house.' He continued: 'I feel so sorry for them; they're good people. I chat with them all the time. He's usually walking down with his walking frame to go to the pub, and he'll stop halfway by the street sign to have a break. 'They were always really nice; I just can't believe this has happened. It's so bad.' Detective chief inspector Steve McGrath, who is leading the investigation, said: 'Firstly, I want to express my condolences to the family of Mr Greener and Ms Jackson as this tragic time and we have specialist officers in place to support them. 'This is a truly shocking incident and I'm sure that the community and everyone in Merseyside will be utterly appalled at what has happened. 'It's difficult to comprehend how someone could deliberately start a fire while two elderly people are inside the home. It's absolutely sickening, and we are determined to find the person or people responsible. 'An investigation is ongoing as we look to establish exactly why this has happened and we are appealing for anyone with information to come forward. 'If you live in this community and saw or heard something suspicious at any point during this evening, please let us know as a matter of urgency. 'Also, if you have CCTV or a smart doorbell, take the time to review any footage you have to see if you captured anything that could prove to be significant. Even if it appears to be a small detail, it could end up being vital to our inquiries. 'I would also ask that any drivers who have dashcam footage and were in the area of South John Street and Parr Street between midnight and 1am to contact us if you have captured anything significant.'

Jutyar Jelal Salah jailed for possessing illegal cigarettes
A former shopkeeper has been jailed for 22 months after being convicted of possessing more than 77,000 illegal cigarettes and 16kg (2st 5lb) of hand rolling Jelal Salah was "caught red-handed" by Trading Standards retrieving contraband cigarettes from a container, which he planned to sell via a home delivery 36-year-old owned Easy Shop on Station Street in Spalding, which, according to Lincolnshire County Council, was served with two closure orders in September 2023 and April 2024 after raids uncovered illegal was sentenced at Lincoln Crown Court on Friday.
