Lee County: Three men indicted and charged under Criminal Enterprise Act
LEE COUNTY, Ala. () — Three men in Lee County are being indicted for discharging a weapon into an occupied building or vehicle, with enhanced charges under Alabama's Criminal Enterprise Act.
In a release sent by the Lee County Sheriff's Office, Jamaroun Dayshun Satterwhite, Demarious Ross, and Timothy Bell each face four felony counts originating from their alleged involvement in the crime.
The three men are each charged with:
Two counts of shooting or discharging a weapon into an occupied building or automobile
Two counts of possession, use, or carrying of a firearm
This investigation was a collaboration between the Attorney General's Office, the Lee County Sheriff's Office, and the Lee County District Attorney's Office.
Attorney General Marshall claims the crimes are gang related, thus the need for the enhanced charges under the Criminal Enterprise Act.
'The Alabama Legislature has equipped our state with the tools necessary to directly combat gang activity, and today, we are putting those tools into action. Gang violence is a plague on our communities, and the cure is strong enforcement and tough sentences,' said Attorney General Marshall. 'My office has worked alongside law enforcement to create and enforce the law and secure our communities, and we are committed to holding violent offenders accountable. Let this serve as a warning: if you bring violence to our streets, law enforcement will be there to meet you, and you will face the full force of the law.'
According to the office, each defendant faces up to 99 years if convicted, plus an additional 20 years of mandatory time for firearms possession related to a criminal enterprise.

Authorities have released new details about a Fort Myers homicide, revealing that the suspected killer fired into several occupied apartments June 8. Yanko Romero, 41, of Fort Myers, faces charges of shooting into a building; aggravated assault; second-degree murder; and tampering with evidence. Authorities said that prior to his arrest, Romero was observed discarding a firearm into pond. Officers, during a search of a bag in his possession, found a loaded ammunition magazine and a box containing more rounds. Police determined Romero fired multiple rounds into several occupied apartments. The Lee County Sheriff's Office's Underwater Operations Unit assisted police in their investigation. Assistant State Attorney Sara Miller on June 9 filed a motion for pretrial detention, but a hearing date and time was not set by publication. Megan Fuentes, spokesperson for Fort Myers Police, said they have had four homicides so far this year, two of which they have ruled self-defense. Teen accused of shooting Colombian presidential candidate Miguel Uribe
June 8 (UPI) -- Colombian police have arrested a teenage boy in connection with Saturday's shooting of far-right presidential candidate Miguel Uribe. Uribe, a 39-year-old senator, was shot while he addressed his supporters during a campaign event in a park in Bogotá, the Colombian Attorney General's Office said in a statement Sunday. He was hit twice and remains in intensive care. Two other people were also injured, and police arrested a 15-year-old who was carrying a 9mm Glock pistol. Footage shared on social media appears to show when Uribe was shot, causing his followers to flee in panic. Fundación Santa Fe Bogotá, the hospital where Uribe was airlifted Saturday, said in a statement Sunday that he was admitted to the emergency room in critical condition. "After all the evaluations by various specialties, he was immediately taken to surgery to perform the initial damage control," the hospital said. "Once the neurosurgical and left thigh procedures were completed, he was transferred to intensive care for postoperative stabilization. His condition is of the utmost seriousness and the prognosis is reserved." The government of left-wing President Gustavo Petro, who is term-limited and cannot run for reelection, condemned the attack in a statement and expressed solidarity with Uribe. "The National Government categorically and forcefully rejects the attack that Senator Miguel Uribe Turbay was the victim of in the last few hours," the statement said. "This act of violence is an attack not only against the personal integrity of the senator, but also against democracy, freedom of thought and the legitimate exercise of politics in Colombia." Petro's government called peace, coexistence and respect for differences the "fundamental pillars" of a democratic society. Prosecutors said they were considering the shooting an attack on the "democratic participation" in the country, and Attorney General Luz Adriana Camargo Garzón expressed her alarm at the seriousness of the attack and urged for political unity in the country "to shield the electoral process." She said her office would investigate the shooting with the National Police.
