Fort Myers man accused of homicide also fired into several occupied apartments, police say
Authorities have released new details about a Fort Myers homicide, revealing that the suspected killer fired into several occupied apartments June 8.
Yanko Romero, 41, of Fort Myers, faces charges of shooting into a building; aggravated assault; second-degree murder; and tampering with evidence.
Shortly before 8:50 a.m. June 8, Fort Myers Police officers responded to reports of gunfire at 3000 Oasis Grand Blvd. — the address of the Oasis waterfront high-rise condo tower off Palm Beach Boulevard, east of downtown Fort Myers.
The site is along the Caloosahatchee River.

When officers arrived at a nearby parking lot, they found a 25-year-old man, who suffered from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite first responders' efforts, the victim died on scene.
The victim's identity remained unreleased by publication. Authorities said Romero and the victim did not know each other.
Police said additional officers responded near the WINK News building after they received information that witnesses saw Romero nearby.
Authorities said that prior to his arrest, Romero was observed discarding a firearm into pond. Officers, during a search of a bag in his possession, found a loaded ammunition magazine and a box containing more rounds.
Police determined Romero fired multiple rounds into several occupied apartments.
The Lee County Sheriff's Office's Underwater Operations Unit assisted police in their investigation.
Assistant State Attorney Sara Miller on June 9 filed a motion for pretrial detention, but a hearing date and time was not set by publication.
Megan Fuentes, spokesperson for Fort Myers Police, said they have had four homicides so far this year, two of which they have ruled self-defense.
Police ask that anyone who witnessed or heard the shooting call the police department at 239-321-7700.

Police release name of man killed in weekend shooting in Lansing
LANSING — Police have identified a man killed in a shooting in Lansing on June 8 as Marvin High Jr., 58. The shooting happened about 5:38 p.m. Sunday in the 3300 block of Bardaville Street, off North Grand River Avenue and east of Waverly Road, police said. High, whose name was released by Lansing police on Monday afternoon, was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. No arrests had been made. Police said they did not believe the shooting was a random incident. In a June 9 news release, Lansing Police Public Information Director Jordan Gulkis noted that High's age initially was reported by police as 59. His correct age is 58, she said. A woman has been charged with murdering an 84-year-old man who was found dead in his home. David Berman's body was found after police were called to his home on Butterstile Lane, Prestwich, on 13 March. Politicians accused of Liberia parliament arson bailed
Liberia's former speaker and three other members of the House of Representatives have been released from prison after paying a bond of £325,000 ($440,000). Jonathan Fonati Koffa, Abu Kamara, Dixon Seboe and Jacob Debee were charged over their alleged role in the burning of the Capitol building last December. All four men face several charges, including arson, criminal mischief, attempted murder and other alleged offences. The huge blaze broke out at the parliament building a day after plans to remove Koffa as speaker sparked protests in the capital, Monrovia. Police value the damage at $8.6m. On Friday, Liberian police said there were "credible links" to suggest Koffa was "strategically involved" in the incident. Koffa has previously denied any connection to the fire. Lawmakers Kamara, Seboe and Debee - who are all members of the opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) party - were detained alongside Koffa on Friday in connection with the case. They spent a night in detention at the national police headquarters, before being transferred to the Monrovia Central Prison on Saturday, where they were held for two nights. Representative Priscilla Cooper has also been charged, but was not detained due to ill-health. The court has placed a travel ban on the accused pending the conclusion of the case. The blaze on 18 December last year destroyed the entire joint chambers of the West African nation's legislature. No one was inside the building at the time. The day before had seen tense protests over the plans to remove Koffa, with demonstrators including an aide to former President George Weah arrested. Several individuals, including Koffa and Representative Frank Saah Foko, were brought in for questioning by police. Foko, a prominent figure in the House of Representatives, allegedly uploaded a video to Facebook in which he said: "If they want us to burn the chambers, we will burn it." Liberia's House of Representatives has been beset by a long-running power struggle. Koffa had been locked in a stand-off with his political opponents, with dozens of lawmakers voting for his impeachment last October over accusations of poor governance, corruption and conflicts of interest. Although the bid to impeach him fell short of the two-thirds majority required, the group of 47 lawmakers who had voted for the move unilaterally appointed their own speaker.
