The Boston Celtics are in a strange place as the NBA offseason gets started. Boston has one of the best rosters in the entire league, but due to heavy financial problems, the Celtics are likely to break up the core.
Many insiders around the NBA believe that the Celtics will look to shed salary this summer, and it could cause major hits to the roster. Star center Kristaps Porzingis and guard Jrue Holiday are among the biggest names being talked about, and it could see them both be moved.

Holiday still has three years left on his deal, and due to his age, his contract could be tough to move. But Porzingis may be easier, and the Celtics could elect to move the All-Star big man.
However, according to NBA contributor Evan Sidery of Forbes, there is a thought around the league that Boston will need to increase draft capital to part with Porzingis. The star center is owed $30.7 million next year, but is on an expiring deal.
The prevailing thought among league executives is the Celtics will need to include draft capital in a trade offloading Kristaps Porzingis' $30.7 million expiring contract.

If the Celtics do have to move extra draft capital to move Porzingis, it could limit any potential trades. Even on an expiring deal, Porzingis may be seen as a negative asset.

When he is healthy, Porzingis is among the best centers in the NBA. But his inability to stay on the court has cost the Celtics, and opposing teams could be wary of trading for him.
Last season, Porzingis was limited to jsut 42 games during the regular season. However, Porzingis averaged 19.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.5 blocks per game while shooting 41.2 percent from beyond the 3-point line in those games.

BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS - JUNE 09: Kristaps Porzingis #8 of the Boston Celtics looks on during the first quarter against the Dallas Mavericks in Game Two of the 2024 NBA Finals at TD Garden on June 09, 2024 in Boston, Massachusetts. Porzingis has suffered a major injury in his leg. MoreBut in the playoffs, his availability hindered the Celtics once again. The big man missed time due to a mysterious illness, and he was hardly effective for Boston.
The Celtics likely don't want to give up on Porzingis, but his injury history remains concerning. Boston has to avoid going over the second apron tax line again this season, and it could cause a star like Porzingis to be traded.

Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. For the first time since Shohei Ohtani put on a Los Angeles Dodgers uniform, it finally feels like his return to pitching is close. On Tuesday, Ohtani took a major step in his recovery, throwing a three inning simulated game against minor leaguers at Petco Park ahead of the Dodgers' second game of their series against the San Diego Padres. More news: Phillies' $172 Million All-Star Suffers Brutal Setback as Nightmare Season Continues Ohtani threw 44 pitches, generating 15 whiffs and six strikeouts. He looked really sharp, impressing both Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and pitching coach Mark Prior. After the session, Roberts spoke to reporters, and provided a new optimistic timeline on Ohtani's return to the mound. Roberts said there was a "north of zero" chance Ohtani makes his 2025 pitching debut before the All-Star break. Before Tuesday, the Dodgers have intimated Ohtani won't pitch until after the All-Star break at the earliest. Now, it sounds like he could be back by early July if things continue to trend in the right direction. Indiana Fever Make Caitlin Clark WNBA All-Star Announcement on Tuesday

Indiana Fever Make Caitlin Clark WNBA All-Star Announcement on Tuesday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. After winning their last two games without All-WNBA guard Caitlin Clark, the Indiana Fever have jumped to 4-4 on the young 2025 WNBA season. Advertisement On Tuesday, the Fever will be without Clark for a fifth straight game, taking on Brittney Griner and the Atlanta Dream. In Indiana's fourth game of the season, a narrow 90-88 loss to the New York Liberty, Clark suffered a left quad strain that has left her out for over two weeks. Still, the former Iowa Hawkeyes guard is averaging 19.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 9.3 assists per game. Despite missing half of the Fever's games, Indiana announced just hours before Tuesday's matchup that fans can vote for Clark to make her second WNBA All-Star appearance, along with Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston. "⭐️ WNBA All-Star Voting June 12-28 ⭐️," the Fever wrote on X. "mark your calendars & set your alarms 🗳️ vote Aliyah Boston, Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell into the @WNBA All-Star game starting Thursday at 2 p.m.!" The 2025 WNBA All-Star Game will take place at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, home of the Fever, on Saturday, July 19, at 8:30 p.m. ET. Voting will begin on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. ET and end on Saturday, June 28, at 11:59 p.m. ET. Advertisement This year, fans will account for 50% of the All-Star voting, while players count for 25% and the media counts for the last 25%. The four guards and six frontcourt players who tally the most votes will earn starting spots. The two players with the most votes will be named captains of their team and will select the final 12 reserve spots. MLB's No. 1 prospect, Roman Anthony, collects first hit, a two-run double

Roman Anthony wasted little time collecting his first major-league hit. The No. 1 prospect in baseball hit a two-run double to left in his first at-bat on Tuesday to give the Boston Red Sox a 2-0 lead over the Tampa Bay Rays. Anthony came to the plate in the bottom of the first with two on and two out against Tampa Bay Rays starter Ryan Pepiot and fell behind 0-2. He took a ball with the next pitch then sliced a changeup outside the zone to left field. His family was in attendance to witness his first hit, and as is customary, the ball was saved. A proud Anthony family moment. 😊 — Red Sox (@RedSox) June 10, 2025 Anthony debuted on Monday, going 0-for-4 with a walk and an RBI groundout.
