Alex Jones slams big Hollywood One Show guest she thought was 'full of himself'
Alex Jones has revealed which The One Show guest she didn't take to one bit.
The Welsh TV star, 48, first joined the BBC One magazine program in 2010 and has interviewed a number of big names in that time.
Reflecting on her standout moments in a new interview, she admitted that speaking to British homegrown talent tends to appeal more to her than huge movie stars.
"You know, we've had people on that are big Hollywood stars. I mean, last week we had Robert De Niro and, he was lovely, but he was lovely afterwards,' she told the Netmums Podcast.
The mum-of-three then singled out Jared Leto as having been the total opposite of De Niro when she sat down with him three years ago.
"He was there in sort of dressed as one of the Three Musketeers and he had all this, like, I don't know, Gucci, big shirt, sleeves billowing. I mean, he was so full of himself,' she recalled.
"And I thought, no, no, no, no. Our audience are nice people and, they deserve better than this. And, okay, you might be like a huge celebrity star and, you know, you've done all these films, but there's. It doesn't cost to be polite and nice. Anybody who can't bring those simple skills to the table, I'm out. I'm like, no, sorry, you've not been brought up well, then."
It's not the first time that she has made her feelings known about Leto.
She previously described him as her 'worst guest' while appearing on Josh Widdicombe and Rob Beckett's Parenting Hell podcast in 2023.
Asked by the hosts whether he had been "hard work", she groaned: "He was dressed in Gucci and whatever and just so dismissive. He put himself on like a different plane to everybody else. I just can't bear people like that."
Widdicombe and Beckett were in hysterics after seeing a picture.
"Oh my word, look what he's wearing!" [He's] dressed like a musketeer or something!" exclaimed Widdicombe.
"He looks like a Shakespearean actor. Oh, he looks hard work,' agreed Beckett.
Concurring, Jones said: "I don't know whether I referenced musketeer early on and then from there it was a sharp downhill. With some people, you cannot warm them up for love or money, he was one of them."
The 2022 interview got off to an awkward start after Jones made a comment about Leto wearing clothing similar to her own.
"Oh my goodness, look, you got the memo, the frilly shirt, I like it, yes." she said upon greeting him, but his enthusiasm failed to match her own.
Things got even more uncomfortable when she admitted she thought sci-fi movie Morbius, which he was promoting at the time, might be too "scary" for her young son to watch.
Attempting to move things along, she then mentioned his Apple TV+ series WeCrashed, which is based on WeWork's founder, remarking: "Now on paper, it doesn't sound the most exciting, but this guy you play is really extreme, isn't he? How would you sum him up?".
Leto - who won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in Dallas Buyers Club in 2014 - was not having any of it, hitting back: 'Hold on, hold on, first Morbius is too scary, and now WeCrashed is too boring?".
Thinking fast, she challenged him to 'prove' her wrong, to which he replied: "I will prove you wrong. You watch them, and I guarantee one thing, you will definitely not be bored."

In a report published by Air Mail on Saturday, June 7, multiple women alleged that the "Suicide Squad" actor, 53, behaved inappropriately with them when they were teenagers. A representative for Leto told Air Mail that "all of the allegations are expressly denied." The representative also denied an earlier allegation from Allie Teilz, a DJ who posted last month in a since-expired Instagram Story that she was "assaulted and traumatized" by Leto when she was 17, according to Air Mail. One woman, model Laura La Rue, told Air Mail that in 2008, the actor approached her at a benefit in California and asked her how old she was. When she said she was 16, La Rue alleged Leto, then 36, still asked for her number. She said she was living in Ojai, California, at the time but that they began emailing and that she eventually went to visit him in Los Angeles in 2009. "I remember him teasing me the whole time I was there," she said. "He was flirting with me. He'd lean in close, then pull away, like it was a game." La Rue said she continued visiting Leto sporadically and claimed that on one occasion, when she was 17, he walked out of a room completely nude. A representative for Leto told Air Mail that the actor's communications with La Rue "contain nothing sexual or inappropriate," adding that "Ms. La Rue later applied to work as Mr. Leto's personal assistant, further underscoring the absence of anything inappropriate in any of their interactions." La Rue told Air Mail she did not apply to work as Leto's personal assistant. An unidentified model and music producer told Air Mail that in 2006, when she was 16, Leto grabbed her arm while she was on her way to the bathroom at a café and got her number. Days later, the actor, who would have been in his 30s at the time, allegedly called her home in the middle of the night and invited her to a party at his house, which she declined. But the woman alleged Leto continued to call her over the next three weeks, "always at one, two, three a.m.," and that the "conversations turned sexual," with the actor asking inappropriate questions about her past sexual experiences. The woman said she was shaken by Leto's behavior, and her mother, who said she overheard one of the phone calls, vouched for her daughter's account to Air Mail. "He changed − his voice, the way he talked. It scared me," the woman told Air Mail. Another woman claimed she began a texting relationship with Leto when she was underage. She said things could turn uncomfortable when she visited his home, with the actor asking her sexual questions. In an alleged encounter when she was 18, the woman claimed Leto "suddenly pulled his penis out and started masturbating," then "walked over, grabbed my hand, and put it on him." Festival brings 'big names in intimate spaces'
In 2022, comedians Charlotte Evans and Will Adamsdale began what was then Exeter's only regular new material comedy gig. Held in a tiny cafe, they said often the only noise in crowd was from a loud refrigerated meat counter. Three years later, Locally Sourced comedy has evolved into a four-day festival with more than 60 acts performing across 15 venues. Ms Evans said: "We never set out to make a festival, we just wanted a regular night to perform comedy. "It makes me so proud to see acts who started in front of the meat counter selling out their solo shows." Tim Key, Bridget Christie and Mark Watson were some of the big names performing alongside strong local acts at the festival which began on Thursday. JoJo Maberly performed her first-ever stand-up gig in Exeter three years ago and returned to the festival with her musical-comedy show Angst & Angstability. "It's so great to see the comedy world come alive in Exeter," she said. The success of the festival was depended on by comedians who said they were becoming increasingly priced out of the well-trodden routes to success. The cost of attending the Edinburgh Fringe, which served as a cheap breakthrough for so many top British comedians, has soared in recent years. In 2024 comics spoke out against "soaring costs" and "pure greed" which had prevented them from performing or making money at the festival. Comedian Greg Winfield, from Barnstaple, decided to go on a solo tour with his show Whatever You Say, attending the Exeter Comedy Festival but not Edinburgh. The comic of eight years said: "I think the old school way of doing comedy, of either moving to London or being on a relentless Edinburgh churn, is probably less important these days. "[Exeter Comedy Festival] the finest comedy festival in the South West - I challenge others to raise themselves to this level." All 15 venues at the Exeter Comedy Festival were independent businesses. They ranged from a cocktail bar, a vegan cafe to a barber shop, which was converted into a performance space. Alongside their shows, a number of comedians submitted pieces of art for a festival exhibition. Curated by Karen Lockhart, it features pieces by Spencer Jones, Emma Hughes, Olaf Falafel and others. Ms Lockhart said: "I wanted to give an outlet for all these comedians who also have something else going on." Festival organiser Georgia Thomas predicted the festival would continue to grow but it would stay true to having "big names in intimate spaces". "We wanted to create a festival similar to the shows you can see in Edinburgh and London without having to travel so far," she said. "Having big names in intimate spaces helps reduce the hierarchy which is good for them, good for local acts and good for us. "We'll keep the intimate vibe but grow the festival to benefit comedians, audiences and local businesses." Exeter Comedy Festival
