Medical dramas as a tried and true TV genre, and there are a number of them currently on TV. I'm a hardcore Grey's Anatomy fan, who had continued to watch new seasons on ABC and streaming with a Hulu subscription. I've finally begun watching The Pitt on HBO Max, and there are a few reasons why that new drama feels like classic Grey's. Let's break it down.
The Pitt Season 1 is available now for those with a HBO Max subscription, and I've spent the last few days binge watching it. While it's thrilling to see Noah Wyle return to the genre, I'm really feeling the same vibes of early Grey's Anatomy. Namely because there is such a huge focus on the medicine of the Emergency Room.

The Pitt Is All About The Medicine
Because early years of Grey's Anatomy were focused on surgical interns and their education, the medicine was key. Meredith, Cristina, Alex and the rest competed for surgeries, and to show their breadth of knowledge. And along the way their cases would reflect back their own personal lives and move a larger story forward.
While The Pitt does have compelling lead characters, the medicine and work of the hospital is more of a focus than their personal lives. This is something I've felt was missing for some time on Grey's. While there's always new patients, they're rarely featured multi-episode arcs the way the show did in its early seasons.
Since The Pitt isn't on network TV, it's also to shore more horrifying gore and graphic surgery footage than Grey's. That, as well as its format that's like a medical version of 24, and The Pitt is thoroughly bingeable.
Plus, Perfect Penny is in the cast.
Aside from their obvious, similarities The Pitt also harkens back to classic Grey's Anatomy with its casting. Namely Samantha Sloyan, who played Dr. Penny Blake throughout Seasons 11 and 12. This time she's on the other side of things, as the mother of a patient who goes brain dead during Episode 2. Her grieving process is a recurring plot line throughout Season 1, and I loved seeing the connective tissue with Grey's.
Nowadays Sloyan is best known for her work on Mike Flanagan projects like Midnight Mass and Fall of the House of Usher (both of which are streaming with a Netflix subscription). But she'll always be Perfect Penny to me, Callie's girlfriend and one of the doctors responsible for McDreamy's death. So seeing her back in a medical drama was an unexpected delight in catching up on The Pitt.
The Pitt was already renewed for Season 2, and the first is streaming in its entirety on Max as part of the 2025 TV schedule. Hopefully we get even more Grey's Anatomy connections in the next batch of episodes.

Jenna Dewan upstaged by baby daughter Rhiannon in adorable dance video: Watch

Jenna Dewan isn't the only star in her household. The actress and dancer, who shares two children with fiancé Steve Kazee, shared a video of herself spending quality time with her 1-year-old daughter Rhiannon in a July 31 Instagram post. The couple welcomed their baby girl on June 14, 2024. The adorable clip first showed Dewan, 44, getting her groove on to the Carl Carlton hit "She's a Bad Mama Jama (She's Built, She's Stacked)." However, Dewan's dance video was quickly hijacked by Rhiannon's silly antics. The baby lifted her shirt, inadvertently showing off her tummy, as her mother got into the high-energy choreography. "Rhiannon you scene stealer," Dewan captioned the post. Baby Dewan's overshadowing power was confirmed in the comments section, as Dewan's Instagram followers gushed over Rhiannon's cuteness. "THE BELLY LIFT TOOK ME OUT😭," @omgitssophh wrote, while @deniselowe6 commented, "Your back up dancer stole the show🙌😂❤️❤️❤️❤️" Dewan paid tribute to Rhiannon and her dancing charisma in a June 14 Instagram post celebrating the baby's first birthday. "Rhiannon you are the greatest gift ever and you make everything and everyone better with your presence," wrote Dewan alongside a series of mother-daughter photos. "You are the sweetest, most bewitching, charismatic snuggler and the way you dance to every single song you hear especially your sister's favorite K-pop songs and your brother's favorite Kendrick Lamar songs is also part of you weaving your magic 🥹❤️" She concluded: "Thank you for being the best baby ever and the absolute best blessing I could ever imagine! We love you so much you baby girl!" Rhiannon is one of three children of the "Step Up" star. Dewan also shares a son, 5-year-old Callum, with Kazee. Dewan's first child, 12-year-old daughter Everly Tatum, is from her former marriage to actor Channing Tatum. Jenna Dewan's daughter Everly tags along for 'Live with Kelly and Mark' cohosting gig For Dewan, Take Your Daughter to Work Day is a must. The actress put on her hosting hat when she was tapped to fill in for Kelly Ripa on the Aug. 5 episode of "Live with Kelly and Mark." Dewan took fans behind the scenes via her Instagram stories with clips from her appearance on the ABC morning talk show. "This is the most fun day for me. I get to come and do this great, fun job and see all you guys," said Dewan in one video, seemingly addressing the studio audience. Dewan's "Kelly and Mark" entourage included her daughter Everly. The "Superman & Lois" alum shared several photos of the pair having fun backstage, including one shot of Everly watching her mother cohost from the sidelines. Dewan also posted a playful dance video of the mother-daughter duo hamming it up. "Been bringing this one to work with me since she was just two months old when we were filming Witches of East End," Dewan wrote alongside a photo of herself and Everly embracing on set.

Where Adam Scott & Rider Strong Stand Years After Awkward Encounter

Originally appeared on E! Online There's no need to call Mr. Feeny to help calm this drama. After all, Adam Scott revealed that he and Boy Meets World costar Rider Strong, 45, are on good terms, three decades after they had a tense encounter while filming the show. 'Rider Strong, who the awkward interaction was with, didn't even remember it,' Adam, who played Griff Hawkins in the ABC drama, explained on the July 24 episode of Entertainment Weekly's Awardist podcast. 'I truly had been carrying it around for 30 years, because it was like 1994. It's crazy. I feel like we addressed it. I think it's been squashed.' Indeed, their awkward conversation goes back to the second season of the series. During Adam's appearance on Pod Meets World—a rewatch podcast that features Boy Meets World alums Rider (who played Shawn Hunter), Danielle Fishel (Topanga Lawrence) and Will Friedle (Eric Matthews)—in 2023, the 53-year-old explained that he tried to compliment his costar on his performance in their shared scenes. 'I give you a high five and I go in and hug you, and as I do that, you push me off and you give me this look like, 'Wait a second. Who the f--k are you?' And then you run away.' Shocked at the revelation, Rider noted that he didn't remember his negative reaction. 'Are you serious?' he asked while trying to recall details from that day on set. 'Why would I do that?!' But despite the alleged icy moment, the two buried the hatchet during the Pod Meets World episode. Fast forward to now, the Severance actor revealed his exchange with Rider made him 'nervous' to interact with other actors once he left the show in 1995. 'It took me 20 years to overcome,' Adam said on Awardist, confirming that he's no longer intimidated to build friendships in the industry. 'It's just [from] being so freaked out being on a movie set or a TV set, because I was so excited about it, that I couldn't kind of calm down and just relax and not worry about all the accoutrements around you.' While Adam and Rider resolved their misunderstanding, there's still other feuds running rampant in the Boy Meets World universe.
