Gabrielle Union Shares Husband Dwyane Wade Is Cancer Free
So, let's delve into the details of what Union revealed about her spouse's current health.
The Bad Boys II actress has announced that her husband, Dwyane Wade, is officially cancer-free after undergoing surgery to remove a cyst tumor from his kidney.
The NBA Hall of Famer initially revealed his diagnosis in January on an episode of WY Network's The Why With Dwyane Wade podcast. He shared that surgeons removed 40% of his right kidney on December 18, 2023.
During a February 27 episode of The View, Gabrielle Union was asked about Wade's condition. She responded, 'Yes, he's had the surgery and he's cancer-free, but it was a challenge.' Union admitted that she was initially in shock after hearing the diagnosis, saying, 'You hear cancer [and] you're paralyzed because you think of the absolute worst-case scenario. I've had so many friends who are cancer survivors. I didn't go there; I went to 'he's gone.''
The actress also revealed that Wade kept the news private, choosing not to tell everyone, including some family members. While discussing his health battle on The WY Network podcast, he admitted that the experience left him feeling physically and emotionally vulnerable.
Dwyane Wade shared, 'It was the first time that my family, my dad, my kids, they saw me weak. That moment was probably the weakest point I've ever felt in my life.' He ultimately decided to go through with the surgery to prevent the cancer from spreading.
The couple share their 6-year-old daughter Kaavia James. Additionally, Wade has a son named Zaire and a daughter, Zaya, with his ex-wife Siohvaughn Funches. He also has a son, Xavier, with Aja Metoyer.

Lakers have hired a new strength and conditioning coach
Just after the Los Angeles Lakers were knocked out of the 2025 NBA Playoffs by the Minnesota Timberwolves in May, coach JJ Redick said publicly that everyone on the roster needed to get into "championship shape" for the following season. The comment was widely seen as directed at Luka Doncic, and Doncic has done his part by getting into fantastic shape and reportedly losing 30 pounds since last summer. Now, the Lakers have reportedly hired a new strength and conditioning coach, and that hire is someone who has some history with Doncic. His name is Jeremy Holsopple, and he used to be the Dallas Mavericks' athletic performance director. Holsopple apparently got along well with Doncic, and he was named the NBA's Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Year in 2021. However, he was fired by the Mavericks shortly after they lost to the Boston Celtics in the 2024 NBA Finals. This appears to be another example of the Lakers organization looking to cater to Doncic and help him be as happy, healthy and fit as possible. A happy, healthy and fit Doncic is the version of Doncic who would be most capable of leading the team to at least one NBA championship in the coming years.

Brooklyn Nets jersey history No. 22 - Maurice McHartley (1968)
The Brooklyn Nets have 52 jersey numbers worn by over 600 different players over the course of their history since the franchise was founded in 1967 as a charter member of the American Basketball Association (ABA), when the team was known as the "New Jersey Americans". Since then, that league has been absorbed by the NBA with the team that would later become the New York Nets and New Jersey Nets before settling on the name by which they are known today, bringing their rich player and jersey history with them to the league of today. To commemorate the players who played for the Nets over the decades wearing those 52 different jersey numbers, Nets Wire is covering the entire history of the franchise's jersey numbers and the players who sported them since the founding of the team. The 23rd of those 52 different numbers is jersey No. 22, which has has had a total of 31 players wear the number in the history of the team. The fourth of those players wearing No. 22 played in the (then) New York (now, Brooklyn) Nets era, guard alum Maurice McHartley. After ending his college career at North Carolina A&T, McHartley was picked up with the 60th overall selection of the 1964 NBA Draft by the (then) St. Louis (now, Atlanta) Hawks. The Detroit, Michigan native spent his first three seasons playing in a competing domestic league instead before signing with the ABA's (defunct) Dallas Chaparrals in 1967. He was dealt to New York in 1968, and played for the team for 24 games before he would be dealt to the (defunct) Miami Floridians that same year. During his time suiting up for the Nets, McHartley wore only jersey No. 22 and put up 12.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, and as many assists per game. All stats and data courtesy of Basketball Reference.
