Simone Biles, the Birkheads, Selma Blair and More Attend the Barnstable Brown Gala Ahead of the 2025 Kentucky Derby
The stars were aligned for this year's Barnstable Brown Gala!
On Friday, May 2, a day before the 2025 Kentucky Derby, celebrities including Simone Biles, Selma Blair and Aaron Rodgers attended the 36th iteration of the annual event, which is held in Louisville, Ky.
Dierks Bentley, Tracy Morgan, Mickey Guyton, Scott Stapp and Travis Tritt were also in attendance, as was TJ and John Osborne of Brothers Osborne and Little Big Town's Karen Fairchild and Jimi Westbrook.
Larry Birkhead and his daughter, Dannielynn Birkhead — whom he shared with the late Anna Nicole Smith — similarly attended the event, which they've been a staple at in recent years.

Chris Barnstable-Brown, one of the event's organizers, tells PEOPLE that the event was "meaningful" for Biles, 28, who was joined by her husband, Jonathan Owens, and her mother, Nellie Biles, who is a Type 2 diabetic.
"My daughter, Catherine, is a Type 1 diabetic, and Nellie and Catherine were comparing their continuous glucose monitors they both wear as a 'fashion accessory,' " he says.
Rodgers, 41, meanwhile, "was flanked by many of his former teammates, all of whom are incredibly loyal to him," Chris adds, further detailing, "He posed for a picture with his crew before hitting the back and jamming out."
As for music at the event, Chris tells PEOPLE, "The performances were nonstop." Some of those who performed included Boyz II Men and Joey Fatone, among others.

The Barnstable Brown Gala was founded by twin sisters Patricia Barnstable Brown and Priscilla Barnstable, along with their mother, Wilma Barnstable, and Patricia's late husband, Dr. David E. Brown.
The annual event — which sees stars across entertainment, news and sports come together to celebrate one of horse racing's biggest moments — takes place at Patricia's home.
To date, the Barnstable Brown Gala has raised and donated over $21 million — including $1 million from the 2024 gala alone.
All proceeds benefit the Barnstable Brown Diabetes Center at the University of Kentucky in Lexington.

The 151st running of the Kentucky Derby took place a day later on Saturday, May 3, at Churchill Downs in Louisville.
Sovereignty took home the first place title alongside jockey Junior Alvarado. The horse, who was trained by Bill Mott, won the race with 7-1 odds. Journalism (3-1) came in second, Baeza (13-1) placed third and Final Gambit (17-1) earned the fourth place spot.
"It's more than even a dream come true," said Alvarado, who suffered an injury weeks ago that set him back, during the event broadcast.
Mystik Dan, who was trained by Kenny McPeek, won last year's Kentucky Derby at 18-1 odds.

Sovereignty's Two Wins Presents A Golfers What If
The 2025 Triple Crown series is now in the history books and Sovereignty has left some feeling as if they just completed a round of golf. What in the world is that supposed to mean?… Let us expound. Sovereignty enjoyed a royal run in Kentucky Derby 151 With two extremely powerful runs, Sovereignty has captured both the Kentucky Derby and the Belmont Stakes. Unleashed like a locomotive at the top of the stretch at Churchill Downs and Saratoga Race Course, this hard-closing colt ran past the front runners with relative ease. That means he was victorious in the bookend jewels. But what about the middle gemstone, the Preakness? Well, he didn't run in that one thusly forgoing the opportunity to become the fourteenth Thoroughbred to win all three. Impressive efforts on both the the first Saturday in May and at New York's signature event has left horse racing fans and sports fans in general uttering that same two-word phrase lots of golfers (especially myself) use on a regular basis…What If… What if I hadn't sliced that ball into the woods…What if I hadn't hit the ball right into the water…twice…What if I had made that three-foot putt…And what if I only took one stroke to get out of the sand trap… Back to the more important what if and Sovereignty. His two performances against some of the best three-year-old males in the world in a five-week span speaks to his quality. There is no doubt he has the talent to be a Triple Crown champion, but what if you throw another mile and three sixteenths race into that five-week period? What if he ran back in two weeks, win or lose would it have affected his Belmont run? What if he had won the Preakness, would that have changed his Belmont opposition?… Just days after his scintillating Kentucky Derby score, the decision was made to skip the Preakness and instead ready for a run at Belmont glory. The powers that be with ownership group Godolphin and hall of fame trainer Bill Mott deliberated and decided it was about what was best for Sovereignty. Refusing to allow the pressures of the general public to persuade them, the decision was made and they stuck with the plan. On June 7, another huge effort from a runner that had rested for five weeks solidified Sovereignty as the real royalty of the three-year-old male division. At the same time, however, the big 'what ifs' began flying like lightning bugs on a hot summer night. So, how do we summarize? The Sovereignty situation should be treated much like a hacker's golf round. Far be it for anyone with my golfing abilities to question another's game. It's better to simply enjoy the good shot or two you have and maintain a 'next swing' mentality. The what ifs only drive you crazy and will not change the number you write on the scorecard (unless your pencil has an eraser). Sovereignty didn't run in the Preakness and time does not rewind itself. Obviously, his team understands the game as his Belmont performance speaks volumes. Godolphin is one of the winningest stables in the game and Bill Mott has won over 5,000 races. Let's revel in those two wonderful wins and think about that next swing when he toes the track again.

Conner Smith's Rep Gives Update After Nashville Fatal Accident
Rising country star Conner Smith's representative has now responded to the news that Smith was involved in a fatal accident in Nashville, TN, that left an elderly woman dead. Smith's rep told People that he was 'involved in a car accident that tragically claimed a life.' Smith was not injured. The crash occurred on the evening of June 8, and Dorothy Dobbins, 77, was killed after being struck by a pickup truck driven by Smith, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department wrote in a news release. 'His heart goes out to Ms. Dobbins' family during this incredibly difficult time,' Smith's rep's statement said, according to People. 'Mr. Smith continues to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation.' People noted that sources told the publication that Smith was not impaired at the time of the crash nor "distracted by his phone." Smith has 200,000 followers on Instagram. According to 9News, he is best known for the "viral hit 'I Hate Alabama' and released his debut album, 'Smoky Mountains,' in 2024." He "was nominated for New Male Artist of the Year at the ACM Awards last year," the station reported. "The pedestrian killed Sunday night after she was struck by a vehicle on 3rd Avenue North near Van Buren Street is identified as 77-year-old Dorothy Dobbins," police wrote. "The preliminary investigation indicates that a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, driven by Conner Smith, 24, was traveling north on 3rd Avenue North as Dobbins was crossing the roadway," the release says. "It appears that she was inside a marked crosswalk when she was struck around 7:30 p.m. Dobbins, who lived nearby, was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she died." "The preliminary contributing factor for this crash appears to be Smith failing to yield the right of way to the pedestrian. He showed no signs of impairment.
