Danny Dyer and Stephen Graham join for Adolescence-like show

Rhyl Journal20-07-2025
EastEnders star Danny Dyer and Stephen Graham are reportedly putting their heads together for a show based on issues affecting society in the modern day.
The new drama promises to be "gritty" and "unflinching" in its approach, according to an insider.
A post shared by Netflix UK & Ireland (@netflixuk)
Talking with The Mirror, the source said: "They are currently thrashing out what they want to do. It'll be in the vein of Adolescence. Something unflinching and moving.'
Adolescence, which was co-created and co-written by This Is England favourite Stephen Graham, recently broke records when it premiered on Netflix, seeing it become the most-watched show of the year.
The Four-part series starts with the arrest of 13-year-old Jamie (played by Owen Cooper) when armed police storm the family home. Over the course of the show, it explores misogyny among teenage boys.
The Last time Graham and EastEnders star Danny Dyer worked together was all the way back in 2009, when they both starred in the British slapstick horror film Doghouse.
Previously, Danny called on Stephen to get him involved in one of his projects and praised Adolesence.
Danny said: 'It's such an important subject, but the fact they're doing it in one take. As an actor and being part of that world I find it f****** incredible.
"So, Steve, you've got to roll me into something. I want a bit of this!'

Helen Skelton and Gethin Jones split as he returns to dating app 'keen to meet other women'

Helen Skelton and Gethin Jones have 'ended their rumoured romance' after the former Blue Peter presenter was 'spotted on a popular dating app' Gethin Jones and Helen Skelton appear to have called it 'quits' on their rumoured romance, as Gethin has reportedly returned to a dating app. ‌ The popular BBC presenters have shared a close friendship for some time, which was believed to have blossomed into something more after they were seen leaving the BAFTAs together in May. While they never officially confirmed a relationship, the pair had been spotted spending time together away from work, including a recent spa day at a country club. ‌ But it seems the brief romance has fizzled out as Gethin has reportedly been spotted on celebrity app Raya while he enjoys a trip to Australia, where he's been watching the British and Irish Lions' tour with a group of mates, the Mirror reports. ‌ It comes days after a further hint that things were heating up between the pair when Gethin, 47, took to his Instagram stories to publicly wish Helen happy birthday as she turned 42 earlier this month. "Gethin is on the prowl Down Under which puts the nail in the coffin for his romance with Helen," a source told Mail Online. "He's there with pals but keen to meet other women. ‌ "There is no way Helen would stand for that if they were together and he has far too much respect for her to even go behind her back. Despite having an increasingly close connection it's cooled down significantly which is gutting for fans who really wanted them to be together." The pair have both endured heartbreak in recent years. Gethin's engagement to Katherine Jenkins was called off in 2011 and he's experienced a series of short relationships since. ‌ Meanwhile Helen separated from ex-husband Richie Myler - with whom she shares three children - back in 2022. Helen and Leeds Rhinos rugby player Richie, 35, had been married for eight years and had just welcomed their third child, Elsie, when they parted ways. He now has two more children with Stephanie Thirkhill, also 35, whose millionaire father Andrew Thirkill is the president of Richie's rugby club. ‌ Shocking her followers at the time, Helen revealed the devastating news of her split on Instagram as she shared: "Very sad to say that Richie and I are no longer a couple. He has left the family home. We will be doing our best to co-parent our small children." While writing her 2023 autobiography, In My Stride, Helen opened up about the heartbreak of her unexpected separation. She shared candid reflections on the emotional toll it took, admitting that the breakup came as a shock and wasn't something she had ever seen coming. She penned: "I was in shock. I know that following break-ups, people often say they didn't see it coming and it sounds like a cliché, but that was me."

Alan Ford's most legendary roles as gangster icon stars in Mr Bigstuff season 2

Alan Ford, 87, is best known for his role as Brick Top in Guy Ritchie's Snatch and has since gone on to star in a number of TV and film projects. Mr Bigstuff returns to Sky with Danny Dyer and Ryan Sampson resuming their portrayals of feuding siblings Lee and Glen. ‌ The second series has welcomed some remarkable guest appearances, featuring Coronation Street icon Rula Lenska as the quirky and flirtatious Rita. Viewers were equally delighted by the EastEnders reunion that saw Dyer and Linda Henry share the screen again, with Henry adopting the character of Pam. ‌ Among the guest performers for Mr Bigstuff's second series is Alan Ford, an 87 year old thespian hailing from Camberwell, London. The eldest child of a dressmaker and cab driver, Ford was raised in Elephant and Castle. Upon departing school at 15, he undertook numerous positions before completing two years of national service with the Royal Army Ordnance Corps. ‌ He secured a role as one of the firefighters in Fahrenheit 451, subsequently gaining admission to East 15 Acting School for a three-year programme, reports the Manchester Evening News. The performer is most recognised for his parts in Guy Ritchie's criminal underworld films Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. ‌ In 2024 he became part of the EastEnders ensemble as Billy Mitchell's (Perry Fenwick) alienated father Stevie, whilst the Mitchell clan braced themselves to bid farewell to Aunt Sal (Anna Karen). The actor's cinematic journey has featured him delivering some legendary performances, with his portrayal of Brick Top in Snatch standing as one of the most unforgettable. ‌ Admirers posted footage of the character on a Facebook group titled Classic TV Moments, describing the performer as an "absolute legend". One admirer chimed in: "Alan made Snatch a great film, I would love to sit and have a pint with him!". Another fan expressed: "Brilliant character. Brought to life by Mr Ford." A third echoed: "One of the best British gangster roles ever played. Watch it time and time again hits the same every time. Funny as f***." He also had a memorable part as the cabbie in An American Werewolf in London, where he famously comments on the murders around London, uttering the iconic line: "It puts you in mind of the days of the old demon barber of Fleet Street, doesn't it?"

Brit comedian 'could be jailed' for three years in Turkey after 'embarrassing mistake'

Cerys Nelmes, a stand-up comic, claims that she walked out of a Zara shop in Turkey without paying and although returning and owning up to her error, she was arrested. A British comedian who walked out of a Turkish Zara store without paying could face up to three years behind bars, despite going back to apologise upon realising her mistake. On July 22, Cerys Nelmes, a stand-up comic from Bristol, said it was a mistake and claimed she left the store with clothes before realising she had not gone through the till. After returning to the store to hand back the items and offering to pay, Nelmes says she was instead detained, locked in a room for hours without explanation, and eventually arrested for shoplifting, reports the Mirror. She said she was taken to a police station, pressured to sign documents in a language she could not read, and held in a cell for 24 hours with no food, water or a toilet. She said: "I was told they didn't understand me." The next day, she was brought before a judge who released her but banned her from leaving the country. She now faces a potential three-year sentence as the case proceeds. Nelmes says she is stranded in Turkey, unable to afford accommodation and missing out on work back home, putting her and her son at risk of losing their UK home. She said: "I'm ok and have been taken in by a Turkish family who gave me food and a bed. I don't deserve all the kind words from people but I am very grateful." Recounting what happened, she said that she had left the store with several items of clothing before realising her error. Despite returning to the store, claiming she had returned the items and wanted to pay, Nelmes was seized for shoplifting. The English stand-up comic explained the incident in a social media post saying: "On Tuesday I left a Zara store in Istanbul without paying for items. "I returned straight away and handed the items to staff. I was asked to pay and I said I would and the manager accepted this. To cut a long story short I was then taken to a locked room where hours later after no communication from anyone I was taken away by police and held in a police station and was asked to sign things I couldn't read. "I was put in a prison cell for 24 hours with no food or toilet facilities. When I asked for water, I was told they didn't understand me. "I was handcuffed and taken for fingerprints and mugshots at 3am. I was handcuffed and taken to court the following day and put in a cell. "I appeared before the judge and was told by a translator that I was released, but unable to leave Turkey for an undetermined amount of time. He said I was lucky to not be put in prison but I currently face up to three years. I have to report to a local police station every Monday. "I am lucky I have good friends in Turkey who are currently looking after me, and trying to translate the paperwork. I have no money, no earnings coming in from home, and I am running out of important medication. I will lose my home which I share with my son, and livelihood. "I am not looking for sympathy. I made a mistake which I tried to immediately rectify. I am embarrassed for my friends, my family, and I have made my 78-year-old mum unwell. I will never forgive myself for what I have done. "I believe I did it for mental health medical problems, but ultimately there is no excuse." The comedian has asked for public support as the ongoing court proceedings are causing her to lose work and earnings. The British Embassy said in a short statement that they are providing their support. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community!
