Wife of ex-S.Korean President Yoon questioned over corruption scandal
The wife of ousted South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol is being questioned by a special prosecutor over claims of corruption and other allegations. Kim Keon-hee appeared for questioning at the special prosecutor's office in central Seoul on Wednesday morning. One of the allegations against her is that she received a luxury handbag and a necklace from a then high-ranking official of a religious group widely known as the Unification Church via a third person. Kim, wearing a black suit, told reporters outside the office that she was sorry for causing concern. She said she would cooperate fully with the investigation. South Korean media outlets are giving extensive coverage to the case. Some reports say Kim may face multiple rounds of questioning.

South Korea's former first lady questioned in probe over bribe allegations
South Korea's former first lady, at the heart of a Dior bag scandal that shook the country's politics, appeared for questioning as part of an investigation into allegations ranging from suspected stock manipulation to bribery. It's Kim Keon Hee's first public appearance in a criminal investigation since her husband, former President Yoon Suk Yeol, was ousted in April over a failed attempt to put the country under martial law late last year. "I sincerely apologize to our people for causing concern despite being such an insignificant person,' Kim told reporters as she arrived at the special counsel team's office in Seoul on Wednesday. "I will fully cooperate with the investigation.' Kim's legal representative did not immediately respond to a request seeking comment. The probe was launched last month, less than a month after President Lee Jae Myung took office. Investigators are looking into a wide range of issues from allegations Kim received a luxury handbag and a necklace to suspicions that she was involved in a stock manipulation scheme between 2009 and 2012. Public sentiment turned against Yoon's conservative government after it emerged that Kim received a Dior handbag under questionable circumstances. While the incident happened in 2022, it only came to light in November 2023, and then escalated into a political firestorm in early 2024. Yoon suffered a major defeat in parliamentary elections later that year, weakening his position less than halfway into his single, five-year term. His presidency was eventually cut short by his impeachment, which led to a snap election in June.

Three detained in Taiwan for allegedly stealing TSMC chip secrets
Prosecutors in Taiwan say they have detained three former and current employees of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, the world's largest contract chipmaker, for allegedly illegally obtaining information on sensitive technology. Taiwanese media say they are suspected of leaking trade secrets overseas about TSMC's advanced 2-nanometer chip technology. The Taiwan High Prosecutors Office announced on Tuesday that the three people were detained following a search by prosecutors late last month, which was conducted after TSMC reported the results of its internal investigation. The office added it is investigating possible violations of Taiwan's national security law. Taiwan media say prosecutors also searched the office of a Japanese firm. TSMC told NHK that during routine monitoring it detected unauthorized activities which could lead to trade secret leaks. The firm added it has taken strict disciplinary action and launched legal proceedings.
