Two Rock Falls residents charged in Lee County with burglary, drug offenses
Mar. 20—DIXON — Two Rock Falls residents have been charged in connection with a burglary in rural Dixon.
The Lee County Sheriff's Office was alerted to a burglary in progress Saturday, March 15, in the area of U.S. 30 and Walton Road in rural Dixon. There were two individuals seen on the property going in and out of a garage, according to a news release. Lee County deputies arrived on scene and arrested Thomas E. Ulve, 46, and Mariann C. Poff, 30.
Ulve is charged with felony burglary, possession of burglary tools and two counts of possession of a controlled substance, according to court documents.
Ulve was also held in custody for an arrest warrant in DeKalb County for retail theft and for a contempt of court warrant out of Lee County, according to the release. According to the release, Ulve is out of custody on pending matters that include a theft case in Winnebago County.
Poff also was charged with felony burglary, possession of burglary tools, and two counts of possession of a controlled substance, according to court documents. Poff was held in custody for an arrest warrant in DuPage County for failing to appear for retail theft and for retail theft in DeKalb County.
In accordance with provisions of the Illinois SAFE-T Act, Ulve and Poff were given a court date and released from custody, according to the release.
Ulve's next court appearance is a preliminary hearing at 8:30 a.m. April 2 in Lee County Circuit Court. He also will appear at that time in a separate case filed March 17 that accuses him of attempting to elude officers on March 7 and for a third case, filed March 14, that accuses him of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia on Feb. 27.
Poff's preliminary hearing also is set for 8:30 a.m. April 2 in Lee County Circuit Court.
Both Ulve and Poff are represented by the Lee County Public Defender's Office. Both are demanding a speedy trial.

One of the suspicious men said he was there to check the leveling on her mobile home for flooding. The man measured and checked from the front of the trailer to the drive. Neither man identified himself nor said who they were working for. They left before deputies arrived. A County Road 1205, Nettleton, woman said an unknown man and woman were trespassing, again. She said the couple have been coming onto her property looking through her shed for more than a year. Neither person has ever talked to her. A County Road 300, Shannon, man said a friend borrowed a utility trailer. When he returned the trailer, he could smell alcohol coming from the driver's area. He said the man was driving a white pickup, heading north of County Road 506. A Hillridge Road, Tupelo, man said the IRS mailed his income tax return on March 12. Someone intercepted the check, forged his signature and cashed the check. He reported the theft to the IRS but wanted a separate report on file for his records. Driver raced 104 mph because he ‘liked the noise of the exhaust,' FL cops say
Illegal street racing has an allure of being exciting, but a driver pulled over for going 104 mph said it was the roaring sound that compelled him, according to investigators in Florida. The arrest happened just after 11 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, in Lehigh Acres, after a deputy spotted three vehicles traveling at a high rate of speed on six-lane Lee Boulevard, according to a Lee County Sheriff's Office affidavit. The speed limit in the area is 45 mph and radar 'clocked' the vehicles in the 100-mph range, officials said. All three were stopped, and among the drivers was an 18-year-old who noted he was 'racing a Dodge Charger because he liked the noise of the exhaust,' the sheriff's office reported. He was arrested and charged with a street racing/stunt driving violation, and his vehicle was impounded, the sheriff's office said. Details of the other drivers were not released. 'I have zero tolerance for street racing in Lee County,' Sheriff Carmine Marceno said in a June 5 news release. 'Driving an excessive speed and putting yourself, your passengers, and others on the road at risk is an incredibly selfish decision.' Lehigh Acres is about a 140-mile drive southeast from Tampa.
