IRCTC hotel scam case: Delhi court defers decision on framing charges against Lalu Prasad
The alleged scam took place between 2004 to 2009 when Lalu Prasad was the Union railway minister. During his tenure, two hotels were given on lease without following the norms.
Special judge Vishal Gogne, who was slated to deliver the verdict on Wednesday, deferred the pronouncement till August 5.
The Rouse Avenue Court had reserved its order on May 29 after hearing detailed arguments on framing of criminal conspiracy, cheating and corruption charges against the accused persons. Besides, Lalu Prasad and Tejashwi Yadav, Prem Gupta, Sarla Gupta, Railway officials Rakesh Saksena and P.K. Goyal are also accused in this case.
The case is related to the alleged irregularities in giving the contract of maintenance of two IRCTC hotels to a firm when Lalu Prasad Yadav was the Railway Minister.
One of the hotels was allotted to Sarla Gupta, who is wife of Prem Gupta, a close friend of Lalu Prasad.
He was also a Rajya Sabha MP at that time. As per the prosecution, the RJD leader got three acres of prime land through a benami company.
Claiming that there were no irregularities on his part, Lalu Prasad said that the tenders were awarded fairly and sought a discharge.
Last week, the Supreme Court refused to entertain Lalu Prasad's plea seeking a stay on the proceedings of the trial court in the land-for-job case.
He had moved a special leave petition (SLP) before the top court challenging the Delhi High Court's rejection of his application to stay the trial proceedings.
This came after the trial court took cognisance of the multiple charge sheets filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
As per the CBI, during the period 2004-2009, Lalu Prasad (then Railway Minister) had obtained pecuniary advantages in the form of transfer of landed property in the name of his family members in lieu of appointment of substitutes in Group 'D' posts in different Zones of the Railways.
A number of residents of Patna themselves or through their family members sold and gifted their land in favour of the family members of Lalu Prasad and a private company controlled by him and his family.

On July 26, contractor Dinesh Sharma, working in Delhi's Tis Hazari Court, approached the CBI alleging that a senior PWD official had demanded a commission of 3% for clearing his bills. Immediately, the CBI lodged an FIR against Kalu Ram Meena (57), an Executive Engineer in the PWD's Judiciary Civil Division — a unit that handles construction and maintenance work for trial courts — at the Rouse Avenue District Court complex. Around 11.45 pm on July 28, Meena was arrested, caught 'red-handed' accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 from Sharma for allegedly signing three completion certificates in connection with a construction project at the trial court. He was produced before Special Judge Sanjay Khanagwal of Rouse Avenue Court. Meena spent two days in CBI custody before being sent to judicial custody until August 13 on Wednesday. In its remand application, the CBI stated that it has recovered Rs 40 lakh from Meena's house in Delhi. Another Rs 1.2 crore was recovered from his Jaipur house, the CBI claimed, alleging that it has voice call recordings between the complainant and the accused. 'After negotiation, the accused executive engineer demanded a bribe of Rs 30,000 from the complainant for clearing his pending bills. The CBI laid a trap on 28.07.2025 and caught the accused… red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe of Rs 30,000 from the complainant. Searches were conducted at Delhi and Jaipur, which led to the recovery of cash of Rs 1.60 crore as well as property documents, bank accounts having sufficient balance, etc,' the agency had earlier said in a statement.

Kerala bizman's missing case: Departmental probe ordered against four cops
Kozhikode: A department-level inquiry has been ordered against four police officers for alleged lapse in the initial probe into the disappearance of real estate businessman Mohammed Attoor alias Mami in 2023. North zone IG Rajpal Meena has ordered for the probe following a report by the crime branch, which is currently probing the case that there have been serious lapses on the part of the police team which had conducted the initial investigation into the case. The report had flagged serious lapses in collection of evidence in the initial stages of the probe, including alleged failure to collect he CCTV visuals from the spots where Mami was last seen. According to sources, the departmental probe has been ordered against then Nadakkavu inspector of police P K Jineesh, sub-inspector of police Binu Mohan, senior CPO M V Sreekanth and K K Biju. The probe would be conducted by Kozhikode City narcotic cell assistant commissioner K A Bose. He has been asked to submit the probe report within 60 days.
