Where Clemson landed in CBS Sports 'programs set up for future national titles' tiers
With the SEC and Big Ten pulling in record money and only adding to it with future TV deals, the top tier is heavily tilted toward those two conferences. CBS broke teams into tiers based on recruiting muscle, financial backing, available talent, leadership advantages and whether their expectations match reality.
Clemson landed in the 'Silver' group — the third tier — sharing the spot with Tennessee, Miami, Florida State and Auburn.
'All five have hoisted a national championship trophy before, which proves it's possible again,' CBS' Brad Crawford wrote. 'Whenever Clemson finally exits the ACC and joins one of the super leagues in the next wave of realignment, the Tigers should see a revenue bump that lines up with college football's biggest spenders. But whenever Dabo Swinney steps down, whoever follows him will have a major task trying to keep that level of success going. The sport is more balanced than before, and recruiting isn't what it was during Clemson's title years.'
At the top sits the 'Diamond' level, filled mostly with SEC powers — Texas, LSU, Georgia and Alabama — plus Ohio State out of the Big Ten.
One step down sits Notre Dame at the front of the 'Gold' tier, joined by Michigan, Oregon, USC and Texas A&M. Clemson's recent dip into the portal also got a nod from ESPN's Adam Rittenberg: 'The big change is coach Dabo Swinney's willingness to add a few portal pieces,' he said. 'Heldt joins an already talented defensive line, and Southeast Missouri State's Tristan Smith provides a big frame (6-foot-5, 205 pounds) for the receiving corps. Clemson had a relatively small number of outgoing transfers, although defensive tackle Tre Williams could be missed.'
For now, Clemson enters the fall with high expectations yet again — ranked inside the Top 5 by multiple outlets and favored to take the ACC crown. After winning two titles and appearing in four national championship games from 2015 to 2019, the Tigers aim to get back to the playoff's final four for the first time in half a decade.

Texas A&M freshman 5-star WR is looking healthy in latest video
Texas A&M's 2025 wide receiver rotation is built on speed and quickness, which should result in consistent separation in coverage after head coach Mike Elko and his staff landed KC Concepcion (NC State), Mario Craver (Mississippi State), and Jonah Wilson (Houston) from the transfer portal, while 2025 signees TK Norman, Kelshaun Johnson and five-star Jerome Myles represent the future rotation. However, after missing a majority of his senior high school season in Draper, Utah due to a knee injury, Jerome Myles is back and 100% healthy with an eye on contributing at a high level during the 2025 season, bringing his notable size at 6'2" and 220 pounds and speed that fits what Elko and OC Collin Klein are looking for to fill the void left by junior Noah Thomas, who transferred to Georgia this offseason. While many worried that health would be an issue after Myles was the last signee from the 2025 class to make it to campus, that is now in the rearview mirror, meaning getting up to speed with the rest of the wide receiver rotation is key to make an instant impact this fall. In a new video from Myles' Instagram, courtesy of On3/Rivals recruiting insider Jaxson Callaway, the Utah native is already looking the part before fall camp officially begins next week. For someone coming off an ACL injury, Myles is looking like a player with a chance to crack the starting lineup, but will more than likely be the No. 4 option for starting quarterback Marcel Reed once he gets acclimated to the speed of college offenses. Either way, this is a great sign for the Aggies, who know that no matter how long it takes, Jerome Myles is destined for stardom. Notre Dame star RB Jeremiyah Love threw out the first pitch at a St. Louis Cardinals game
Notre Dame star running back Jeremiyah Love was in his home state of Missouri this weekend, and once again was honored by the St. Louis community. As one of the top returning players in college football, Love is no stranger to the spotlight and it was once again on him Friday night as he threw out the first pitch at the St. Louis Cardinals game. The clip starts off with him catch an over the shoulder 'pass' from the mascot, as he proceeded to the mount for the ceremonial pitch. Love would then have a solid throw, although it wasn't quite a strike, just a bit out of the zone. What's great about the video is it included his commentary during the whole time. You can hear him saying to himself not to screw it up, go back to his teaching and then not being overtly happy with his throw. After leaving the field, he did acknowledge that his toss was better than it bouncing up there. Check out the full video below, as Love joins plenty of other former and current Notre Dame stars to throw out the first pitch at a Major League Baseball game. Class of 2027 Notre Dame in-state DE target Jayce Brewer picks up an offer from LSU
Notre Dame received a big commitment in its 2027 recruiting class this past Thursday when quarterback Teddy Jarrard pledged to the Fighting Irish. Landing a quarterback of his caliber early in a class is always a nice luxury, as it could potentially set the table for a special class. The Irish are in play for some intriguing prospects on the other side of the ball in this class as well, including in-state Franklin Central (Indianapolis, IN) defensive end Jayce Brewer. But the Irish will have some work to do in order to get his commitment. Brewer has a lot of offers from major programs, and he just picked another one up from Brian Kelly and LSU. The four-star prospect is the No. 3 player from the state of Indiana for the 2027 class, per the 247Sports Composite Rankings. The 6-foot-5, 240-pound pass rusher has offers from major programs such as Michigan, Penn State and Florida, among others, in addition to the Irish and LSU. Last season, Brewer recorded 12 tackles for loss along with three sacks and an interception. Marcus Freeman, Al Washington and Co. are in the mix for the athletic and raw Brewer, but they will have to hold off LSU and others for his pledge.
