Two weeks after election, Mohali MLA Kulwant quits as PCA secretary
He was given this post in the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on July 12, but after 13 days, he stepped down, citing personal reasons.
The development comes amid PCA's preparations to host two Women's International ODIs and Sher-e-Punjab T20 Cup.
Kulwant confirmed this, saying, 'I have resigned from the post due to personal reasons. I am committed to serving the public and want to devote time to this work.'
Having a long run in politics, the AAP MLA's innings in cricket management was not very long. With assets worth ₹251 crore, he is the richest MLA of Punjab.
He was nominated for the secretary's post by the Gurdaspur Cricket Association and elected without any opposition.
Now to fill the vacant post, PCA will have to call elections again, within 15 days.
For starters, a meeting of the PCA Apex Council will be called, where members will be apprised of the resignation. In the same meeting, the electoral officer will be appointed. The name of the winner will be announced by calling a special general meeting.

Three Suspected Militants Killed in Intense Firefight at Srinagar Outskirts
Srinagar: Three suspected militants were gunned down today July 28 during an encounter with security forces in the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir's capital Srinagar. An army spokesperson said that three suspected militants were killed in an 'intense firefight' in the general area of Lidwas which is located in the higher reaches of Harwan-Mulnar area on the outskirts of Srinagar district. The firefight ensued this morning after a joint team of J&K Police and army which was carrying out searches in the area came under heavy fire, prompting retaliatory firing by the forces, reports said. Security forces had launched a search operation following intelligence inputs about suspicious movement in the region whose rugged terrain and dense vegetation offers an ideal transit route for militants to move from south to central Kashmir. Some mountain trails in the area where the encounter took place lead to the Amarnath shrine where more than 3.7 lakh Hindu devotees have paid obeisance amid the ongoing pilgrimage. The annual pilgrimage is this year being held under the shadow of the Pahalgam terrorist attack and the government has deployed thousands of troops to secure the cave shrine. The army spokesperson said that the operation in Lidwas was underway amid apprehensions of the presence of more suspects in the area. The encounter broke out two days after a group of tribal men living in a seasonal habitation in Dhagwan area, which is not far from the site of the ongoing encounter, alleged that they were beaten up by an army official on the charges of providing food and shelter to militants. The army has not however pressed any formal charges against any of the men who suffered injuries of various degrees in the thrashing. Proscribed militant groups such as Jaish-e-Mohammad and Lashkar-e-Tayyaba and their affiliate groups have turned the girdle of mountains circling the Kashmir valley into an active battleground by inflicting heavy casualties on security forces there in the years after Article 370 was read down. Following the Pahalgam terrorist attack on April 22 this year, the Pir Panjal range of mountains, Lidder Valley and Sindh Valley of Kashmir have been closed by security agencies for trekking and other adventure activities while the army and other agencies have stepped up search operations in these regions to flush out any suspects. The Lidwas operation follows a brief lull in firefights between security forces and militants in Jammu and Kashmir in the aftermath of 'Operation Sindoor' when India targeted several terrorist bases in Pakistan occupied Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan in May this year to avenge the Pahalgam carnage. The last encounter from J&K was reported from south Kashmir in May this year.

Op Mahadev: 3 Pak terrorists neutralised in Dachigam forest encounter in Srinagar
Three Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorists from Pakistan were killed in an encounter with security forces in the Harwan area near Dachigam National Park of Srinagar on Monday afternoon. Chinar Corps of the Indian Army posted on its official X account that Operation Mahadev is underway between Indian Army personnel and 'high-value foreign terrorists' in the dense Dachigam forest on the outskirts of Srinagar on Monday. (File photo) Srinagar senior superintendent of police GV Sundeep Chakravarty said that the three terrorists were Pakistani nationals and belonged to the banned Lashkar-e-Toiba. He, however, did not confirm if they had a role in the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 people dead. 'We are identifying them and ascertaining that (their role in the Baisaran meadow), ' he said. Earlier, the Chinar Corps of the Indian Army posted on its official X account that Operation Mahadev is underway between Indian Army personnel and 'high-value foreign terrorists' in the dense Dachigam forest. Along with the Indian Army, teams from the CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir Police are also involved in Operation Mahadev. Latest reports said that the security forces intercepted movement of the terrorists in the upper reaches of Dachigam forest. The bodies of the terrorists are being brought from the encounter spot. While there is no official word of their role in the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, reports said that the terrorists were involved in major attacks on Indian soil. Defence sources said the encounter began at 11am. Drones had also been deployed for surveillance. The operation has been named after the 13,000-ft Mahadev mountain, the highest peak in the Zabarwan range, near the Dachigam National Park and is known for its natural beauty and trekking trails. The encounter took place hours before defence minister Rajnath Singh opened the discussion on Operation Sindoor, India's military response to the Pahalgam terror attack, in the Lok Sabha on Monday. He will be followed by external affairs minister S Jaishankar, BJP vice-president Baijayant Panda, and party MPs Tejaswi Surya, Sanjay Jaiswal, Anurag Thakur, and Kamaljeet Sehrawat. The opposition parties have been demanding a discussion on Operation Sindoor and raising questions over the government's action. Deputy leader of Congress in the Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, will lead the opposition's discussion. He will be aided by other Congress MPs, including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Deepender Hooda, Praneet Shinde, Saptagiri Ulaka, and Bijendra Ola.
