Dr. Greiche Group invests EGP 500m in new glass manufacturing complex
Set to span 25,000 square meters, the facility will expand the company's existing operations in 10th of Ramadan City and is expected to become the most technologically advanced of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region by 2026.
This strategic expansion aligns with national efforts to enhance the local value chain in the automotive industry and reduce dependency on imports. It also reinforces Dr. Greiche Group's position as a regional leader in automotive glass manufacturing, with plans to serve rising demand from Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) across Egypt, the wider region, and international markets.
The new facility is scheduled to begin operations in the fourth quarter of 2026. Once operational, it will significantly strengthen Egypt's supply capabilities in automotive glass, helping to address current shortages and supporting the growth of the country's industrial base.
Chahir Greiche, CEO of Dr. Greiche Group, said the complex will house cutting-edge production lines equipped with smart technologies sourced from Italy, Spain, Switzerland, and China. These systems will enable advanced thermal treatment of automotive glass in line with the highest international quality standards.
Among the innovations being introduced to the region for the first time are digital printing technologies tailored for OEM specifications, as well as spherical and thermal treatment systems capable of handling ultra-thin glass as slim as 2.1 millimeters. Such glass is increasingly used in electric vehicles to enhance energy efficiency and reduce weight.
On the employment front, the project is expected to create over 500 direct jobs for engineers, technicians, and administrative staff, along with around 150 indirect jobs, contributing to national employment goals and local economic development.
'The new plant will double our annual production capacity for rear windshields, reaching one million units,' said Greiche. 'It will enable us to fully meet the needs of global automotive manufacturers, particularly in supplying thermal glass for rear and side windows in buses of all sizes.'
He added that around 50% of the factory's output will serve the domestic market—including OEMs and the aftermarket—while the remaining 50% will be exported to key international markets such as Europe, the United States, and the Gulf region.
The company also plans to produce highly specialized types of automotive glass that have never been manufactured in the MENA region, including thermal roofs for next-generation vehicles and complex rear panels requiring advanced technologies such as solar-control glass. These products align with rising global demand for energy-efficient, eco-friendly transportation solutions.
Greiche emphasized that the facility will play a vital role in supporting Egypt's local automotive assembly and installation market, while also supplying the company's nationwide network of branches and authorized distributors. The project is expected to significantly reduce reliance on imported automotive glass, ease pressure on foreign currency reserves, and strengthen Egypt's self-sufficiency in key industrial sectors.
This investment supports Egypt's broader vision to localize the automotive industry as a pillar of sustainable economic growth. It reflects a commitment to empowering national industries, promoting innovation, and boosting the global competitiveness of Egyptian-made products.

MSMEDA teams up with Franchise International to drive Arab franchising growth
The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (MSMEDA) has partnered with Franchise International—one of Saudi Arabia's leading national franchising institutions—to support and empower Egyptian and Saudi brands, accelerate franchise operations, and prepare local businesses for expansion into regional and international markets. The move comes in line with directives from Egypt's political leadership to strengthen the SME sector, enhance its access to foreign markets, and boost its contribution to the national economy. Basil Rahmy, CEO of MSMEDA, said the cooperation is part of preparations for the Egyptian-Saudi International Franchise Exhibition, scheduled for early 2026. Billed as the largest event of its kind in the Arab world, the exhibition is expected to feature over 300 brands from Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and global markets, with strong participation from government bodies and investment authorities from both countries. Rahmy explained that the initiative aims to launch practical programmes to accelerate franchise operations in Egypt and upgrade local brands to international competitiveness standards. The event will also host the latest edition of the Arab Franchise Award, recognising innovation and excellence across the region's franchising sector. He emphasised the importance of partnering with Franchise International, noting that the initiative aligns with the directives of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly—who chairs MSMEDA's board of directors—to support Egyptian brands, particularly those driven by entrepreneurs, and help them sustain growth and expand internationally. Rahmy added that the exhibition would provide extensive support to the development of franchising in Egypt and Saudi Arabia, creating opportunities for entrepreneurs and boosting entrepreneurship. Abeer Abdullah Julaikh, Chairperson of Franchise International and organiser of the exhibition, welcomed the cooperation with MSMEDA, describing the agency as one of the most influential Arab institutions dedicated to SME development. She said the partnership marks 'a new and qualitative phase' in advancing the Arab franchising sector and strengthening the presence of Saudi and Egyptian brands in both markets, leveraging her institution's long-standing expertise in organising international specialised forums. Both parties underlined that the exhibition will serve as a strategic platform to enhance Arab cooperation in franchising, build strong economic bridges between Arab entrepreneurs, and create investment opportunities in regional and global markets, contributing to sustainable development. Raafat Abbas, General Supervisor of Development Sectors at MSMEDA, highlighted that expanding Egypt's franchise sector is one of the agency's current strategic priorities. This includes improving the business environment, developing the regulatory and legislative framework, and supporting both franchisors and franchisees. He stressed the importance of promoting the export of Egyptian brands by raising the quality and competitiveness of their products and services, capitalising on the growing strength of national brands capable of expansion at home and abroad. Abbas revealed that MSMEDA has already begun implementing a cooperation plan with around 70 brands across various food and service sectors as part of this strategy.

Funding for National Veal Project tops EGP 10bn, reaching over 45,000 beneficiaries
Alaa Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, announced that funding for the National Veal Project has surpassed EGP 10bn, supporting more than 45,000 beneficiaries. The initiative aims to rear and fatten over 522,000 head of cattle, strengthening Egypt's domestic production of meat and dairy. In its latest session, the project's Board of Directors approved EGP 337.832m in new financing for 194 beneficiaries, including small-scale breeders and young graduates, to support 2,089 head of cattle. With this allocation, total project funding now stands at EGP 10.053bn, covering around 45,100 recipients and more than 522,500 heads of cattle, including calves for meat production and high-yield dairy heifers. Farouk said the project contributes to increasing beef and milk supply in local markets while creating new employment opportunities. It also supports the presidential initiative Hayah Karima, launched by President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi to improve rural livelihoods and raise living standards for small farmers and breeders. He stressed its importance in making red meat available at fair and reasonable prices for both producers and consumers, while helping stabilise livestock, meat, and dairy prices. The Minister added that specialised field committees from the Livestock and Poultry Development Sector and the General Authority for Veterinary Services, in cooperation with local agricultural and veterinary directorates, are conducting regular follow-ups to provide veterinary support and address challenges faced by beneficiaries on the ground. Mostafa El-Sayyad, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, confirmed that the Ministry, together with the Agricultural Bank of Egypt and the National Bank of Egypt—the project's main financiers—carries out technical inspections of barns to ensure proper facilities and adequate space before loans are approved. Once livestock is delivered, animals are insured through the Livestock Insurance Fund at discounted rates, providing beneficiaries with additional support. Tarek Suleiman, Head of the Livestock and Poultry Development Sector, noted that participation in the project is open through the nearest agricultural administration office or any branch of the Agricultural Bank of Egypt or the National Bank of Egypt, both of which have a nationwide presence.
