FAHR confirms Eid Al Adha public sector holiday dates for 2025
Ahead of the upcoming Eid Al Adha public holiday, the United Arab Emirates has confirmed the official days off for public sector workers.
The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources in the UAE has officially announced the days off for public sector employees.
Government workers will be off from Dhu Al Hijjah 9 until Dhu Al Hijjah 12, which will be from Thursday June 5 until Sunday June 8.
Official work will resume, once again, on Monday June 9.
The FAHR confirms the holiday dates for public sector workers every year, while the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation confirms dates for workers in the private sector.
The confirmation follows the official findings of the moon-sighting committee on Tuesday May 27. The committee spotted the crescent indicating the start of the Islamic month of Dhu Al Hijjah, which meant that the final month of the Hijri calendar got underway on Wednesday May 28.
Once the start of Dhu Al Hijjah was confirmed, the government was then able to formally declare the four-day public holiday.
The Eid Al Adha break in the UAE begins with Arafat Day on Thursday June 5 and rolls into the Eid Al Adha celebrations held between Friday June 6 and Sunday June 8.
Eid Al Adha is one of several public holidays determined by moon sightings in the United Arab Emirates.
The upcoming four-day long weekend is one of four public holidays in the UAE that rely on the Islamic calendar to determine when it begins.
The lunar calendar is used predominantly by Muslims around the world to determine the dates of religious events and observances.
And this difference impacts how the calendar operates and why Islamic dates shift annually in relation to the Gregorian calendar.
Each Islamic month lasts either 29 or 30 days, depending on the moon's visibility. Consequently, a lunar year is approximately 354 or 355 days long, which is about 10 to 12 days shorter than the solar year used in the Gregorian calendar.
Because of the shorter year, Islamic months drift through the Gregorian calendar.

When exactly is Islamic New Year 2025? Current astronomical predictions indicate that the Islamic New Year dates should fall on Thursday June 26 in the UAE, which would split the Dubai working week in half. Announced as part of the country's official UAE public holiday dates for 2025, the occasion will give private and public sector workers one day off work. The occasion falls on the Hijri date of Muharram 1 and will kick off the year 1447 in the Islamic calendar. The exact date of the holiday depends on whether Dhu Al Hijjah, the 12th and final month in the Islamic calendar, is a 29-day or 30-day month. What is Islamic New Year? The Islamic New Year marks the beginning of every year in the Hijri calendar and falls on the first day of Muharram. Dubai traffic: Journey times cut by 80% on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road
Travel times on one of Dubai's busiest roads are set to be both quicker and shorter, as a result of the latest Dubai traffic project. The Roads and Transport Authority has revealed that it will open new exit and entry points from Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road at the start of June. Allowing smoother exit and entry at Al Warqa neighbourhood, the RTA project will increase road capacity by 5,000 vehicles per hour and reduce travel times by 80 percent. Journey times will be reduced from 20 minutes to just 3.5 minutes, and distances have been cut from 5.7km to 1.5km on the busy route. The opening of the entry and exit point at Al Warqa 1 is the latest project making it easier for residents to get around in the neighbourhood. (Credit: RTA) Recently, the RTA completed traffic improvement works on Street 13 to serve residents and schoolgoers. An internal road development spanning approximately 8km, designed to improve traffic flow and make the road network more efficient. The RTA is also set to upgrade the internal road networks in Al Warqa 3 and 4. These works involve road paving, the construction of pedestrian walkways, pavements, and parking spaces, along with the implementation of cycling tracks exceeding 23 km in total length. (Credit: RTA) Al Warqa 1 will also see its existing roundabouts converted into signalised junctions with smart traffic lights, which is expected to improve traffic flow by up to 30 percent. These changes are in addition to a series of recently completed internal road development works in Al Warqa. These improvements include enhancements around the School of Research Science and near GEMS Royal Dubai School. As a result of these measures, congestion and delays in the school zone were cut by between 35 percent and 50 percent. RTA also added pedestrian walkways, pavements, vehicle access points and a fully integrated lighting system to the Mohammed Bin Rashid housing establishment in Al Warqa 4. These efforts are all part of the transport authority's commitment to improving infrastructure in residential areas as the city continues to grow. Spending Eid Al Adha in Dubai?
