PSG have won the UEFA Super Cup 2025 after they defeat Spurs in the last night's game. Tottenham Hotspur had a great chance to win another trophy this year as they were 2-0 up in the first half. Goals from Van de Ven and Cristian Romero gave Spurs the lead in the game. Under new manager Thomas Frank, Tottenham looked a bit furious and different team. Champions League winner PSG however, didn't hold back and scored back to back goals in the last minutes to take the game to extra time and penalties. Enrique's side won 4-3 in penalties to lift their 5th trophy of their legendary year 2025.
Paris Saint-Germain lifted the UEFA Super Cup 2025 in thrilling fashion last night, edging Tottenham Hotspur 4-3 on penalties after a dramatic 2-2 draw.
Spurs looked set for another piece of silverware this year, racing to a 2-0 lead in the first half through goals from Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero. Under new manager Thomas Frank, the North London side showcased an aggressive, high-energy style that rattled the Champions League winners early on.
However, PSG — chasing their fifth trophy in a historic 2025 campaign — refused to bow out quietly. Luis Enrique's men mounted a late surge, striking twice in the closing stages to force extra time. With neither side able to break the deadlock, the contest went to penalties, where PSG held their nerve to seal a 4-3 victory.
The win crowns a legendary year for PSG, adding the Super Cup to their bulging 2025 trophy cabinet and underlining their dominance in European football.

Savannah TV station apparently made that Michael Penix Jr. typo (yes, THAT one)

On its face, Michael Penix Jr.'s name is pretty straightforward. A seven-letter first name. A five-letter last name. And he's the second of his name, behind his father, Michael Penix Sr. There aren't many consonants and vowels oriented next to each other in a confusing fashion. There are no silent letters or aspects that need special pronunciation. His name sounds, more or less, exactly as it reads. This isn't Chance the Rapper (justifiably) struggling with the names of some European hockey players. Penix's name really shouldn't be tripping anyone up. As an information-delivering organization focused on accuracy above all else, it should be easy not to mess up the full name of a professional athlete like this. However, there's ONE (somewhat) suggestive typo you don't want to make with the Atlanta Falcons' quarterback's name. If you think for longer than five seconds about this, I think you know what I'm talking about, as I can't make a direct reference to it on an ostensible family website. MORE NFL SUMMER: Matthew Stafford is overthinking his back injury like typical 30-something And, uh ... about that. While highlighting Wednesday's Falcons training camp practice in its evening broadcast, Savannah news station WTOC apparently made this unfortunate and way-too-obvious phallic typo with Penix's name in a chyron. Sigh. This is why you proofread your work with a fine comb before making it available for public consumption, dearest readers: (NSFW content below, quite obviously.) Oh. Oh, NO. If it makes the good people at WTOC feel better about this error, this genuinely could've happened to anyone. We're all human. I guess if you say Penix's name fast to yourself, you could likely even hear the misinterpretation of his last name without even realizing you're saying it. Nonetheless, now they've gotta take their lumps. Them's the breaks.

Rodgers 'hopeful' of new signings before Kairat tie

Brendan Rodgers is "hopeful" he will be able to add to his Celtic squad before the Champions League play-off tie with Kairat Almaty. The Scottish Premiership winners host the Kazakh side in Wednesday's first leg, with the return leg six days later. Last term, Celtic reached the knockout phase play-off. So far this summer, Rodgers has signed seven players, with three having featured so far this campaign. "Hopefully would be the answer to that," said Rodgers when asked about potential captures. "We have right up until, I believe it's the day before the game, to change our squad so hopefully that can be the case. We hope that we can improve it and hopefully by then we will do." What can Celtic learn from Aberdeen's Almaty trip? Visit our Celtic page for all the latest news, analysis and fan views Get Celtic news notifications in the BBC Sport app Rodgers pointed out the club have tended to do more business towards the end of transfer windows, with more than two weeks of the summer one still to run. "I'm philosophical about it," he added. "What has gone unnoticed a little bit is that we've made a really good start - two really good wins [against St Mirren and Aberdeen], played well, I know we'll get better. "I can't knock the performances over the two games to get the results. Sometimes that has been clouded a wee bit in all the negativity around the transfers. Hopefully, we can come out of the end of the market in a good place." Celtic defeated another Kazakh side, Astana, over two legs en route to the Champions League group stages in 2018, during Rodgers' first spell as manager in Glasgow. Commenting on the tie with Kairat and the 7,000-trip to Almaty in south-eastern Kazakhstan, Rodgers said: "Everyone would've preferred the closer team and not so much journey but it is what it is. "We've been there before and the first leg we want to make a real push to set a standard in that game on Wednesday and we go there the following week and look to qualify. It's such a huge game, big game and when it comes, we'll be ready for it." Meanwhile, Rodgers is "fairly confident" last season's top scorer Daizen Maeda will still be in his squad when the transfer window closes. The 27-year-old Japan forward, who is yet to score this season, has two years remaining on his contract. "There has been discussions and that going on in the background but I don't have any updates on it," Rodgers said, hinting at a possible new deal. "He's been here four years and progressed every year he's been here and finished off a brilliant season for him. I think what you'll always get from Daizen is 100%."

Erik Lamela retires, joining Sevilla coaching staff

It's been a sad summer with regards to my all-time favorite Tottenham Hotspur players. First Son Heung-Min left the club to finish his career with LAFC in MLS, and now this — according to journalist Cesar Luis Merlo, former Tottenham attacking midfielder Erik Lamela has terminated his contract with AEK Athens and retired. He now plans to join the coaching staff at Sevilla. If you don't like Erik Lamela, you have no soul (or you joined the fandom too late). Now 33, it's clear Erik was nearing the end of his playing days, but it's still sad to see of your favorites hang up his boots. That said, this feels like a real missed opportunity for Tottenham and Thomas Frank. Surely Spurs could use Dark Arts and Shithousery Coach, right? Lamela practically has a PhD in the subjects and I hate the idea of him imparting his skills onto the next generation of Sevilla footballers and not that of his beloved Spurs. There's a whole generation of young Tottenham academy players who could absolutely benefit from learning how to steal water bottles from opposition physios, the best way to step on Cesc Fabregas' hand while pretending it was accidental, the art of slide-tackling opponents inside your own box, rabona goal instruction, and calling Jack Wilshere a p***y. Football is that much poorer without him on the pitch, but at least he's still in the game. And who knows, maybe someday we'll see Tottenham Hotspur Head Coach Erik Lamela someday. Wouldn't THAT be something? Go on, king.
