FAI Cup draw LIVE updates as quarter-final pairings revealed

Irish Daily Mirror17 hours ago
The draw for the FAI Cup quarter-finals takes place this morning, with all eight teams left in the hat dreaming of lifting the trophy at the Aviva Stadium in November.
Defending champions Drogheda edged past Derry City at the Brandywell on penalties in a repeat of last year's final, with hopes of retaining the cup for the first time ever alive and well.
There's plenty of Dublin interest in today's draw, with Shamrock Rovers and St Patrick's Athletic still in the hunt for the cup. Rovers haven't won the title since 2019, while Pats took home the trophy in 2023 when they beat Bohemians in front of over 43,000 people at the Aviva Stadium, the largest ever attendance for an FAI Cup final.
Here are the teams left in the draw:
Drogheda United (beat Derry 3-0 on penalties after 1-1 draw)
Cork City (beat Waterford 2-1)
Galway United (beat Salthill 4-0)
Kerry (beat Cobh Ramblers 2-0)
St Patrick's Athletic (beat Shelbourne 2-0)
Finn Harps (beat Bray 3-1)
Sligo Rovers (beat Bohs 1-0)
Shamrock Rovers (beat Longford Town 2-1)
Oisin Doherty
The FAI Cup is heating up with only eight teams remaining in the competition ahead of this morning's draw for the quarter-final.
There's been a frantic schedule of European and league matches recently, but play was paused over the weekend to make way for the FAI Cup third round.
And there were some significant upsets, with top-tier teams Bohemians, Shelbourne, Derry City and Waterford all bowing out of the renowned competition.
Shels manager Joey O'Brien even slammed his team's performance as the worst they've delivered since he took over from Damien Duff.
However, O'Brien also expressed that he'd prefer it happened then, rather than in this Thursday's high-stakes European rematch with Linfield.
There's a lot at stake as not only is the FAI Cup one of the most coveted trophies in Irish football, it also comes with the added perk of a valuable European ticket for next season. Can I watch it?
Indeed, the draw will be broadcast live on the FAI's YouTube channel. The semi-final draw for the women's FAI Cup will follow immediately after, on the same link.

Ellen Dolan inspires Peamount to comeback win at Dalymount Park

Bohemians' incredible nine-game unbeaten run came to an abrupt halt against an impressive Peamount side who had the immense Ellen Dolan to thank for a come-from-behind win. The All-Island Cup finalists had gotten in front thanks to a well-taken finish from teen sensation Aoibhe Brennan, but the Peas had a teenage star of their own to thank for their first win since May 17. The visitors, narrowly beaten at home to Athlone Town in a bruising battle in the FAI Cup despite being the better team for large spells, but started brightly despite being shorn the services of the suspended Mary Philips. Jess Fitzgerald smashed a 25-yard effort that sailed just over the bar signalling their intent with a couple of minutes played. The hosts began to play their way into the breathless encounter as Hannah Healy became more influential, starting one excellent move down the right that saw Sarah McKevitt whip in a dangerous low cross that was cleared at the pivotal moment by Peas skipper Karen Duggan. A fascinating midfield battle was developing between fellow Irish Under-19 Internationals Brennan and Fitzgerald who wrestled for control in the engine room. There was huge controversy midway through the first half when Dolan bust into the box following some pinball in the area and looked to be caught either side by Lisa Murphy and Katie Lovely, but referee Mark Moynihan waved away the protests. The visitors began to edge the war of attrition and finished the half the stronger. Both Sadhbh Doyle and Dearbhaile Beirne had strikes from distance that narrowly missed the target before a royal rumble-style scramble in the area led to claims from the Peas that the ball crossed the line. Despite being second best for large parts, it was the hosts who broke the deadlock a minute before the break with a clinically incisive move. Brennan was quick to intercept Beirne's pass into the middle, before playing a perfectly weighted one-two with McKevitt on the right. The silky midfielder continued her run into the box, showing great strength to hold off the pressure from Doyle, and finished expertly into the near post with her left foot. The hosts came flying out for the second half, going close to doubling their lead just after the restart with two chances in quick succession. Firstly, Lovely forced Amanda Budden into a brave stop from point blank range before showing cat-like reflexes to deny Alannah McEvoy at the near post. Having been denied a penalty in the first half the Peas were given a chance to equalise fro the spot moments later when Fiona Donnelly was adjudged to handle the ball from a blocked cross that spun up awkwardly. Player of the match Dolan took responsibility but saw her penalty saved low to her left by Rachael Kelly. The 19-year old showed huge character to shake off the miss and not only equalise but put her side ahead with two excellent goals in five minutes. Firstly, the 2024 Young Player of the Year rose highest in the area to glance home Fitzgerald's deep free-kick from the right before picking up the ball deep and rampaging towards the edge of the area and unleashing an unstoppable right-footed effort that flew into the net to flip the game on its head. The hosts looked to the bench for some fresh legs to bring a fresh impact into the attack. Savannah Kane showed tremendous pace to go down the right before being halted by Duggan who stood up big. From the resulting corner a whole host of red and black shirts had attempted to bundle the ball over the line but the green wall stood big. The home side, roared on by an impressive 468 supporters on a chilly Tuesday, tried desperately to build a head of steam but the experience of Peamount told as they took the sting out of any attack. Bohemians: Rachael Kelly; Sarah Power, Lisa Murphy, Roisin McGovern, Katie Lovely (Savannah Kane, 68') ; Fiona Donnelly, Aoibhe Brennan; Leiagh Glennon, Hannah Healy, Sarah McKevitt (Hanna O'Brien, 57'); Alannah McEvoy (Robin Baird, 68') Subs not used: Jenna Willoughby, Abby Rooney, Simone Reilly, Lillian Rusher, Shona Farrelly,, Michelle Muddiman Peamount United: Amanda Budden; Lauryn O'Callaghan (Chloe Moloney, 82'), Abbie Tuthill, Karen Duggan, Dearbhaile Beirne; Aisling Spillane, Jess Fitzgerald, Sadhbh Doyle (Ruby Gallagher, 90+3), Sorcha Melia; Ellen Dolan, Antea Guvo (Karla Moore, 89')

Stephen Bradley's son Josh rings the bell after three years of cancer treatment

Stephen Bradley and his family received a great boost this week as his son Josh got the pleasure of ringing the cancer bell after three years of treatment. Josh Bradley was diagnosed with leukemia back in 2022, and fast forward three years, the Bradley family was all smiles as they posed for photos at the end of treatment bell. Aged just eight years old when handed the shock diagnosis, Josh has battled the disease head-on and was clearly ecstatic as he posed with his family. Shamrock Rovers boss Bradley has been vocal about his son's illness over the past three years and has often shared heartwarming and positive news about Josh's well-being. Yet, on a week where Shamrock Rovers fly to the Azure Islands from a crunch Conference League game, there is no doubting that this week's highlight will be Josh's momentous occasion. Josh warmed the hearts of League of Ireland fans back in 2022 when he was front and centre for Rovers' title victory celebrations and was on hand to lift the trophy. A proud father, Bradley opened up on that special night three years ago. 'It's so emotional looking at him going out with the players. They have given him this night. Making his day has made my day, made our year, considering the year we have had. 'I couldn't be prouder of the group and I am emotional. When he is going out with Ronan and Pico, it's very emotional. I was crying there, I couldn't hold it back 'I spoke to the players and asked them could they give us this night for Josh. There have been some difficult nights, so could they give us this one." Rovers boss Bradley will fly to the Azure Islands with his squad tomorrow for Thursday's crucial Conference League clash against Santa Clare and will no doubt be hoping for a surprise win to put the cherry on top of the cake in a week of good news.
